@clumma Hi, first of all, we didn't mean for a very quantitative purification of caffeine from coffee. Also, the amount of caffeine in one cup of coffee is in the order of ~100-200 mg; so it's not such a poor yield! Mass spectrometry could have been useful, but NMR was better, as we could much more easily isolate the caffeine signals!
@clumma Also, while there are other signals in the NMR spectrum that result from other impurities and some residual organic solvent (CHCl3), caffeine is characterized by three singlets that appeared at the reasonable chemical shifts in the spectrum.

@JusticeSportsman Yes! Those are signals coming from the hydrogen nuclei in caffeine (hence, caffeine atoms). Sorry for the wording..

Don't you want mass spec? How do you know the CNOs belong to caffeine? It looked like a poor yield coming off the distiller.
