maybe this wouldn't work for severe acne, but I treated my teen daughter's chin/cheek/forehead acne with natural remedies. pears glycerin soap, thayers rose witch hazel, & a touch of both olive & rosehip oils to moisturize. along with a weekly home-use 30% lactic acid treatment & a very light physical exfoliation 2-3 days following this has totally cleared her skin & even the scars that were starting to mark her face.

i went to the skin doctor a few year ago and they told me that i need a skin peel cause i have to much dead skin and the products won't work since the dead skin was acting as a blocker, but i couldn't afford one at the time. Even Now after i have tried other products i don't see much of an improvement and i do see dark dirt that comes off under my finger nails when i touch my face . what can i do about the dead skin? Proactive, Clearasil, Clean & Clear, Burt's Bees, AcneFree, Benzoil Peroxide, Tazorac, Differin and even antibiotics didn't work for me for almost 2 years.

I recently cut out all sugar, dairy and refined flours from my diet. I spray my face with Apple Cider Vinegar after cleansing it with an all-natural cleanser and take probiotics. My skin has cleared about 80% and feels much better. If these things don't work for you try changing your diet.

My toner and cleanser have salicylic acid (both clinique), but my moisturizer does not. I cannot use benzol peroxide because it's too harsh for my skin. My acne is mild but the acne I do have will not go away. Do you think my skin regimen needs to be changed?

Hey Dr. Neal, I've been told that applying toothpaste and rubbing alcohol on a blemish or pimples is supposed to significantly reduce the size and swelling of it. Would you recommend using this method? I've used it on my pimples, but for some bizarre reason, I ended up having these dark spots or scars where the pimples used to be. I'm not really sure if I should discontinue this method or stick with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@loveNlipgloss I use a mild toner after I cleanse and it removes excess oil off my face and is good just to make sure that there is nothing that will clog my pores. Use one for dry skin because it won't irritate your skin. I use the Boots Organics Rosewater toner (available at Target).

people can clean their own pores out harmlessly with beta hydroxy acid (BHA) by using something with salicylic acid in it. This works because BHA, unlike AHA, is lipid soluble. You mention it, which is great, but what really helps is to get a BHA solution you can use all over (liberally on) the affected area and not just on a spot. AHA can't clean out pores (because its not lipid soluble) but BHA can. Both types of hydroxies are great exfoliators and help in their own ways.

I have acne, which is pretty mean. I use two topicals(morning and night) and an antibiotic I drink with water morning and night. I'm a healthy person who exercises daily and I clean my face with cleansers. I use moisturizers after a shower too. But, my acne doesn't seem to be going away! I have little stress in my life and I'm a carefree person, but I don't want to go on accutane. Can anyone give me any help?

what about using moisturizer? its important to use it because if you just keep washing your face your stripping it from its natural oils causing it to produce more and more making it even oilier. you also need to moisturize!

Using products, whether Proactive or other brands in any combination as discussed in this episode, is acceptable as long as it's working for you. Also make sure that you are using the products that are mentioned in the different categories in the video that are appropriate for your type of acne.

And *Bonus tip!* if you get acne on one side of your face, it could be your cell phone! Just remember to clean your cell hone to keep from transferring oils from your face, to your phone, and back to your face :D
