  • Sweet railroad crossing at 2:23, nice video

  • I've always known "exempt" to mean "abandoned". This really threw me off when we visited Madison recently.

  • On A Vacation I Would Take This March To Tomahawk Wisconsin I Plan To Railfan For Some Time Around Madison But Before I Do I Was Curious As To How Much Train Would Come Around Madison Such As The Wisconsin And Southern?

  • Look at that driver at 0:11

  • @dvferyance What about him?

  • @ss3kidgoku went right through when the lights were flashing that's illegal.

  • @dvferyance Not really. If there's a preemption on a traffic light signal thats ahead or behind the railroad crossing it's not illegal if you go on the green arrow/green light that the preemption issues. Once the light turns red, then yeah it's illegal to go.

  • awesome video! very nice crossing at the end!

  • Wow with the crossing at 1:17 talk about having the crossing protected geese thats the biggest amount of lights I've ever seen at a railroad crossing!!! Cool Video!!!

  • funny stoplights!!!! thnx for sharing!!

  • thats odd that overhead traffic light has 2 reds

  • Theres a track I know of in Streator,IL where there is no sign but the track which used to head into an industry which is still there is never used but they don't have a sign up. I know for sure the track is never used cause it is very deteriorated and theres a big piece of concrete in the center that I'd assume and hope the railroad put there.

  • at 1:36 does anyone notice the police car has someone pulled over

  • Lots of people sure like to run the crossing...

  • here in lacrosse, we have a "downtown job" they carry about 5 cars. ALL crossings are posted EXEMPT.

  • Yeah, although crossings marked EXEMPT tend to have fairly low train traffic, it doesn't mean the same thing as TRACKS OUT OF SERVICE as a lot of people seem to think it does. Train traffic is just one of the factors taken into consideration when deciding whether to exempt a crossing.

  • no kidding they are still in use because y would the gates be there? if there r gates, there could still be a train!

  • oh yea, even tho this is a long time later, they only have 1 crossing that DOSE have gates, and its the biggest in La Crosse.

  • how come that one yellow sign says exempt?

  • So vehicles that would have to stop at most railroad crossings (buses etc) are "exempt" from doing so because they would create an undue hazard for traffic due to the configuration of the crossing right at an intersection.

  • thanks!

  • nice vid Andy
