Beautiful car but outclassed in it's day by Lotus, Cooper and BRM. By this time the classic front engine, rear drive configuration was obsolete. Enzo was obsessed by engines and ignored the chassis which often left his cars uncompetative. The 246 engine was detuned and wet sumped to be used in later road cars.
Imagine that Lotus Exige after 40 years its 890 kg and 225 hp... and 0-100 beats everything..!! Look again this car and imagine the meaning of FERRARI when before 41 years make a car half weight of a welterweight 2011 lotus exige with 40 hp more..!!
@Ultra13Violence I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but nowadays F1 cars weight as little as 600 kg - with 700bhp powers. Those F1s were wickedly awesome, the 246 "Dino" is one of my favourite cars ever made, but you cannot compare it with a roadgoing car like the Exige.

Saw this car many many years ago at either silverstone or donnington. i'm talking7/8 years now. Still i remember the moment they booted it up and staring at the 12 brass carbs on the engine as the mechanic pulled the throttle cable :D ahhh... :D
What goes around comes around (esp on a race track ;-)).
Look at cars like the PT Cruiser or Dodge Charger. Old styles made new again. Detroit seems to have gotten that we (and they) like those old designs, so why not incorporate them again.
Now I'm waiting for big sedans to come back. And I mean BIG, like Oldsmobiles circa 1960.
and this is why many people loathe modern cars. the demand is to have room (for groceries) and drive big and all that crap when really all you need is a one seater, inline 6 cylinder, four wheels, a six speed transmission, a suspension and anything in between to get the car to move smoothly, when you truely have a car groceries or kids should never come in mind because then your left with a family mini van...but thats just me
Computers have largely ruined cars in my opinion. If they allowed the driver to monitor systems and make adjustments on the fly, then I'd say computers in cars made sense, but instead, they do everything behind the scenes and you only notice them when something goes wrong, and when that happens it's usually huge, like your engine won't start something like that.
Gimme a carburetor, a 5-6 speed, and a steering wheel.
If you look closely, you will see that this car is not a true Dino 246. It has a 12-cylinder motor fitted, so it is either the car specially built with a 3-litre Tasman Formula motor for New Zealander, Pat Hoare, or a later replica of it. The original Matchbox model of the Dino 246 also incorrectly featured the 12-cylinder motor, which gave us Kiwis a quiet chuckle. Anyway, nothing can beat the sound of a 12 cylinder Ferrari in full song.
They'd do perfectly well, and on most occasions (if not all) beat the drivers of this era. It's simply a case of nowadays drivers are highly fit athletes that work 12hr days on improving their driving techniques, skills etc. They learn the ins and outs of car dynamics, how the car works etc.
The drivers of the 50's were brilliant drivers, but they were just guys having fun on weekends. It's a bit like us being smarter then people in the 1200's. They were still brilliant... brilliant drivers.
i saw it yesterday have a couple of runs up shelsley walsh hill climb...glorious round in the valley, and one of the best lookin grand prix cars ever too!

Wow, a Dino with six double-carburetors?
Definitely V12. The engine is way too long for a Dino V6.

I wonder how long some of our current "stars," both in America and Europe, would last in these things.
