Agreed, actually. A rare case that is so. James Cooper could sometimes write good action scenes, but his prose and attempts to blend with the Romantics of his time fall flat. He did not have a good ear for the beauty of words imho.

It might by stretch of the imagination , but really it seems to reflect the mindset of a purest hunter.

Listen closely, good music doesnt need lyrics. Try to imagine the hopes and motivation of a hunter when he gathers his tools, then the reality that hits him when the icy winds greet him at the door.
