Just gotta say, this was SUPER HELPFUL!!!

I just finished using that kind of styrofoam for sculpture in art class and it is soooo easy to carve, dense enough to be sturdy, and lightweight all in one! :D

It looks really bulky...I think using a wood frame and perhaps gluing a ever so thin layer of styrofoam with a machet overcoat would be a better idea...

@fastweirdo Momo: the foam can come in different thicknesses. Her's is two inches and the foam I used was a two half inch foam pieces glued together with bonding glue.

and her key blade is really sturdy...so to each his own.

Momo-chan: it can depend on where you are. Isa (girl in video) has foam 2 inches thick and about 4 ft x 16ft(?), but my foam was only 1/2 inch thick and teh rest of the measurements are the same.

if the foam you buy is thin like mine....you would have to glue pieces together.

Momo-chan: modgepodge can have different drying surfaces lik it can dry with a papery surface for better painting surface and watered down glue tends to have a more glossy surface....which can be difficult to paint on(have the paint stay and not chip).

you can use balsa or cedar wood....its harder to carve but it is steardier...though you would have to get it cleared but the convention security.

Wow very nice! I felt the pain when it came to sanding down the thick blue foam. I use that stuff for everything from RC planes to costumes. I sent many many hours sanding..lol

Great video except the end. I had volume turned way up because i couldn't hear what you was saying. Then at the end at the finished Blade the music blasted and I about feel out my chair! lol

if your in england and you want the material just go to B&Q and ask them where there foam is they'll tell you to go to the back of the store or something if you're near the cheackout then go to where they said and there's a bunch of the stuff in like a rack. Choose the one that is brand name : Kingspan. It has a silver cover and a picture of a lion with a crown in green

Momo-chan: it comes pretty long....I frogot how long it was but she had to get it cut into four equal pieces just to gfet it in her car....and I forgot the name but its light blue....thats a big give away

if you go to a homedepot or other hardware store you can get peices of polystyrene insolation foam. their pink coloured and they are pretty much the same. but these are a bit more expensive but they're the only ones i could find in canada that were somewhat the same. plus they come in a whole lot of different sizes. the best size would probably be 1.5 x 24 x 96 inches. it's only about 20$ but you get a lot less.

for the kingdom key all you need to make out of styrofoam is the guard for the rest of it just use an old rake stick and paint and get some wood to create th key part of it
