lmaoo the japanese samurai can defeat a bunch of mongoals what makes people think they could have defeated a european mid-devil army of knights and such?
@GoHardMG You do know the Mongols Owned the heavy armored European Knights right? It was only when their Khan drank himself to death that the Generals Pulled their army back from Europe to fight for Khanship.
yuppy with their skillful mounted archers and mobility of light cavalry. i think there were some use of early fire powder weapons too. Mongolians shocked the european knights haha
My ancestral homeland shares a great Kinship with Japan. England and Japan are both island nations which achieved greatness by a mix of single-minded determination and blind stupid luck, and in the end, both of them achieved their respective golden ages after the defeat of a massive overwhelming invading force by harsh sea weather.
Granted, The english did actually have to FIGHT the spanish armada for a while before a sea-storm allowed them to set the fleet alight with fireships, but still.
@Etimos Yes, but the English spat in the face of God. So there's a problem there that the Japanese don't have. The English were rebuked by Saint Thomas More for creating the Anglicanism. And for that, the English cut his head off, simply because he was the only who didn't attest to the tyrant, King Henry VIII's, demands. "A Christian religion cannot be commenced by vote or by anyone's command except from that of our Lord Jesus Christ, whom had it granted to Peter, whilst on Earth." -Thomas More
@Dictator300 That's kind of a silly answer, isnt it? In the eyes of the English, and much of the christian world thereafter, Henry's actions, and those of his daughter Elizabeth were sanctified by the 'divine storm' which wrecked the papist armies of the Spanish armada off their coast, ruining an entire nation's military without ever setting a single foot on their 'sacred' island.
If God was really rebuked by anglicanism, why would he have allowed a fleet of his faithful to die in a squall?
@chiconspiracy Well we know that now, but at the time it was quite a powerful idea. The sinking of a mighty armada that should have easily crushed the english forces by an unforseen storm was quite the sign from above at the time.
It's also speculated the the Han chinese intentionally built inferior ships because they hated the mongol rulers to the bone. During Yuan time, Han were segregated from the mongols in city. And only one knife were allowed for several Han households for cooking purpose. This brought the famous "mooncake revolution", the beginning of Ming.
@escapee78 Well, there is ALSO the fact that they demanded hundreds of ships built in a year. Even if you LOVED the Mongolians it was an impossible task, and completing all of that to avoid execution - means your ships aren't gonna be great.
@KingR3aper Archeologists have discovered that large numbers of ships are actually Chinese river ships. River ships have flat hull and lack the deep kneel that stabilized the vessel in deep sea. Because of Kublai Khan's demand of preparing a fleet within a year, the Mongols had to salvage any ship they could find. When the typhoon stuck, the river ships simply turned over and sunk. The Mongols may have a better chance if more time is given to prepare a fleet.
Just read a book about the Cossack, who were may be also a mix of Mogols, Tartar and the domestic tribes in the Mid-Asia. In fact from the history, we all know that different people may be mixed together, just like the Russian is big mix up from Swedish, Mogols, Tatar, Poles...etc and also people of Mid Aisa and even far from Orent......of course it takes over thousand years..this is the history!
this tv drama is a typical japs drama, not show the real, how come only show the mogols were killed by japs so easy in the fighting, but no japs were killed by Mogols? Mogols forces wasn't so weak at that moment!
The Mogols was an open minded tribe, they conquered many countries and people but not destroyed their culture, however they would learn and used it as it was useful. They also didn't mind to hire foreigner as their official like the Italian Marco Polo, and many Chinese too, not like those japs so narrow minded and very keen on anti foreigner. I remember few years ago in the Narita Airport, their immigration department still had the sign show "Alien" but not "Foreigner"
haha..if you watch the japs movie which taken in the 50s & 60s, the armour and uniform of the soldiers (warriors) were not good and colourful as this one, in these TV drama all japs warriors were well dressed like in a show rather than in war. The mogols is famous in its light cavalry and supported with different kind of army groups, this invasion with the assistance of Chinese navy. Unfortunately the Mogols were failed but not defeated by the japs, but by the typhoon.
