They have a new run video on Chevy Corvette site and Mr. Mero does not back off as much (not that I would do any different in real life) and gets the car up to 183mph. Yes there is a hill but that is not the reason for not hitting higher speeds. Time is 7:19, tires used is Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Car stock.
Well when I look at the ZR1 video it seems he does, I guess we could ask Mr. Mero. But I still do think that the GTR is great too, especially that tranny it has!! The driver keeps both hands on the wheel and probably can do left foot braking on the corners that he down shifts on just like a F1 car; which is awesome :)
The GTR is a great car, but if you watch the ZR1 video you will notice that the driver backs off the on the straight only topping at 176mph. On the straight he could be close to 200mph with the 638hp. Jim Mero is a great driver but driving cars at high speed is dangerous and that is always in the mind of drivers. 7:26 is a good run for a stock ZR1 but it is not the best run Mr. Mero could of make. What I am saying is that the GTR was driven harder than the Corvette.

@bowtiehero1 if u looked at the Official lap times you'll see that the GTR did beat the ZR1 lap time. The GTR was stock and the track was slightly wet. it was the new 2011 GTR. I can admit the 09 gtr had some problems

The GT-R has a computer running it's AWD system that would make NASA proud. I think it is one of the best production cars for transferring power from the motor to the asphalt. It is very balanced overall, fast through the curves and being able to pull well in the straights. The Vette does it in a different style. More easy through the corners to keep the rear under control and using its angry torque band and HP to make up that lost time in the straights. I dig AWD, but I drive a Subaru... bias!

Porsche will complain all day when they are beaten especially in their back yard. That being said, this Nissan did a damn good job and it is a damn good car. But in the end, without a doubt the ZR-1 and Viper were faster (and with the Nissan) all 3 faster than Porsche. But the truth is the ZR-1 is the King of the Road, at Nurburgring and all around. In reality, none of us idiots on YouTube could even do a 9 minute lap around this track, so ALL OF these posts are nonsense and so are we.
@onecunningfox I agree with you the zr1 is the king of nurburging, and im a gtr fan. It is king because it is the best value production car that runs the fastest time in the ring stock. But the reason Im a fan of the gtr is because it is the car that has the most potential, the foundation of the GTR is a tuners dream because it has the best gains when it comes to modifications. So when it comes to giving all these cars another $10,000 in upgrades, the GTR will come out on top in value.
That is totally incorrect "Nightrider"/Knightrider. For 10K more you could have rebuilt KITT, and he would have slammed all other cars and the whole track.....
In all seriousness, I appreciate the GTR. It is great, but I would not want it. And why stop at 10k, make it 25k or 50k...there are no limits. My '08 Corvette is good enough (6-Speed w/ Z51 suspension)...Porsche, altho' a more elegant car than a Vette is a better comparison. The Nissan is a different car class.
love these cars and you can't say what the power is every R35 GTR's engines are hand made and have between 480-570BHP none of them have the same power out put. It is all about putting the power you have throught the drive chain on the road nissan and ferrari and the daddies at doing this.

this looks and sounds like standard Nissan GTR to me. Even more surprising it only has 480BHP. Which proves it's more important to transfer all power to track, than to carry lots of power without controle. That GTR is an absolute master piece...At the Nordschleife, chassis, brakes and handling is key, power is a 'nice-to-have'.

All GT-Rs are equipped with robotized dual clutch gearbox (recently similiar transmissions have become available for Porsches and BMWs, as well as Lancer Evo X, Audis, VWs and some others). With them you switch gears via shifters behind the steering wheel or automatically.

The GT-R has a computer running it's AWD system that would make NASA proud. I think it is one of the best production cars for transferring power from the motor to the asphalt. It is very balanced overall, fast through the curves and being able to pull well in the straights. The Vette does it in a different style. More easy through the corners to keep the rear under control and using its angry torque band and HP to make up that lost time in the straights. I dig AWD, but I drive a Subaru... bias!

1 - This Nissan Record lasted about 1 month and was beaten by Chevy (ZR-1).
2 - This Nissan sounds AWFUL and cheap (but it kicks ass).
3 - The ZR-1 is the King of the Road (like it or not).
4 - No one on YouTube could make a 9 minute lap on this track even in an F1 or Indy Car...so dream on!
5 - Porsche (although not a fan) has more sports car track wins than Nissan + Chevy + Dodge added together.

