Excellent use of recycled materials. This is easy to do. On my part I would make it more esthetically pleasing to the eye. I made my yard to make more park or zen like think Brooklyn B garden. So I would use the same size bottles and a different type maybe coconut fiber and soil.I want it to look good to. I slacked off on Gardening this past season because of new look of my back yard. I found 4 earthboxes on clearance and will use them in the spring. I did grow herbs and tomatoes & peppers.
You don't think some of the plastic bottles might fall due to weight? The sun would warm up and soften the plastic, making it more likely to bend. I'm not sure if that's enough to cause them to fall off, but it's just that some of those bottles are made with very soft plastics. Maybe I'm wrong, and two screws placed far enough apart is enough.
Wow I wasn't expecting that! Lol I thought you were going to cut them in half lengthwise and just set them in in pallet so the pallet would lay like a raised garden bed. This is great! Saves space and recycles the water for other plants!
I like this idea...here in the east though most pallets are made from hardwood and usually are oak. I'm building a deck box from a few of them I've found. It's going to look awesome !
@CanarsieBK The wood looks like the oak boards they sell at the lumber yard so I think they haven't been treated. We throw so much stuff away in the US and then just make more of it. I hate it that so many things go to waste. Cool that you come up with ideas for recycling found materials.
This is fantastic! I've heard of people using pallet wood for wooden floors. There are so many ways to reuse stuff. Anything that keeps money out of corporate hands is great.
good use of a shipping pallet. You can pick up old slightly damaged shipping pallets easily near factories and stores. There is a hardware store not far from my house that puts a pile of them near the road so that people can just come and take them. ~Amanda
Would it be worth considering turning the next pallet 90 degrees and screwing the bottles to the uprights which would then support the bottom of the bottles and there would be no need for chopsticks? It would also give you four columns.
@CanarsieBK I think he means turn it on it's side so the boards that are horizontal, would then be vertical. This way, you can have 4 columns of bottles, but only 2 rows, but then you wouldn't have to use the chopsticks for support since you are setting them up right on the vertical boards
i love this idea... will try it growing veggies in our building rooftop... good way to save water

I'm not sure I would want the ink and chemicals they use for newspaper in my plants(that I want to eat), have you looked into that at all?
mar504 3 months ago
@mar504 Newspaper is commonly put into compost piles. Some people think it's good and some bad...

@TheVisforvanessa Word. Glad you likes. The garden bed would've been a much larger project.

I love this idea! A neighbor just moved out and has several pallets thrown out...I'm grabbing them tonight! lol! This seems like fun.
