did anyone but me notice.....THEY DIDN'T DO IT!! they didn't make it across the whole sahara!
somewhere in Egypt they started walking bc of charlies foot. he went on ahead, the other two caught up, and then they walked the rest of the way! the mission was to RUN across the sahara. not run MOST of the sahara and then walk the finish.
@ummmmmmmidontknow Who the hell cares if they walked to the finish? They MADE IT. They did the whole trajectory and LIVED. Instead of being critical about the fact that they were in pain near the finish, see that they did what nobody else did, one way or another. You try to run the Sahara without walking once. I'm amazed they ran the whole way except for the end to begin with. When you're in pain and have been running for 111 days, doing 70 KM A DAY, you'd want to walk too. Don't be so critical
@Videogamefangirl Obviously it was a great feat that not many people could do. I'm just saying, in the beginning they made it very clear that the ultimate goal was to run the length of the sahara. If their original goal was to walk/run the sahara it wouldnt have been quite as intriguing an ambition. And from a cinematic perspective, the fact that they walked the very end made it seem anticlimactic to me.
@ummmmmmmidontknow I think you're missing the point. Charlie was hurt and limping. Ray got this injury that they said if he kept running, it would worsen. Kevin was damn exhausted. They were running for 111 days, 70 KM a day. Unless you've run that distance yourself, you wouldn't know just how long of a distance that actually is. Keep in mind that this is a documentary, not a movie. If this was a movie and WANTED to make it dramatic, they would have ran.
@ummmmmmmidontknow But at that point you have to think of what they were thinking. They were tired and in pain. And who knows? They may have walked at some points too and we never noticed because the film didn't show us.
Either way, this isn't Hollywood. The point of the film was to show what REALLY happened. Not to entertain people. I repeat, documentary. What's done is done, they still ran across the ENTIRE Sahara. Try to have the physical and mental capacity to do that...
@Videogamefangirl The point of the film was to show three guys run across the entire Sahara. That didn't happen so I was disappointed. You seem like you're making excuses for them. Of course they were tired and in pain. I was hoping they would overcome this and reach their original goal. But they didnt.
Dont get me wrong I'm thoroughly impressed and amazed by what they did, but the truth is they did not run across the entire Sahara.
@ummmmmmmidontknow They did cross the entire damn Sahara. By the time they were walking they were in the city of Cairo. The point is, they overcame much more than expected. They were plagued by sickness and fatigue that could easily kill them of dehydration. I'm trying to sympathize and be realistic. If you didn't listen to the movie at all, rehear again their personal experiences and opinions throughout the movie. You could see it coming a mile away that they were going to stop at some point.
@Videogamefangirl Cairo is in the Sahara. The desert stretches all the way to the Red Sea. They did not run to the red sea. Hence my disappointment. I'm not sure how many ways i can say this.
@ummmmmmmidontknow And what I'm trying to say is that you are being unreasonable. I see no reason to be disappointed. This movie was inspiring, and real-life situations like these are easier said than done. I'm not sure how many ways I can say this either. So I'm just going to leave it there.
I just watched this on netflix and I have to say that, by the end, I thought charlie engle was an asshole. I understood his desire to achieve this quest but for him to expect so many to commit to a project with no end date was unrealistic of him.
When his treatment of the team members who had supported him, even past the time they had promised to stay, turned rude & inconsiderate that's when he became an asshole. Funny, you would think he'd want the film to reflect better of him.
@feenixrising10 If you check out the sequel for Running America you will see a wiser and much more humble Charlie Engle--He definitely gets his come uppance
I agree, I felt he was unfair to the other guys and kinda let them astray towards the end when he said he was going to walk, and then miraculously was able to run slowly again.
Glad I watched it but left me feeling sad for the other two guys!
Charlie engle is in trouble (the leader of the pack). He was caught up in a financial issue where he has to serve time. add charlie on his facebook for updates so you can write him while hes serving his time. support charlie if you truly are inspired!!!
Ray's story resonates with me as I only took up running three years ago and used to smoke 20 cigs a day. I ran 50 marathons in 56 days this year and Ray was a huge inspiration to me, one of the nicest blokes your likely to meet as well
Ray is sooooooooo nice! He came to my school ( along with the other man from the arctic trip) and answered our questions. At the moment, ray is in siberia running around Lake Bikal, and my school is luck to have conversations with him over something like skype.
We're a team? Engle bossing everybody around, no wonder Kev wanted to bail, the doc & Dale took some days off to get a break from Engle and Webster actually left, couldnt stand him anymore. In the end Engle tried to finish the thing by himself, what a joke. Congrats to Ray & Kev.
i think the asian guy had the hardest time...not with the physical part but with the loneliness....imagine being with two other guys who can talk to eachother but you cant understand them...
I just watched this show and what an experience! I will never forget this show and these awesome courageous men. At the end I felt like I was with them and I cried- I felt their euphoria, what a journey. Definitely a must see!
I hope to do something like this some day in a nicer climate but higher mileage. My Personal Record is 154 miles in 5 days, which resulted in a stress fracture and a shin splint.