Porsche will complain all day when they are beaten especially in their back yard. That being said, this Nissan did a damn good job and it is a damn good car. But in the end, without a doubt the ZR-1 and Viper were faster (and with the Nissan) all 3 faster than Porsche. But the truth is the ZR-1 is the King of the Road, at Nurburgring and all around. In reality, none of us idiots on YouTube could even do a 9 minute lap around this track, so ALL OF these posts are nonsense and so are we.

But the reason Im a fan of the gtr is because it is the car that has the most potential, the foundation of the GTR is a tuners dream because it has the best gains when it comes to modifications. So when it comes to giving all these cars another $10,000 in upgrades, the GTR will come out on top in value.

love these cars and you can't say what the power is every R35 GTR's engines are hand made and have between 480-570BHP none of them have the same power out put. It is all about putting the power you have throught the drive chain on the road nissan and ferrari and the daddies at doing this.

this looks and sounds like standard Nissan GTR to me. Even more surprising it only has 480BHP. Which proves it's more important to transfer all power to track, than to carry lots of power without controle. That GTR is an absolute master piece...At the Nordschleife, chassis, brakes and handling is key, power is a 'nice-to-have'.

All GT-Rs are equipped with robotized dual clutch gearbox (recently similiar transmissions have become available for Porsches and BMWs, as well as Lancer Evo X, Audis, VWs and some others). With them you switch gears via shifters behind the steering wheel or automatically.

I can get around 35mpg on the highway in the UK out of a GT-R.

I reckon the average driver ie; everyone watching tnis vid would get more out of the GTR than th ZR1 both on track and in real world driving. The ZR1 is a right handfull and most of us mere mortals would bin it big time if we tried to give it some stick. I know which one i'd rather be driving if i were to lose it, the one with steel bodywork. None of us could make the most of either car but we'd make more of the GTR anyday. 1. Porsche uses Michelin Pilot Cup tires....basically cut slicks. So whats the big deal?
2. The majority of modern sports cars use sophisticated traction control/computer management systems; porsche, corvette included.
3. Funny how now that porsche comes out with their pdk system, NOW paddle shift becomes popular? Werent these the same ppl hating on the gt-r for being too computerized?

On a side note I am a huge porsche fan, the new gt3 rs is drop dead gorgeous.
Bottom line, give the gt-r its dues, its weighs 800lbs more than a Zr-1 is down 120 horsepower and more than 100lb ft tq and is what .4 seconds slower around the ring? The Zr-1 has brakes from an enzo, ridiculous 335 rear section tires. and is only .4 seconds faster? Ridiculous

if i had a gtr i'd challenge you to a snow race, since i can say for sure that a GT-R will be faster even on snow than a Jeep, both 4 weel drive, but the gtr has more power than any stock Jeep, and it has a fully auto, computer controlled diff that makes it drivable on any sufrace, so equip em both with snow tires and the GT-R will smoke the jeep.
Other than that, you sound like s sad little bitch swearing to each and everyone, just like allmost any other american that can't stant the GT-R, sad

Wahaha your so ignorant, the GT-R is extensively snow tested, comes with snowtires stock if required and its fast as hell on snow as long as you don't use traction controll and do use VDC.
So it smokes any stock jeep.
i'd say compare it to a ZR1 on snow, it drives like shit on tarmac, so i can imagine it doesnt even move in a straight line on snow.
The GT-R was tested for years on end on the ring, even in snow. You just can take it that the best cars are made outside the US... sad...sad...sad

ZR1 retail price in holland: € 202690 ringtime: 7:26.4
GT-R retail price in holland: €120200 ringtime: 7:26.70
Radical SR8 retail price in holland: about €60000 ringtime: 6:55 (yes its roadlegal)
less than third the price... and faster... and besides that, its all about who's driving the car, because the GT-R smoked the ZR1 on the topgear track for example, probably because the ZR1 handles like shit.

GTR ringtime was 7:26 with SEMI slick tires. It ran 7:38 on street tires. hahahahaha
