This video is a prime example of how the recording industry has ruined the listener. Listener's expectations have reached an impossible high due to a plethora of "perfect recordings." If a live performer makes one mistake, the listener immediate dismisses him because he is not as good as the studio recording. How dare any of you patronize him for making mistakes. We are all human and no human is incapable of making a mistake. This interpretation and his playing are absolutely beautiful.
should note that contemporary mechanical recordings are mixed over various takes. There's not a pianist today that I know of whose got a nail of Backhaus. It's about music after all, an element that's forgotten apparently.
Some things, only Germans can do right. Beethoven interpretation (since Beethoven was German) is one of those things. Just listen how he keeps tempo, it makes me feel amazing, when I hear this strictness and regularity, those few little mistakes are justified by the fact that Kempff was in an advanced stage of Parkinson disease at the time of recording this video.
I love the way he pauses at 5:07 :)

What the hell! He makes a mistake on the chord at 2.06! He seems to play the C# wrongly on the down stroke... nice recovery though.
