  • the song originally is an old traditional blues/jazz/ragtime song george jones just re-wrote a few verses and changed some of the music a tiny bit to make it more of a country song. but he didn't write the whole thing.

  • If riley puckett died in 1946, and george jones released his first album in 1957, how was Riley able to cover this song that hadn't been written yet. Any statment that starts "according to Wikipedia" is probably going to be incorrect.

  • this song was written by the living legend, George Jones and was a hit for George back in the late 50's or early 60's. George and Johnny where life long friends and toured together during the early years

  • According to Wikipedia, it says George Jones wrote it.

  • im pretty sure this song was written by Riley Puckett, meny years before Cash was born.

i love the Harmonica and peddle steel , in this version

  • @MrChiroux Yeah, this is a cover of the Riley Puckett tune that was probably recorded before Cash was even born!
