  • I am 65 years of age now. When I was a barefoot kid, I lived in southwest Louisiana. My brothers and I, would spend many hours hanging out at the old Kansas City Southern depot. I remember one cold winter day , the passenger pulled in late evening. The baggage coach door slid open. There stood three of the biggest US soldiers I had ever seen, as if standing guard, by a flag draped coffin. Minutes later the door closed, train pulled out. To this day I still wonder who and how the man died.

  • @headredbone Musta have been one hell of a man,,,,

  • @paulinus43ad I really beleive that back then, the USA Government had more respect for the fallen than now. It is sad, but true

  • @headredbone Yep gotta agree,, all the fallen gotta have respect,,,

  • @headredbone Korean War would be my best guess. It must have been quite a sight...

  • Ya know I reckon A Hundred Highways best album Johnny has done,, his life,,

  • This sure is upsetting. I wish he was still around...

  • RIP Mr.Cash may your beautiful music live forever.

  • So beautiful Johnny Why,,,

  • everytime I hear this song, I start to cry... There are not many songs who can do this...

  • so sad sang wit true emotion my eyes are red ???

  • Wow.....what a song!!

  • 2 people have no soul

  • One day, maybe, my future grandchildren will hear this, and they'll say: "Now I know why grandpa used to love this!".

May I won't be in this world anymore, but I hope they watch it, and share it with their friends. To relax, and think on good times, everyone together.

(wow, I got inspired in this text... this song makes we think, don't you think? :))

  • im crying

  • This song is too good, but so sad :[

  • Johnny was and always will be the best. Love you Johnny!!!

  • This always makes me cry such an emotional song..nobody could do raw honesty in song like John Cash.

  • I don't like this song :(

Don't get me wrong I'm a huuuuge fan of Cash but every time I hear this song It just so sad, I can't stand to listen to it all. American V Is an incredibly sad album but this song I can't listen to anymore. It's heartbreaking. I hope ye don't take this comment the wrong way or that I hate Cash but that is in no way true. It's just difficult to listen to because of the message behind this song. Hank Williams sure could write songs :'(

  • johnny is the best

  • "It's hard to know, she's gone forever."

that line breaks my heart everytime. I'm so close to crying... It makes me want to spend every second I have with my loved ones.

  • Did John Wayne influence Johny Cash or vice versa? I heard that Johny Cash's dad was a real A-- hole.

  • I read Johnny's autobiography and from what I gather, his dad wasn't a bad person. Very hardworking and strict but cared deeply for his children.

  • He was kinda hard on Johnny at times, didn't approve of his interest in music and directly or indirectly blamed him for the death of Jack, Johnny's older brother.

  • Goodbye, Johnny...

  • this song makes me cherish every waking moment that i have with my family. thank you johnny for such a beautiful song. i hope everyone will count their blessing and spend every chance you get with your loved ones and tell them many times how much you love them and appreciate them, before its too late!

  • this song is so heartwarming. it makes me think about my father in law, who passed on 6/13/09. he taught me so much in the 14 yrs that i had the honor and priveledge of having him in my life. he was a kind and gentle soul, that will be greatly missed! he was like my daddy, he considered me one of his children. LOVE YOU DADDY! i hate knowing that he is gone forever! this definately makes my top 3 list

  • R.I.P-johnny.we all love you.your music will live on!

  • Very true, very emotional. The beauty of Johnny Cash's music. He is missed.

  • the best ever, we love you johnny

  • i wonder who snapped that photo of them and the baby in the hospital?

    and put it out there?

    well its cute tho

  • i almost made it without a tear, then one got away from me at 4:12

  • RIP Mr.Cash. You sir, Will be missed.

  • johnny cash is amazing his life story is just soo sad but still amazing to read about, there is a vid of him on youtube of his last performance and he is just broken of the dead of his wife it has totally weakend him.

johnny was one of very few artists who really put a lot of emotion in his music and that makes johnny great!

Rest in Peace; man in black!

  • Top 5, period. RIP

  • It's such an intense song... the chords make it more intense... "They're carrying her home, on the evenin train..." - simple enough to bring back tears in our eyes... It just reminds me, we all will be going back home, but dunno when... so, love and live... - VK

  • RIP Mr.Cash, You sir are missed.

  • It is not possible to sit and listen to this song, without crying .......

  • this is such a sad song... i almost cried listening to it... there should be a warning....

its not cool to cry at work....

  • i love this song right know! MY UNCLE just died

  • this song to me has alot of meaning in it u never know when god is going to call us home and johnny cash knew how to touch the lives of otheres and i think that if people could listen to this song they would understand what i mean

  • Hank Williams wrote this - anyone know where I can find his version??

  • @hank3rox , To date, there is no known version by Hank, shame isn't it.

  • JOhnny Cash does it good but Molly O Day put more power and emotion in it. Molly can not be beat on this song or any other song she sang.

  • Johnny was almost dead also. Think before you speak.

  • His impending demise is totally irellevant.

  • At 2:04, which one of his kids is that? And is that June or his first wife?

  • its june but i dunno what kid either

  • the baby is John Carter Cash, the only common kid of them both

  • Its john carter cash.

  • That would be john carter cash.

  • I'm sorry, I'm fifteen seconds in and I can't watch any more. Johnny- You were and will forever be the greatest storyteller in musical history.

  • beautiful. simply beautiful
