  • Dianno is the KING ..... Bruce is Gay !!!!!

  • i was lucky enough to be at this gig.and the night after too the saturday.played space invaders with lemmy and he bought me a pint.il never forget those days.stayed in london with a mate who went to schol with dianno we were guestlisted both bnights.went to some club after lol and played drinking agmes with maiden.they were normal guys then and still are as far as i can see.janet street porter was getting in the way doing interviews in the marquee lol.never new i was part of history.so lucky.

  • I can watch this everyday and not get tired of it, its so much better than the bullshit you find in MTV and VH1.

  • I think Neil Kay is talking through his ass, if punk hadn't have come along none of these NWOBHM bands would have existed and certainly thrash metal and all the other sub-genres would never have been known. And I have never heard the term 'high energy rock' in my life.

  • wtf? Dave Murray hasn't changed a bit!

  • fuck off wheres bruce dickinson when you need him?

  • Notice the lack of \m/ signs in the crowd? It hadn't been made universal by Dio yet.

  • the kid at 4:50 looks like Jus Oborn

  • Side fact.. I love the fact the theme song from this show was from John fox off his solo metamatic album.

  • I miss "that" Britain just like I miss "new" bands like that as I miss the Marquee on Wardour St. and all of those fantastic scruffy venues drenched with rock , beer and sweat; it was all about fun and good music. This is a great documentary that new generations should watch to learn and understand.

  • neal kay says he hates the term heavy metal yet he wears the shirt plus nowadays everyband on the radio classes themself as rock or pop punk so heavy metal is the term to use if u wanna distinguish between commercial shit or real music

  • hhewewhe nice music from the opening

  • The Brits ruled my country for 200 years :p

    Know i kinda understand why...

  • I WANNA BE BRITISH

  • @papulk: Stop seeking dental care.

  • @psychomatthias You think your funny with that comment? you have no idea what your talking about and I'm not about to enlighten you. However I do invite you to come over to England and voice that bullshit and see what happens.

  • @psychomatthias and moan a lot

  • "London Minorities Unit" WTF? LOL sounds like the name of a punk band

  • I knew straight away it was Dave Murray playing lead when I heard those out-of-tune bends

  • @papulk - Honestly, I'm British and it's over rated.... Believe me!

  • steve looks like he hasnt aged a bit

  • phantom of the opera!

  • *********************************

  • hey guys where is the part when the band kill eddy onstage?????

  • that guy at 6:36 says " i despise the term heavy metal" and yet look at his shirt. LOL

  • it should definately be on fail blog

  • That DJ guy is soo right.

  • Nice!

  • awesome footage of steve harris

  • This One was really the show how Heavy Metal Shut be how Iron Maiden kick ASS to every band from Europe to America !!!!!!!!!!!! Never can be performed from any band..!! even Maidens !!!!

  • what the fuck are you talking about, you don't make any sense at all

  • The energy of the band you asshole ,and you want tell can some heavy metal band play same???@kaboom6899

  • @OPICOVAL you've had a year to respond, and you still can't fucking write english!

  • the guy from the record store says he hates the term heavy metal... yet his t-shirt says HEAVY METAL SOUNDHOUSE

  • @joshlockwood69 He's promoting his club.

  • @joshlockwood69 Neil's just a deliberately contradictory - he's a friend of my uncle's, and he's the same now; a nice guy really, having had a beer or two with him, but he's remarkably good at making you confused by everything he says!

  • This is still one of my favorite live shows of Maiden. Does anyone know if this performance of Phantom of the Opera exists on a cd at all?

  • Paul was a little prince that time, don´t you think??

  • Btw, there was a tv programme a while ago called "In Bed With MeDinner", that made fun of old tv clips.

There is an episode that mocks this Danny Baker documentary, if you search for Medinner s3 ep5, you'll find it.

  • I saw this and it's more proof that metal will never get respect from the sports-obsessed mainstream. I can laugh at aspects of my chosen sub-culture that deserve to be clowned, but I hate it when outsiders do it. However, unfortunately for them, metal will keep on keeping on and I will keep on listening.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean about ppl who know very little about heavy metal making fun of it. Though today, it is more accepted than it used to be, though it will always be regarded as juvenille by music snobs.

  • True.

  • i like sports, and i like Heavy Metal. hell, i like every type of music besides Death Metal. too much screaming 4 me personally.

  • at 4:50 that dude looks EXACTLY like jus oborn, its a fuckin trip.

  • ''i hate the term heavy metal''

anyone else see his shirt? :P

  • It made me laugh.

  • ahaha yeah, same here!

  • more than that...he DESPISES it!

Neil Kay's hilarious intellectualising & reference to Judy Garland reminds me of the Colin Grigson character played by Rik Mayall in the heavy metal parody "Bad News Tour"

  • I love these seemingly innocent days of music... I hate the corporatisation of venues that we have now

  • The best music on the whole show was the LWT theme tune at the beginning.I want to hear the Thames TV tune next :)

  • That guy saying that heavy metal is an American term... wtf?

    Did he miss Black Sabbath?!

Sure, Steppenwulf USED the term heavy metal. But it was to describe motorbikes/cars etc. Not the music.

  • just cause sabbath is english doesnt mean the slang couldnt have started here, blue cheers vincebus eruptum is said to be the first heavy metal album, and the first time the term was used in print was an article about humble pie.

  • this is on the early days dvd. its some good footage!

  • NWOBHM is most wonderful thing happened to heavy metal, followed by the thrash metal scene!

  • YEAH FUCK POSERS

  • @evilmaniac999 folowed by death metal then, black metal and then it got messed up with metalcore......FUCK!!!!

  • Wow thanks for posting this psychomatthias !!Michaël from France.

  • What's with the closeups of Dianno's face?

That photog must of had a crush, ha, ha! I mean he could've at least shown him from a reasonable distance like the rest of the band, so the viewer feels like he/she's in the audience as opposed to watching a frikkin bj on a mike.

  • did he say deep purple spin offs whitesnake

  • David Coverdale sang for Deep Purple before forming Whitesnake, but hopefully you already knew that.

  • Hey the gentlemen who is talking right now worked with Mark Perry i think on his Punk Fanzine Sniffin Glue?? Danny something is his name i think

  • Yep, the same Danny Baker.

  • Iron Maiden has always been great, but i think Bruce really added what dianno could not

  • Good lord - Danny Baker!

I used to watch 20th Century Box, and I haven't heard the theme tune since around 1981. I didn't know it was a Janet Street-Porter show. I've never been sure about her, but I have to say she's been behind some brilliant television.

Anyway, it was a treat to see this - thank you.

  • MAIDENHEAD OR DEAD!

  • samson, tygers of pan tang and iron maiden the best of the nwobhm!!!!

  • don't forget diamond head, tank and angel witch, dude!

  • i loved for years this performance when theyre playing phantom of the opera.hell yea.i love when those kids are just banging their heads in the audience.then i love that cute lady that you can see in 4:43.she was problably like 20 or 21.now shes gotta be like 48 or something .heheh cute face.
