I prefer the balalaika played like this - by a proper virtuoso like Blinov accompanied by a proper pianist. When balalaikists put on colourful costumes and play for dancers, they take away the instrument's dignity. No one takes it seriously. But as Mr Blinov demonstrates, in the hands of someone who has learned to play it properly, who plays high quality concerts, the balalaika is the most beautiful instrument on the planet.
