crazy story, i remember hearing about this when it happened. my wife lived in w. memphis and her parents told her the same things about devil music and it is scarey to think that the ppl in the south back then were so churchy and so against sex, drugs and rock and roll that they singled out 3 rebellious heavy metal fans. The choice they were given was guilty or guilty. But now they have been proven innocent! Are there others like them, wrongfully accused and convicted, yes.
The problem with this that I just can't grasp is, if they were released because they were innocent, then why would they have also been given a ten year suspended sentence?? It just doesn't make any sense. Let them live their lives, half of which has already been taken from them.
A jury of twelve convicted these men of capital murder based on inconclusive evidence in a small community with concentrated, bias views of "the different." Echols was viewed as a dark Satanist before the case even went to trial. The prosecution placed strategic people on the stand, who made vague, seemingly rehearsed statements. I hope for an exhoneration. The justice system is not perfect people. DNA evidence has proven that innocent people on death row, or killed on death row, in the past.
I see so many inconsistencies on the sides of the prosecution. The witnesses to Echols' confessions could not elaborate on details of time, place, and their accounts seemed rehearsed. No DNA evidence linked the three accused to the scene of the crime, ie,. no blood or fibers at the scene at Robinhood (which fascinated me since the victims were exsanguinated and mutilated). The prosecution capitalized on public opinion and media bias.
Not only did this post call these innocent men killers in the title of this video, but this case took place in Memphis, Arkansas!! NOT TENNESSEE!! So glad they are out!! The fight is not over though, they still need to be exonerated!!!!!!!

@ all of you who are discussing why they plead guilty. i've read numerous times that it was an alford plea: a plea where they claim innocence, yet plead guilty because that's the only way the prosecutors will let them get out of jail. the prosecuters obviously know deep down they effed up, but are too arrogant to admit they were wrong, and want to prevent the West Memphis Three from suing the state. Since it's the only way for them to get out of jail, they took the deal.

Echols was very mentally disturbed at the time of the murders.... fact. You should check out that before you draw any conclusion. The 12 hour confession is pure fiction... fact. The problem with this that I just can't grasp is, if they were released because they were innocent, then why would they have also been given a ten year suspended sentence?? It just doesn't make any sense. Let them live their lives, half of which has already been taken from them.

A jury of twelve convicted these men of capital murder based on inconclusive evidence in a small community with concentrated, bias views of "the different." Echols was viewed as a dark Satanist before the case even went to trial. The prosecution placed strategic people on the stand, who made vague, seemingly rehearsed statements. I hope for an exhoneration. The justice system is not perfect people. DNA evidence has proven that innocent people on death row, or killed on death row, in the past.

I see so many inconsistencies on the sides of the prosecution. The witnesses to Echols' confessions could not elaborate on details of time, place, and their accounts seemed rehearsed. No DNA evidence linked the three accused to the scene of the crime, ie,. no blood or fibers at the scene at Robinhood (which fascinated me since the victims were exsanguinated and mutilated). The prosecution capitalized on public opinion and media bias.

@ all of you who are discussing why they plead guilty. i've read numerous times that it was an alford plea: a plea where they claim innocence, yet plead guilty because that's the only way the prosecutors will let them get out of jail. the prosecuters obviously know deep down they effed up, but are too arrogant to admit they were wrong, and want to prevent the West Memphis Three from suing the state. Since it's the only way for them to get out of jail, they took the deal.

Echols was very mentally disturbed at the time of the murders.... fact. You should check out that before you draw any conclusion. The 12 hour confession is pure fiction... fact. I personally believe the medical examiner did a piss poor job of documenting this. I was in support of the WM3 until I started looking at the facts of the case and the hollywood re-spin of how it occurred. Trust me, I have NO great love of the legal system or cops... but this story isn't as simple as they make it.

@cordrenkin there was a man who walked into an establishment with mud and blood all over him that night , he used the bathroom , police collected evidence the next day and then lost the evidence. whats wrong is there is a man on the loose , most likely moved on and has killed others in different states . And yes after being badgered by cops menatally unstable individuals will try to find a way out because of fear.