Yes, you're right, the Song Dynasty was very tough. Song Dynasty resisted the Mongols for almost 50 years. Mongolians started to invade Song Dynasty around 1235, and they conquered Song Dynasty in 1279. The Jurchen Jin Dynasty only resisted for 20 to 30 years.
Probably the first mongol strike was just a recoinassance mission, just to understand and test the Japanese defenses. The second one (1281) was the actual invasion force. Mongols used this strategy against Russia. The Japanese-Mongol fight maybe was a Asian Middle Age and European Middle Age encounter: Japanese with individual fighting style against Mongol collective fighting style.
@mongoliancadet True, in reality the Japanese were beaten and retreated to their forts. However the Mongols thought the Japanese were sending reinforcements and withdrew to their ships. The kamikaze wiped them out.
@Pigeonzbomb12 I dont think they landed in Japan, due to bad whater they delayed their landing. But the wind picked up and destroyed the entire fleet, Mongol soldiers went ashore after their ships wreck but was killed due to exhaustion and some other reasons.
@CHRISTIANSOLDIER101 not at all, just some urban culture is same, as like other east Asian countries , like a Korea and japan. maybe we look like them in ur eyes, but we can distinguish each other, who's who.

@gg26black No, Japanese armour was made of metal or hardened leather scales lacquered black and then laced together with coloured silk or leather cord.

The Japaness have never lost their history as they are far away from China. When other countries like korea, thailand etc. were being attacked by chiness troops, they could keep off a misfortune due to their location. Of course, it's a great thing to defeat Mongolian troops, but except that there was no attack to Japan.
The japanese were lucky. The huricane kamikaze strucked in time. Many monggolian's warships had sunk and depleted their strenght. If not the japs stand no chances against the monggols.Individually the japs were better but collecetively the monggols werr emore superior because they had fought many bigger armies and won
@robo1020 mongols attacked with 30000 soldiers to china and beijing had 50 million people and they lost it means china had more than 25 million soldiers
I wonder if the Mongols had landed a large army if they would have won? Japan is a very mountainous country and that wouldn't have suited Mongolian tactics.
Japan would have suffered under mongolian rule and reunified as a big mongoloid nation under yuan dynasty... thou japanese samurai was heavily equipped but it still could not save them from mongolian rule as mongolian forces were much much advance in warfare and weapons. yet again the tough sea terrain which saved japan !!
Didnt know that the mongols actually arrived into japanese land in that era but mongols failed as china's yuan dynasty to conqueor japan because of kamikaze. however chinese ship were manipulated to weaken mongolian forces to japan... partly was because during early china's han dynasty japan and han emperor had a close relationship... between two country as japan was heavily influnced by china from then.
The Southern Chinese were better treated and favored by their Japanese captors, who let them go; while the other prisoners (Mongols, Koreans, Northern Chinese) were executed.
@762full The Jin dynasty controlled northern China, from Huai River north, before destroyed by Mongols. The Han in the north fled south when they Jurchens invaded. Manchus are surviving Jurchens who escaped to "Manchuria" later on. Mandarin is only a language group from Beijing during Ming dynasty. Not all Chinese say they're Han, only the Han do.
@Seres1091 not really true, depends on how and when you started to count who is Chinese, for 5 thousand years ago, Chinese means all the people along the the yellow River, however after thousand years, all the tribes are mixed together and the majority is so called Han, because the Han Dynasty. Right now some people says Cantonese is the real Chinese language because it still has some old Chinese accent, it may be partly true but not all, because many Hans people immigrate to south..
Since the Hans immigrants had higher civilizations, that might affect the old Cantonese. I wonder nowaday some so called professor always messed up the history. some people don't know much about history may be mislead. However it is true that the original Mandarin should be developed in Yellow River Basin area but not Beijing, Beijing people has its beijing language, just like the taiwan people has its taiwan language (first nation language but not fujianese)
@Pigeonzbomb12 what I know is all the survivors from the typhoon were massacred by the Japs. A small amount were chosen to be slave in japan. At that moment, of course there is no people from taiwan, because taiwan is still a uncivilized land. The Chinese navy were mainly from CheungKiang River area and Fujian.
I still have a hard time with the Samurai uniforms cause some have full armor, some are missing the kabuto, and so on. Still beats the leather armor of the mongols.
