In the Netherlands hedgehogs are forbidden as pets. Or actually, no.. let me be more specific: it is forbidden to keep them in the house! From what I've heard they are quite wild, unclean, smell bad and hence don't make good pets. What do you think about that?

From what I know since I'm an ACTUAL hedgehog owner, they are rather clean creatures, tame if handled frequently, do not smell bad and hence make great pets. What do YOU think about that?

Honestly now, please do you research first. African Pygmy hedgehogs are domesticated.

@marnixynaitor So, you getting one means they are legal? There is a something called "de flora- en faunawet". It is prohibited by law to own a hedgehog as a pet (in the house). There is an exception; the four-toed hedgehog (or the African pygmy hedgehog) is legal on condition that the hedgehog is not born in the wild and bought from a 'breeder'. So in general, hedgehogs are illegal as pets (in the house) with this one exception.

dont buy hedgehogs they are bad pets unless you treat them right provide lots of time with them food and try to bond with them. so dont go and buy one because you thinks there cute i have time 2 play with my 163 hedgies every day they are nice and wonderful but people dont always treat them well. so also dont buy from petstores only buy from breeders like me were we dont abuse the animals. hedgehogs will be illegal due to this abuse from people not taking care of them and for econominal reasons

porcupines have barbed spines.You can't touch them.Hedgehogs make their quills stick out in all directions when they feel threatend,other than that they don't hurt.Porcupines hurt all the time.

If I were you, I'd let the hedgie get to know your scent and your voice. That way he won't try to ball up but don't be in shock if he does right off the bat, it'll be a lil while before he trusts you. Good Luck! <3
