"yeah, i'll pay your cabfare home. you can even use my best cologne. just dont be here in the morning when i wake up" rock n' roll lyrics just dont get any better!!!
Listen to the bass part on this recording. OMG... one of the best bass lines ever IMO. The Faces were a great bunch of musicians. Best backing band Rod ever had. The slide guitar and the electric piano are great. The most perfoect recording Rod ever made.
Kick ass from the first note. This is what every band tried to sound like in the 70's. In the 90's this is what most bands could only dream that they sounded like. The guitars sound like if they are played any harder they'll catch on fire. Way cool.
"Stay With Me" is a man's man's song ...... obviously!
I was reminded of this gr8 tune recently, while watching an episode of "EastEnders" - the cockney soap on BBC TV. A drunken Jack Branning had a one-nite stand with a woman called Lorraine Cross - who had acquired a reputation as a drug-addict and a promiscuous, sluttish bed-hopper - and, in the morning following their nite of drunken (and probably rough) sex, he literally threw her out of his 'gaffe' on to the streets of Walford!
Excellent! "Stay With Me" by The Faces featuring Rod Stewart is a very fine single; a classic. it is also arguably one of the gr8 'screwing' records of the 1970's ...... along with a few other singles, including "Get It On" by Marc Bolan & T. Rex, "Afternoon Delight" by The Starland Vocal Band, "A Little Bit More" by Dr Hook and, of course, "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" by Mr Roderick Stewart himself ...... not forgetting "Tonight's The Night" (also by the great man, of course)!
"Stay With Me" by The Faces (with 'Stewarty' on lead vocals) was released in November of 1971, and was in effect the follow-up to the superlative "Maggie May", which had topped the charts for 5 weeks a lil earlier in the year. "Maggie M" was, of course, released as a SOLO single - unlike "Stay With Me" - but The Faces definitely made a contribution (as 'backing' musicians) to the earlier single.
"SWM" was a very macho and chauvinistic song ...... its lyrics were not to everyone's taste!
"......And in the morning, please don't say you love me, Coz i'll only kick you out of the door, Yes, i'll pay ur cab fare, you can even use my best cologne, Just don't be here in the morning when i wake up"
Those lyrics r somewhat unlikely 2 go down well with women who consider themselves feminists, or indeed with members of the 'politically correct' fraternity in general. Back in 1971, however, 'political correctness' as such had not yet sprung into existence.
My eyes still light up when 'Stay With Me' comes on the radio. This is rock and roll at it's finest! Do Kentucky's pigs fly through Evansville, Indiana to this day?
country music in the uk????????? no such thing....just the home of great rock music..

Influenced by the blues, not country. What country music from 1972 or earlier sounds like this?
lamberticus1 2 weeks ago
@lamberticus1 Whoever said that probably connected the slide guitar to country. Definitely blues-influenced.
