  • how come there isn't any more World's Fair in any state and i wish i was born doing the 1930's

  • Strange to see the way we used to be, everything new and clean, pride in our industries (who've all since outsourced most of their labor) . We now have crumbling infrastructure and an overwhelming grip of pessimism have taken the country. It really is heartbreaking. That being said, even in current times; I would much rather be the US of 2012 than the Germany of 1939.

  • You can still go and see the fair, they kept it exactly how it was back then , the cars and all.

  • @muppetchile , yes its amazing. Those dancers are rather impressive.

  • If you really think about it. As a society...we've really devolved since then.

  • @jumpingjackjill Opps, I misread your post. I thought u said if ur grandad was born in 1900 and was 90 now, not if you were in 1900.

  • @jumpingjackjill Yes because the Civil war took place in 1900...

  • I remember my dad talking about the 1939 World's Fair.

He even had some things from it.

Thank you for posting this film.

If my dad was alive, he would have loved seeing it.

By the way, this is an excellent film.

Like TomAlton said, it is the finest I have seen.

  • The '39 New York Fair has the reputation of being the finest in history. No more World's Fairs now; everyone HATES each other.

  • @edwardjames50 are you and the people who liked your status retarded? World fairs still occurs, the 2010 took place in Shanghai China

  • @txmike9i5 ~ I can't speak for anyone else, including you, bit I am not retarded. Sorry if I hadn't heard about the Shanghai event; it certainly wasn't heavily publicized. Now let me ask you something. Were you brought up by siblings who copulated, which would explain your unprovoked rudeness?

  • @txmike9i5 ~ I can't speak for anyone else, including you, but I am not retarded. Sorry if I offended your delicate sensibilities by not having heard about the Shanghai event; it certainly wasn't heavily publicized. Now let me ask you something. Were you brought up by siblings who copulated, which would explain your unprovoked rudeness?

  • @edwardjames50 I checked out txmike9i5 profile and he has nothing but people hating him because of his rudeness. We sometimes call these people Trolls. They go from video to video and deliberately start confrontations. Your best bet is to ignore him.

  • @edwardjames50 Exactly. I often wonder the same thing. Why don't we have world's fairs or world exhibitions anymore? Clearly we need it now more than ever!

  • This was produced for 16mm "home movie" projectors by Official Films, one of the leasing distributors of "home movie entertainment" at the time {old cartoons and live-action shorts, travelogues, "sportsreels", highlights of famous feature films, etc.}. There were TWO versions of this one- silent [with intertitles] and sound. Occasionally, a subject of this magnitude demanded color film- but you paid extra for it.

  • Seems like a modern fair and nice video, but just 73 years earlier slavery and the Civil War was still in effect. People still living then were actually still around to remember it. Those in there 80s and 90s then probably had grandparents who were born when George Washington was still alive. Can you see how times links itself together???

  • Love it.

A fair that grows in greatness.

Thank you for sharing this video with us.

  • But after 04 it didn't feel so much as a Worlds Fair type thing as much just a big vacation spot for the whole family. So to say that we don't really have good world fair since Japan in the late 60's or if you consider Disney World's EPCOT like me , then I would say since 2006.

  • expo 67.

Best worlds fair in the history of the world.

  • wow, this is really incredible. too bad that they tore it down after they finished with the fair. i wonder what happened to all the statues and things, does anyone know? i went to the new york 1960 s world fair on the same location. queens meadow flushing meadow park. skating rink and big globe from the 60s fair was still there. think it was in same spot as the ball and needle of the 30s. not sure though.this also pre ww2 which too is amazing. where did the vid come from?

  • Some of the buildings from the 1939 and the 1964 N.Y. Worlds Fair are still standing in Flushing Meadow Park, Queens. The Unisphere was recently refurbished and is a popular backdrop for professional amateur photo shoots.

  • I was at the 64 WF when I was a young kid. There are videos on Youtube showing then and now videos of the Fair grounds.

  • this is 1939? I didn't know they had color films of such quality back then. I mean, black & white went on until the 60s and color film was there all that time at our disposal? Why didn't we use it? We would get a crispier view of the past if pictures were always in color.

  • They were, but mostly only the original footage. When they started to broadcast television, the footage was in color but the screens displaying it were just b&w

  • I betcha they had color for a while in the 30's but it was only for speceal use like anything else that is new.

The world fair was supose to bring out the new stuff that might take place later on in that future. Believe or not EPCOT at Disney world is a living Worlds fair that is also a theme park at the same time.

  • because color film was a luxury upto after WWII

  • they really should bring back to the US, looking at my history books and seeing pictures of one of the World Fairs i say 'damn i wish i could have been there, it look like fun" but then again it also depends on public interest which the last one here, didn't have

  • Simply amazing! The quality of the film and the footage is breathtaking. Just incredible!

  • This film of the 1939 fair is the finest I have seen. The night time fountain show is beyond striking.

  • Wonderful footage, thanks so much for sharing these excellent memories, fascinating !

  • Thanks for posting this. What a treasure!
