@sixgunsymphony I disagree, some people say he is awful singing songs becuase they loved Charlie's voice, though is a great singer but as mentioned in the wrong band, I think James did great vocals on Images And Words: Live In Tokyo and Live At The Marquee but I have to say this live version is the heaviest I've heard, I don't like this because of the vocals, I like it for the heavy sounds John has, I think his technician did a great job for his guitars

It is a basic thing in any instrument that anyone can play, Guitarists have to remember all the notes that they must play in the song, any drum player must remember all the beats the play in each part of the song... the singer must remember all the words he must sing in the song. It really does not differ much from playing some other instrument and you really dont need a special memory to remember all that :P

Actually, I have the Dream Theater book that came out a couple years ago. I hate to break this to you, but they admitted that they re-recorded James' vocals on the Marquee album. I was disappointed to read that.

It's just the sound I prefer. There is another bootleg called "killing hand live 92" on youtube that comes from the home sweet home bootleg and it isn't edited and sounds awesome, with some voice cracking tho...

Well, in fact James wrote just a few songs, normaly Petrucci and Portnoy do that, but well he didn't sing it at the first time, but it aren't so hard to learn, the following Dream Theater songs are a little harder, than these in that album.
