  • Im living in Venezuela right now and I am planning on getting a 14ft version with a 9.9, 10 or 15 HP engine. They are all at the maximum weight that the bote can carry according to my brochure. Which engine would you recommend? I will be using the boat moastly in the Morrocoy national park in salt water right next to the atlantic and places where there are mangroves. All the engines are brand new 2 stroke Mercurys.

  • Thanks again Waldo33881,

Mine is an older model, I believe late 90's with a heavy one inch plywood transome that has stayed in good shape. What is your opinion of the newer model transomes that appear to be plastic with an inverted arch shape on the top? I wonder how they compare to the origional plywood ones. I believe that if the plywood one deteriorates, I wiil have to buy the newer model as a replacement.

  • @Waldo33881 The plastic transom is pretty stong, even though it looks like the same material as the benches. It would definitely be lighter than plywood. Because of the arches, it is harder to mount an electric motor alongside the gas

  • Thanks Waldo33881. I was mostly concerned about the weight on the transom, and if it would be too heavy. Do you have any thoughts about that?

  • @Waldo33881 - On the 8-12ft portabotes, they list the max motor weight as 55lb which is about what the 5hp nissan weights. It is precisely because the transome can only take so much weight and also power. The 14ft portable may be beefier and also has aluminum wing braces.

  • Do you think a 5HP Nissan 4 stroke is too heavy for a 10ft porta bote?

  • @Waldo33881 That is the max weight for an outboard that you can go with the portabotes 8ft-12ft. That said, depends on if you need the power. I personally would get a 3.5HP Nissan which is 14lb lighter.

  • @Waldo33881 I just remembered that my buddy was running a 6hp Nissan on his 12 footer. The 12ft has the same transom as the 10 footer so you will definitely be fine.

  • what a rip off

  • do you carry the motor off when you get back to shore.

I want to get one... i live rite near the pier and i dont need a trailer to hitch it back anywhere . will i be able to carry the motor off and then unfold the boat.

  • awesome video. I've got a Nissan 9.8 with the long shaft for my sailboat. nice outboard

  • Great video and music mishmosh ! (which artist by the way) Are you still satisfied about your set ? I've got the 12 foot with Yamaha 6 hp 4 stroke 2005. I ride the channels in the Netherlands with it. It's fun every time !

  • Nice video ^^ Music name?

  • do you know how fast a 2 stroke 9.8 nissan would go on a 10 foot zodiac???

  • SWEET!!! i am gettin mine soon. i and doing a test drive with a PB rep next thursday.. this boat is the greatest invention ever! portable with any car! sturdy, durable. i live in renton wa and have family in Chelan! good buy trailer!

ps. my father flipped his 12ft aluminum boat with my brother in it at Lake Washington. They swam back to shore with my brother's hands around my dad's neck at 12am! he claims he was reaching for a bobber. im buying him one too!

  • The Nissan seems pretty quiet. Was it running at full bore during the video? I could hear the laughter above the motor's noise.

  • What a gorgeous lake!!! Porta Botes are great boats and so are the Nissans!

  • What speeds are you getting with this setup?

  • @stjernefodt With the 2 of us and equipment, we hit 16mph

  • Nice Video :)

Im planning to get one for saltwater fishing...are you happy with the 14 inch ?

    thanks!

  • The 14ft Porta-Bote (Exxtreme) is a great boat. You will love it. Hopefully the waves are huge where you plan to use it.
