4 (cont)..deny a God in anyway- God could have prchestrated the process. 5. Well thats a tricky thing: I see no proof for evolution, only data which is interpreted according to one's worldview. If you have presupposed already that there's no God, you will find the evidence "overwhelming!". Personally, as a theist I do not find that. Also the layers you speak of - some of them have found to have tree trunks upright going throughout all of them. Hmm not sure bout the animals have to look into tht
@Sophiethefembot You get your evidence of god from personal accounts or from a book. I'll take my evidence any day. Most of gods laws are love god. I find it hard to follow rules which flatter their creator.
@glitterbypink I understand. Well actually I get my evidence from a multitude of places. Have you ever heard belief in God being referred to as a 'meta belief'? This is when there are several components making up your belief in God. These include philosophical arguments, interpretations of data collected from observation of the universe and natural world, personal experiences and much more. This is what makes belief in God hard to dismantle...
@Sophiethefembot I think that actually makes it easier to dismantle, since, all of those types of "evidence" could equally support other gods or mythical creatures.
@glitterbypink well yes technically you are right but thats not the point I was trying to make. My point was that you have to attack EVERY facet of a believer's meta belief in order to weaken their faith or else make them deconvert altogether. Say If you showed why my personal experiences of what I concieve to be God were invalid, I could then still hold to my belief by means of the other compartments of it such as philsophical arguments.
@Sophiethefembot No you don't. You just have to ask few very simple questions and mock their belief to the point they go out and research stuff to prove you wrong. Because there are certain points of logic which cannot be refuted by religion, the only way a religious person can get round it is to ignore it completely, or try to engage it in rational dialogue/research. The former retains their faith and the latter begins their de-conversion process. Most christians have never read the bible.
@Sophiethefembot If it requires multiple proofs to validate the existence of a "god", then it stands to reason that your proof is WEAKER than the "bible thumpers". Why is that? What happens plant, and detonate, explosives on the first floor of a skyscraper? What happens if you light just one square centimeter of your CPU on fire? DEPENDENCIES ARE WEAKNESSES, NOT STRENGTHS.
@Sophiethefembot But that's a common belief in a 'grand creator' which in my opinion, isn't a silly proposition at all. It's probably quite logical to assume something must have created everything, or at least, initiated a creation process. This is, however, an unknowable element as our brains cannot comprehend infinity or 'before time'. For religion to claim rights to *insert any demented belief here* and then act on those beliefs is one of the most terrifying concepts humanity has to offer.
@Sophiethefembot Yeah it will look that way if you don't know Who God really is and by rights He should be flattered well...because He is perfect!! But He in Himself is humble. He showed us in the person of Jesus Christ that He was willing to serve US His Creation, purely out of His love for us. He cares deeply for every person on this planet, Laura and that includes you too - He wants to flatter YOU!! :)
@Sophiethefembot I believe in evolution because anyone can test for it themselves and get the same results as the rest of the scientific community. That's science; testable and repeatable through experimentation and observation. Crucially, it is consistent in its approach to understanding reality. I've only rejected god after applying scientific criteria to it and I've kept an open mind to its possibility (I still do) but religion has yet to provide any supporting evidence for god's existence.
1. The judgement was for humans only, animals are not guilty. 2. Incest? Well it's got too distant now to be incest, but if you're wondering if Adam and Eve's children had incest - yes, but it was ok back then because the genetic problems that arise out of incest weren't present. 3. It's complicated. you should do your best to follow God's Laws out of love for Him but if you fail, Jesus catches you. 4. Yes you can accept evo and be a 'real' christian, it doesn't ......(cont)
you are a very polite, respectful atheist, Laura, something I don't find a lot of on YT, but then again I can understand why - I'm a christian but I don't agree with everything other christians say. I think it's rather arrogant of christians to tell you that you should believe purely JUST because of THEIR personal, subjective experiences.
@14SarahAnne I am not a scientist so I can only tell you what I can explain well. Rest assured there is more proof than the zero proof for god. We have evidence of evolution primarily through:
1. the fossil record of change in earlier species
2. the chemical and anatomical similarities of related life forms
3. the geographic distribution of related species
4. the recorded genetic changes in living organisms over many generations
If you do any research you'll find plenty of evidence.
Ok im gonna explain, God did not punish the animals, God was punishing man because of the evil they were doing. He told Noah to take land animals and birds because he knew they could not survive when he flooded the earth. The marine animals were all ok, because they could swim. God was not punishing them, because they didnt do anything wrong. God was origonally going to destroy everything but Noah was a good man and he pleaded with God, therefore God had mercy on him, his family and the animals.
@14SarahAnne He still fucked over the greater population of land mammals. If god is really such a smart guy and all powerful, why didn't he, you know, just sort of smite all the bad people. Or send out a plague that would only kill humans. Or something to the extent that would make sense for an all powerful, all knowing, all loving being to do.
@glitterbypink Really good questions, Laura but I would encourage you to consider that God is not Someone we humans can understand even half decently otherwise He wouldn't be God! Also, be careful not to put your own presuppositions of what a god should be like into the Real God. Very goods thoughts though :)
It HAS been scientifically proven that all humans descend from the same ancestors; just google mitochondrial Eve or Y-chromosomal Adam. So whether these common ancestors are primates, human beings, Adam and Eve or whatever, we are all more or less related.
Why does it matter about the animals dying, it has no relation to you believing in God. Adam and eve were not related but created from the earth, so no its not incest. As far as following the bible, its all about faith, you put your faith in the lord in that he is always by your side throughout your life. I don't believe in evolution, thats man made nonsense. Unless you were alive during the age of the dinosaurs, you cannot make a claim that some animals existed and some didn't.
@smurfboywv Some people believe the Bible is the word of god, I try and clear up things that do not make sense to me. The incest was not between Adam and Eve, it would be between their subsequent children. Faith is the lack of proof. I have a serious problem following something without proof. While true that one cannot say for sure what animals existed during the era of dinosaurs, we have evidence that has been proven in many different ways that evolution is how it happened.
@smurfboywv Also by your logic, you cannot know that Adam and Eve existed, or that jesus existed without having lived in their time with them... and no, you do not get a special 'get out of logic free' card because god is special. In order to convince me or any other atheist of a god of any sort, you need evidence.
@glitterbypink We are all decendants of Adam and Eve. Wow who brainwashed you? Is athiesm some kind of game to see how many people you can recruit? WOW. Its not for me to provide evidence, if you want proof, pray to God to give you a sign. Its your soul you are condemning, so believe it or not there is heaven and hell, just make sure you make the right decision.
@smurfboywv Well, I guess a book and years of scientific research "brain washed me" . Atheism is a lack of a belief in god. I prayed to god for the first 17 years of my life. No such luck. So I guess he just didn't like me.
@smurfboywv True, man does make mistakes, but science is always working to prove and disprove what is claimed. New information comes everyday and we can learn and develop from it. God is flawed, but god has no room for improvement. He is right, even when he seems morally corrupt.
@glitterbypink where you really believing in his power? or did you just wing it and hope he would do something? God answers prayer in him own time, but you need to trust him and believe he has the power to do what you ask. He doesnt always answer prayer in the way we want him to, but he always answers them.
@14SarahAnne I was a full on believer for about 16 years. As far as I am aware god never answered any of my prayers, and just because you say he answers prayers, doesn't mean it's proof.

@14SarahAnne Do you realize the people who wrote the bible only knew of the desert they lived in.
They did not know about arctic animals and that animals lived on other continents separated by water.
Your bible is a fairy tale.
