It was my understanding that khorasan is in the middle east somewhere. Also the mahdi will come when the khilafah is already established so i don't think the aforementioned army was referring to the talibaan.

@in2universe The Taliban is the Army of the Mahdi according to the Hadith of the Prophet from Musnad Ahmad. "The Hour will not be established until you see the Black Flags rising from Khorisan (Modern day Afghanistan), this is the Army of the Imam."
Mohammed Omar is the Amir-Al-Muminoon as was Umar Ibn Al Khattab, Uthman Ibn Affan, Ali and Abu Bakr were before him. He is the Caliph, Mahdi and Amir Al Mumineen.

Whereas Allah (swt) says: "And there may spring from you a nation who invite to goodness, and enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency. Such are they who are successful." (TMQ 3:104) and "You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration." (TMQ 48:29) Only Ayman az zawahiri, Omar Farooq and Mullah Omar fit the description.

I don't have knowledge about how those people are, but the actions of Taliban so far has been way different from "a nation who invite to goodness, and enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency". such as banning girls from school, forced marriages, underage marriages, forced religious conversions and etc. THese are not Islamic actions.

Underage marriages are Halal in Islam. The Prophet married Aishah (RA) at 6 and consummated the marriage at 9 years of age, or do you forget your history?
Forced religious conversions are Islamic actions too, but they CAN'T be undertaken by the Taliban, only the Caliph can order forced religious conversions.

Therefore, if the majority of Afghan people do not want them, they must step down from power. In other words, they have no authority to do anything except to be a righteous citizens.
