I wouldn't say Boise was "headhunting", I feel it was more of Rodgers was just in the wrong place at the wrong time in a position in which he couldn't do anything about it. I wouldn't say Boise was "headhunting", I feel it was more of Rodgers was just in the wrong place at the wrong time in a position in which he couldn't do anything about it. Venable was coming full speed, by the time he sees that Rodgers is there, there's all of 2 yards in between the two. So, I wouldn't really say they were gunning to hurt them, Boise was pretty much in control for most of the game, so it's not like Rodgers was killing them or anything. wrong place wrong time, bad technique.

Not a dirty hit at all! If watch the play at the start, his eyes are fixed on the qb until Rogers stumbles right in front of him. If your eyes are fixed on the qb ready to tackle and someone steps between you, you assume its a block and truck the guy. You have to see the play from his pov. It's easy to watch an overhead and say dirty hit because you saw the whole play as it developed. He wasnt looking when Rogers was shoved forward and began to stumble. Watch when his head turns to Rogers!

in case you didnt notice at the :47 second mark of the vid, there is less than one second between when Rogers got pushed into Venable's path and the impact.
Venable tried to duck under the impact and Rogers tried to back up not enough time.
just the reaction time to move your finger is 1/4 second.
to START to put your hands up takes 1/2 second. so to claim that Venable had the opportunity to avoid the collision is physically impossible

In fact, when helmet's come off, it is more often than not the offensive players fault for not having his chin-strap tight enough. And the his on James was just physics taking its toll. 5-7 188 lbs with no acceleration vs 5-11 223 lbs at full speed. Momentum is too much for James to handle. And the BSU player even put his hands in front of him to lessen the impact.