I think the Japanese armour is quite well done in this TV drama. The higher rank warriors are wearing heavy O-yoroi. These would usually be the ones who could afford a horse. Lesser rank warriors are wearing lighter Do-maru and Haramaki wrap-around armour and the lowest have Hara-ate which only covers the front plus an eboshi folded cap.
@sogyounokotowari Not a movie but a 49 part TV serial called "Hojo Tokimune". Some people criticise it but it is better than long-running TV dramas shown in my country.
kamikaze helps japan to vanquish mongols..i like mongols but japan fought by its own styles and patriotism..not like koreans and chinese they fought for their mongols master kublhai...banzai japan
really? because Mongols invaded and to over the land that made up China. and if it was the same today it would be the chinese who would have to learn Mongolian since they would be living under mongolian rule
Sir, I trust that you have never been to Ulan Bataar. That's a dangerous place for a Chinese to be in. There are lots of hatred against Chinese in modern day Mongolia. Don't forget, the Mongols slaughtered many Chinese men and women, along with millions of people across Asia and Europe.
if I am a Monools emperor or general at that time, I would attack Japan in autumn & winter. Then Japan would be game over. Also, I would attack western Europe. Then the whole Europe would become part of Mongolian Empire.
Then the western countries and Japan would not bullied other nations in 19th centuary & early 20th centuary.
haha are your neighboring countries of east not western countries? lol learn history.russia and poland and your teutnic knights were defeated by mongols
If Mongols attack Japan in autumn or winter(not in spring& summer), Japan would be conquered by Yuan dynasty( Mongols). It is because typhoon seldom occured in autumn & winter.
Also, as I am a Hong Kong Chinese, it's so sad that Mongols at that time cannot conquered Japan.
if they attack japan on whatever seasons. result is the same. hakata is located most north of kyusyu. they continued to fight for a few months they could not take even this town. you really think if they continued to fight more a few months, they could reach to kyoto and kamakura? lol
The soldiers that attacked Japan were mostly chinese, korean with some mongolian officers, and they were wiped out by a typhoon 2 times when they attacked, so only a fraction of the invasion force made and still caused major damage, now ask urself what if Chingis khan's mangudai or the golden horde made it to Japan without the typhoons to stop them.
The Samurai were and always will be the most disciplined warrior dedicated to form and technique. Take off all the armor and fight one on one with any weapon and the Samurai would win. Miyamoto Musashi could kill any warrior in history.
u are right that samurais are disciplined and strong, but u are wrong when u said mongols are barbaric. Ask urslef how can a simple barbarian conquer 3/4 of the known world and maintain their empire for generations. Of course Chinese will cal us barbarians cause they were conquered by us, they also called the Japanese soldiers who occupied China in WW2 barbaric. Mongols were very disciplined, they were trained at the age of 4.
wtf are you talking about the mongols are the greatest warriors of all time!!!!we had smaller numbers then our eneimes and the mongol now is still the strongest bow and mongol swords are strong and the shape makes it cut 2 time more!!!!
As stated by historians... In Japan back then, the style of warfare involved man-to-man duels even on large battlefields. The Mongols possessed foreign weapons and armor which included superior long-range armaments. Mongols without their long-range land weapons, once in hand-to-hand combat, stood little chance against the disciplined samurai and their weapons.
Actually Japanese swords at the time weren't that great. In fact the famous katana was invented several decades after the Mongolian invasions (which consequently showed them the weaknesses of their swords and prompted them to develop different designs and techniques--> katana).
Plus, although folks considered them barbarians, the Mongols were really disciplined as an army- even more so than several knights or samurai .
Your actually wrong, after the first invasion the Samurai adapted the Tachi to Katana for more close range fighting. And secondly, no the Mongolians were not disciplined. Read up on Chinese history and it shows that the Mongols fell because they couldn't be civilized and were just barbaric. Another instance when someone knows nothing and tries to prove nothing lol.
