I've been painting (or trying to) with Photoshop for about five months, and just learned how to use the eyedropper tool and adjust Opacity/Flow with hotkeys (don't judge me lol.) I can't thank you enough for introducing me to the basics I've been looking to learn. Such a practical and essential tutorial for beginners.
I love this! Whenever I do a painting I end up with like, 80 layers, and I always end up thinking it looks very "Photoshop" instead of a painting. Y'know, always feels like I rely on the tools too much. This is wonderfully helpful though, thank you!
@karl6615 you use the alt key while using the paintbrush. while you hold down the alt key and click, it'll change the color you're using to w/e color you clicked on.
thank you SO much for making a video that actually explains how to do digital painting instead of just showing off skills, like what most so-called tutorials here do...
Im having trouble selecting colours off the keyboard . If im using a wacom bamboo i cant seem to select colours that easily with the pen so doing it via keyboard would be great :D
Thank you so much! So simple, yet so informing. Ive been looking for the that answer to getting realistic brush strokes in PS and Ive had alot of difficulty finding it until now! :D Thank you so much!
Thank You so much!!! Attended a lot of Photoshop workshops so far and it was all about manipulating photos, but I need to draw! So confusing all the buttons and functions. Now I feel motivated again! Thank You so much!
But hold on: I didn´t get Your website right, would be interested in that too. Can You tell me again?
I really love you tutorials, they're very helpful, and you actually walk through your process unlike most people that just expect a video of a speed paint to teach anything.
What version of photoshop are you useing? and would you reccomend it for a first time user? if not what program should i use if i wanted to do types of artwork just like this video? if anyone could help out it would be muchly appreciated. thanks !
I don't have Photoshop yet, but I have found myself feeling overwhelmed by all the digital painting tutorials on YouTube. Yours is much better for a beginner like me. Thanks so much!
@JenJW -- Oh, you've just got to get it! :) And in case you don't know about these, try out these free programs until you do get PS: GIMP, MyPaint, and Paint.NET. These aren't nearly as robust and satisfying (in my opinion) as Photoshop, but they're great programs, full of features, and each have their own feel to them. I use them instead of Photoshop sometimes, just to mix things up a mix, which only makes me appreciate each of them in their own right more. I simply LOVE MyPaint.
thank you so much for this! i'd watch a speedpainting, try some of my own and get very disheartened that nothing ever blended like their's, despite the brush opacity. now i know it was the flow tool! thanks again
Sure it was simple, but it proved to be the most informative and beneficial tutorial I've seen on the subject. Most folks post a "Watch me does!" as a tutorial. Thanks for going right down to "This is how I does!" So thanks again.
Hi Peter, Thanks for this and bless you! really at least your explaining everything clearly and are speaking as good as any of the professional instructors do.
Wow, I really wish that I had watched this before I started painting my scanned drawing! This makes so much sense! And flow! Seriously, flow looks awesome. Thanks for the tips on the shortcuts, that really helps, too. Now I have to go back to my drawing and start redoing the whole thing...
I think i've watched this about 7 times now and i still don't understand how when you begin to shade the strokes become smaller even though the brush size remains the same size
@Malmsteen708 he's probably using a drawing tablet, like those from Wacom, that have pen-pressure settings for size and opacity and whatnot. Basically the lighter you press the pen on the tablet the smaller the shade, and the harder you press the bigger and closer the shade'll be to your selected size. Then add in your opacity settings and flow settings that he discussed and you're ready for shading.
well i need to know something. How can i change size of my brush on hotkeys? Like at 1:43 !!? Pls help me for that and i wanna know how can i change colors on hotkeys without do not open color bar
@doodlezraven changing the brush size is the square brackets (to the right of P, just to clarify) as far as changing colours with keys the only keys i know are 'D' sets it to the default colours, so white and black and 'X' flips the foreground and background colours.
i'm working with 300 dpi for my comic . it seems pretty high and good quality, but you say it is only the minimum you should use? if I wanted to print my 300 dpi painting , would it look like crap?
You wouldn't believe how much this helped me. I just got a tablet, and I wanted to start painting like this, but I couldn't figure out how to do all that fading jazz and whatnot. Now I know. And now I also know that you can hold alt to select colors. Thank you so much.
Thanks to u. i was able to understand how they paint it smooth and i enjoyed painting my work. Last time i remember. I keep using BURN tool and its so frustrating.
Its worth buying a tablet. Usually people go for a Wacom Tablet. Even though i have one i still sometimes use my touch pad on my laptop depending on what im doing.
There was absolutely no point scanning that image. All you have done is create a globe, as good as it is the scanned image served no purpose whatsoever.
Actually it served the purpose of demonstrating the work flow a photoshop painter would go through if he/she were to upload a physical drawing. It doesn't matter how basic of a drawing it is. Its just to show solely the idea of uploading an image. He does say "despite its total lack of definition".
Hey cheers for posting a great tutorial, One I can understand... not just a demonstration or a speed painting. Very good and well done, actually learned a lot from this
