I like this movie better than the orginal because with her being alive and the bad guys being there believeable and feel more the family but i wish they would have done more with violence toward the bad guys
Oh our actor Cody is under this comment haha. I did enjoy this movie it was very intense. Thank you for sharing this it was interesting she is a good actress :)
i bought the original and i wnt to see the remake at the movies and dude no where near as good as the original no way its alright for a remake but its only still a bit good cuz of craven and cunningham
I have to say, the new Last House was well done. I guess I shouldn't comment til I see the film! But I think I was down on remakes altogether. I just think Saw, Hostel etc are gratuitous without really distrubing. They're more concerned with style and flashy camera moves/editing than true feeling. Good horror is disturbing when emotional and psychological. I just believe good horror should not be sadistic and this new Last House respected that I think...
On other horror remakes besides this, what about The Thing, The Fly, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Cat People, The Blob, Toolbox Murders, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, My Bloody Valentine 3D, Halloween, Friday The 13th, Willard, house on Haunted Hill, 2001 Maniacs etc.? all enjoyable remakes of the genre.
I agree with the first 5 films you mention. I liked Willard I suppose. Like I say, the rest don't really have any real feeling in my opinion. Uninvolving, sadistic, unemotional... Why not use those budgets on ORIGINAL films from directors and writers who want to explore THEIR OWN ideas and not rip off someone else's all the time... Rod Zombie, Kenny G (terminator), all the same to me. You have to ask, why are Japan/Korea making the best horror these days?
Have you even seen The Thing or The Fly? great remakes of horror from the 50's. What about Invasion of the Body Snatchers, PJ's King Kong, Cat People, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead and Hills Have Eyes? watch them. Shame if you missed out on The Thing or The Fly cause those were the best remakes.
What's wrong with going for the jugular like Hostel instead of tounge-in-cheek like Scream?
@Johnlindsey289 yeah I love The Thing and The Fly remakes. They're visionary directors who want to take a new, personal direction with horror. They're also quite human films, like The Fly, with a lot of resonant issues we can relate to. Good horror. Saw was fine. Can't say I enjoyed the Zack Snyder remake of DOTD. He's a pop video movie director to me, quite annoying.
last house on the left remake didnt really rip off anything from the original. it was the same idea twisted into something else. but if u watch the omen remake that was a rip off of the 1st one in perfect detail. every scene was the exact same
The original was great, but I prefer this version of the film. In the original, Mari's character ends up dying by the time her parents find her. This version leaves more hope in it, which I think makes it more intense and enjoyable to watch (because it's not just about getting revenge anymore, it's about getting revenge in time to save Mari and get her to a hospital).
Yeah, the original sounds dumb if the girl dies. I don't like horrible sad endings. This ending was pretty good though (except the girl's friend died).
But if you think about it, the parents should be mad at the stupid kid who invited the girls over in the first place!
the original was so much better. this one lacked all the extremities, and expression of human nature (which this director so wanted) that the last one had.
i dont know. this one was much more "typical" horror and my ssumption is wes cravens enthusiasm was a marketing toy. There is few films like the origanal and many like the remake. Even with the same gore, the remake did not re-do the emotions felt from the first. They deleted the "piss your pants" scene, added a random sympathetic killer and made the heroine survive, like c'mon.
Agreed, Aside from the bad "comic relief" scenes in the original. The 70s version is far more disturbing. Yes there is some bad acting... but David Hess' performance is untouchable.
i meant i hope its retro in the way the movie is, rather than changing things for cool modern and cliche dialogge that dousnt always work for me.. it makes sence in my head, lol
horror isnt art. are you only into horror films? despite the fact that jaws is number on afi's films (it shouldnt be), most directors like your boy wes, have one objective. and thats to make people cringe when they go to the movies. how is this art? pornography, is not art. same goes for horror films.
I disagree with you jak, respectfully....I think its art, based on the fact that it makes you feel a certin way. It also gets you thinking about things in different ways. My opinion, art isnt something that can be labeled anyway, it comes from inside yourself. Art can be beauty, death, sex, drugs...thats the beauty of art, its in everything...life imataes art, or art imatates life...I hope that sounded right...LOL.
sorry but stuff like this is tasteless, there is no plot, people just want to see mindless violence. tthe original film was garbage and it should be banned. people need to stop supporting 10 cent screen plays. if u like watching people get raped you need to seek mental help immediately. theres absolutely nothing appealing or even interesting. call the police, go to court, life sentences. end of story. stop hiding behind the mask of "oh its really a story about human nature" what a big lie.
Thanks for your opinion. But you have to remember "It's only a movie".
Art imitates life and unfortunately heinous acts such as rape, torture, and murder continue to happen in our "civilized" society.
Wes Craven's 1972 film was based on director Ingmar Bergman's 1960 film The Virgin Spring. Set in medieval Sweden, TVS is a revenge story about a father's merciless response to the rape/murder of his young daughter. Bergman based his film on a 13th Century folk tale.
How can these stories be anything but about human nature?
When Wes Craven made his 1972 film it was right out of the 60's -- a decade of civil unrest, assassinations, the Manson murders, Vietnam. Again, art imitating life. As dark and as brutal as it is.
At this point I'm wondering if you've ever seen the original or the remake because it seems like all you are saying is your opinion and it has no basis in fact. First, why should the original film be banned? Too squemish to see what happens all the time in the real world? And why do you all of a sudden think we like to watch people get raped, no one likes to watch that, it just adds to our anger of the villians. And you know, sometimes, the system doesn't work!
i hope they dont mess this one up cos the original is such a classic! love the version on sweet child of mine the piano gives it such a different feeling

Torture porn is a gimmick that some filmmakers use for quick and easy shock value. I prefer the old school method myself: "less is more".