Mongol soldiers lived nomidcally and was in tone with nature as everyone lived in castle walls, living in castle walls made people weak and vulnerable, but living with nature and the harsh climates makes people stronger. Mongols took soldiers from all the nations they took over, China, korea, middle east, europe, russia and trained them as they trained mongols, but they didnt last a week since the weather was too harsh and walking upstream against a water stream was too much for them.
u dont want to go hand to hand with a mongol army, tough we favored long range battles since it was effective and much more useful than hand to hand, Mongols took pride in their wrestling and martial arts. there were many forms of mongolian wrestling but there is no use of hand to hand if u can take out the enemy from a mile away. If u had a gun and someone is running towards u with a sword would u pick a sword and charge or would u just shoot him.
same say no some say yes, samurias belived in honor in hand to hand combat and yes it takes more skills to kill your enemy up slose but if u want to do it the easy way and plus u dont want to risk your life u use long range wepons
just to let u know shooting arrows and fighting while riding a horse is not that easy as well. Archery is hard to master, archery on a horse was almost impossible for most people other than the altaic nomads. Horse archers were like the tanks of the medieval times. Too bad the mongols did not deploy them there in Japan, most of the invasion forces were chinese and koreans with some mongolian officers.
i wasnt refuring to the archery, i think archery is eay i tried it before but not on a hourse, but i was infuring to the mongolian bombs that they shot from their ships, and it takes more courage to fight up close and more skills depends on wut u mean than to kill someone far range
lol, they are both hard depending on how skilled ur enemy is. if the enemy is a master hand to hand combatant u should take him out from a range, but if the enemy is not very skilled at hand to hand and well sheilded take him out with a swift strike.
its not just about skills, courage to go up to someone to cut his head off, before he cuts your head off, if u arnt that brave u would use long range wepons
nah, i despise those fanboys, like who cares which game or whatever they are talking about is better. Well it seems like a argument for me cause u are saying it takes more skill and courage to kill up close, but i am saying otherwise. Lol this is an argument too, lets just enjoy the vid.
oh really lol, ur tone was so serious u sounded so passionate about the samurais. Well if u feel like we were just chatting then i am sorry. Lol its just that i was just getting tired of people trying to pick an arguement with me all the time.
dood......i was never picking a fight with u =_=,all i said is yes and no about dealing with your enemy and if u think that this was a argument, i dont know how, i wasnt bitching at u r anything i was just talking
lol this was stupid, the reports show Mongols were no match for Samurai in one on one combat. Sure the fleet launched those missles and arrows, but in the urban fight scenes, samurai were in major trouble?
Recent discovery from the wreckage had proved that a large portion of the fleet were actually river ships. Kublai Khan ordered an invasion fleet to be ready within a year. The Mongols simply gathered any ships they could get their hand on. Sea going vessels were poorly and hastily built. The Mongol commander was an experienced army general but lacked the knowledge and experience in naval warfare.
It is true! If leader is killed Mongols automatically retreat! Cuz leader is brain and mustles can`t move without it! But it is almost impossible to kill the leader! ;) However the guy doesn`t look as Commander of Yuan Mongols! You know they had quite decorated golden/yellow armor!
let's face it. by the time of Kublai Khan, the Mongols are already fighting among each other as opposed to fighting together against enemies. The Great Khan of China was fighting his own brother in outer Mongolia; the Qaidu of the Chahatai Khanate was no friend with the Khanblec (Beijing). The Ilkhanate of Persia, brother khanate of the Great Khan was fighting the Mamlukes in Eygpt. The Golden Horde of Russia was not listening to the Great Khan..all in all. Kublai has his limit...
Actually chinese people were not on kublai's side. All the ships, the chinese citizens built for kublai, was just a king size fish ships. That ship wouldn't even pass the medium wind of ocean. Now don't think about the tornado or huge wave.
According to scientists kubilai's troops dead in sea not on land.
Thank to chinese people who built weak ships. According to japanese scientist research, Chinese people built the king size fish ships which is definetely not built for war. Even though china was good at building ships they built a crap for mongols.
and for the reason that Kublain Khan needed his army badly for his Conquer of Europe. That's why he abandoned the plan of conquering JApan...... jus timagine an empire stretching thousand miles - all of those were conquered by "barbarians" as we know them. So, Mongols really ruled the world after Alexander the Great and the Roman Empire.
listen...just who the hell are barbarians? the cultureless savages? i mean if the other civilazations were so greatly developed then, why couldnt they outsmart the "barbarians", if they had the right to call us barbarians then they should've been smarter and stronger than mongols right?.. its so sad that the call the mongols barbarians when they cant win them, givin stupid names and crap....
lol not only does the mongol kill their army, they kill the samurai spirit as well

Pigeonzbomb12 2 years ago 11
@Pigeonzbomb12 Where did you hear this?
