  • The FT-100D sounds better to me. Other viewer's comments noted re: gain/filter settings.

  • If any body as a ft100 to sail please i want to by one... please send me mail to ct2iov@sapo.pt... 73 from Arnaldo CT2iov

  • I like the big one KJ4TEE

  • This is like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Volkswagen. For $500. I got a used FT100D , what would a used IC-7600 cost me ? ...lol

  • I do not agree that it is not possible to compare RR and VW...if the condition will be the same. So in case of same conds also for both radios we can compare them. I have FT-100D and K3 so maybe I will try to make the seriou test.

  • Hi,

interesting but not the same conditions on both radios... CW-R on Icom and CW on FT, Pre-amp level 2 on Icom and seems not Pre-amp on FT, BW 500Hz on Icom and which BW on FT?

Otherwise I agree that FT sounds better which is cool :)

  • The high noise level on the Icom comes from the PreAmp. That is switched to level 2. That is normally unnecessary on 20m.

  • I can already tell you that if there is a way to pipe that into an EQ to reduce the bass some you could quickly reduce the noise. Considering that the CW frequency is pretty specific, you could just reject the noise using simple audio filtering. Are these speakers built into the radio too? If so that may have something to do with the noise too as smaller speakers tend to reject lower frequency audio.

  • Actually it would appear that the 7600 has a CW filter built in, thats what it's there for, see the video by ik1lbo.

  • These are silly tests. THere is a few of these tests on youtube. Lets face it, all modern radios have good receivers. Where the higher dollar rigs shine is handling strong signals and adjacent QRM. The filtering on rigs like the PRO 3 and 7600 etc are far superior to the more suited mobile rigs.

  • That is strange but the background noise coming of the FT-100D is pleasant, at least on the youtube video. But comparing the rigs is pretty funny and shows that the FT-100D can do the trick as well. The antenna is 90% of the job to me. Eric.

  • I could listen to the FT-100d for hours but that racket from the IC-7600 is nerve racking! I found the same was true of the Pro series.

  • I agree - the AGC is too fast or something on the 7600 which makes it pierce a bit more. I would think that a radio of this caliber can be adjusted to solve for this. In this video, however, the FT-100D is smoother.

Comparing the rigs on a strong sig doesn't really do the 7600 justice unless you sit there and tweak all the settings to show what it sounds like in all its variations.

Tune in a weak sig and see how well you can dig it out of the noise. The 7600 is superior in that realm.

  • Some time ago I did similar test, comparing my IC 775 and FT 897.

If you want to see real difference between those two transceivers - make the test on 28mhz, with very weak signals.

  • Theyt both sound almost the same in this video. What was your opinion of the test?

  • They are very different radios, but you can hear almost the same on both. Icom is much more pleasant to use than Yaesu.
