What FDR said in a letter is irrelevant. The 1929 crisis happened because the field of macroeconomics yet hadn't developed. Keynesian economics work, because the free market cannot correct itself. Keynesian economics shortens the throughs and peaks around the average economic growth to stabilize the economy.