Why would they let the dark shorties go?
The North Chinese, Mongols and Koreans are higher quality.
762full 1 year ago
@762full The southern Chinese were the real Han from Southern Song dynasty, the northern "Chinese" were Jurchens/Manchus.
Seres1091 1 year ago
@Seres1091 All the Chinese say "they are all Han".
You mean the Cantonese are the actual Han and the Mandarin are something else?
The Manchus (once called Jurchens) only live in the northeast tip of the country
762full 1 year ago
@762full The Jin dynasty controlled northern China, from Huai River north, before destroyed by Mongols. The Han in the north fled south when they Jurchens invaded. Manchus are surviving Jurchens who escaped to "Manchuria" later on. Mandarin is only a language group from Beijing during Ming dynasty. Not all Chinese say they're Han, only the Han do.
Seres1091 1 year ago
@Seres1091 not really true, depends on how and when you started to count who is Chinese, for 5 thousand years ago, Chinese means all the people along the the yellow River, however after thousand years, all the tribes are mixed together and the majority is so called Han, because the Han Dynasty. Right now some people says Cantonese is the real Chinese language because it still has some old Chinese accent, it may be partly true but not all, because many Hans people immigrate to south..
starstarca 1 year ago
Since the Hans immigrants had higher civilizations, that might affect the old Cantonese. I wonder nowaday some so called professor always messed up the history. some people don't know much about history may be mislead. However it is true that the original Mandarin should be developed in Yellow River Basin area but not Beijing, Beijing people has its beijing language, just like the taiwan people has its taiwan language (first nation language but not fujianese)
starstarca 1 year ago
@starstarca Chinese = Han (descendants of Huangdi), has been that way for 4800 years; why change now?
Seres1091 1 year ago
@Pigeonzbomb12 what I know is all the survivors from the typhoon were massacred by the Japs. A small amount were chosen to be slave in japan. At that moment, of course there is no people from taiwan, because taiwan is still a uncivilized land. The Chinese navy were mainly from CheungKiang River area and Fujian.

AquaExecution 2 years ago
if I am a Monools emperor or general at that time, I would attack Japan in autumn & winter. Then Japan would be game over. Also, I would attack western Europe. Then the whole Europe would become part of Mongolian Empire.
Then the western countries and Japan would not bullied other nations in 19th centuary & early 20th centuary.

The soldiers that attacked Japan were mostly chinese, korean with some mongolian officers, and they were wiped out by a typhoon 2 times when they attacked, so only a fraction of the invasion force made and still caused major damage, now ask urself what if Chingis khan's mangudai or the golden horde made it to Japan without the typhoons to stop them.
munguntulga 2 years ago
The Samurai were and always will be the most disciplined warrior dedicated to form and technique. Take off all the armor and fight one on one with any weapon and the Samurai would win. Miyamoto Musashi could kill any warrior in history.
kfresh2themax 2 years ago
u are right that samurais are disciplined and strong, but u are wrong when u said mongols are barbaric.

I dont know whats more fake the fake figthing style the fake tatics the fake special effects or the fake events in this movie!
ImperialGuard9001 2 years ago
As stated by historians... In Japan back then, the style of warfare involved man-to-man duels even on large battlefields. The Mongols possessed foreign weapons and armor which included superior long-range armaments. Mongols without their long-range land weapons, once in hand-to-hand combat, stood little chance against the disciplined samurai and their weapons.
kfresh2themax 2 years ago
Actually Japanese swords at the time weren't that great. In fact the famous katana was invented several decades after the Mongolian invasions (which consequently showed them the weaknesses of their swords and prompted them to develop different designs and techniques--> katana).
Plus, although folks considered them barbarians, the Mongols were really disciplined as an army- even more so than several knights or samurai .
jonharana 2 years ago
Your actually wrong, after the first invasion the Samurai adapted the Tachi to Katana for more close range fighting. And secondly, no the Mongolians were not disciplined. Read up on Chinese history and it shows that the Mongols fell because they couldn't be civilized and were just barbaric. Another instance when someone knows nothing and tries to prove nothing lol.
kfresh2themax 2 years ago
Mongol soldiers lived nomidcally and was in tone with nature as everyone lived in castle walls, living in castle walls made people weak and vulnerable, but living with nature and the harsh climates makes people stronger. Mongols took soldiers from all the nations they took over, China, korea, middle east, europe, russia and trained them as they trained mongols, but they didnt last a week since the weather was too harsh and walking upstream against a water stream was too much for them.
munguntulga 2 years ago
u dont want to go hand to hand with a mongol army, tough we favored long range battles since it was effective and much more useful than hand to hand, Mongols took pride in their wrestling and martial arts. there were many forms of mongolian wrestling but there is no use of hand to hand if u can take out the enemy from a mile away. If u had a gun and someone is running towards u with a sword would u pick a sword and charge or would u just shoot him.
munguntulga 2 years ago
same say no some say yes, samurias belived in honor in hand to hand combat and yes it takes more skills to kill your enemy up slose but if u want to do it the easy way and plus u dont want to risk your life u use long range wepons
Duanken 2 years ago
just to let u know shooting arrows and fighting while riding a horse is not that easy as well. Archery is hard to master, archery on a horse was almost impossible for most people other than the altaic nomads. Horse archers were like the tanks of the medieval times. Too bad the mongols did not deploy them there in Japan, most of the invasion forces were chinese and koreans with some mongolian officers.
munguntulga 2 years ago
i said that it takes more courage to fight somone up close than to kill them from a long wepon, i never said that it takes no skill in archery
Duanken 2 years ago
when u wrote it takes more skill to fight close up i thought u said it takes more skill hand to hand.
munguntulga 2 years ago
i wasnt refuring to the archery, i think archery is eay i tried it before but not on a hourse, but i was infuring to the mongolian bombs that they shot from their ships, and it takes more courage to fight up close and more skills depends on wut u mean than to kill someone far range
Duanken 2 years ago
lol, they are both hard depending on how skilled ur enemy is. if the enemy is a master hand to hand combatant u should take him out from a range, but if the enemy is not very skilled at hand to hand and well sheilded take him out with a swift strike.
munguntulga 2 years ago
its not just about skills, courage to go up to someone to cut his head off, before he cuts your head off, if u arnt that brave u would use long range wepons
Duanken 2 years ago
ok budy this argument is becoming more about personal opinion rather than facts. I think it is best for both of us to stop.
munguntulga 2 years ago 2

Duanken 2 years ago
nah, i despise those fanboys, like who cares which game or whatever they are talking about is better. Well it seems like a argument for me cause u are saying it takes more skill and courage to kill up close, but i am saying otherwise. Lol this is an argument too, lets just enjoy the vid.

lol this was stupid, the reports show Mongols were no match for Samurai in one on one combat. Sure the fleet launched those missles and arrows, but in the urban fight scenes, samurai were in major trouble?
LingEntityNoobi 2 years ago
Recent discovery from the wreckage had proved that a large portion of the fleet were actually river ships. Kublai Khan ordered an invasion fleet to be ready within a year. The Mongols simply gathered any ships they could get their hand on. Sea going vessels were poorly and hastily built. The Mongol commander was an experienced army general but lacked the knowledge and experience in naval warfare.

let's face it. by the time of Kublai Khan, the Mongols are already fighting among each other as opposed to fighting together against enemies. Kublai has his limit...
cathay1206 2 years ago
Lord Tengri was not totally on Kublai's side for his invasion of Japan, I guess.
cathay1206 2 years ago
Actually chinese people were not on kublai's side. All the ships, the chinese citizens built for kublai, was just a king size fish ships. That ship wouldn't even pass the medium wind of ocean. Now don't think about the tornado or huge wave.
According to scientists kubilai's troops dead in sea not on land.
