Looks that the touchdown point is at the beginning of the runway!? Is that right? Otherwise the approach was extremely dangerous and the pilots had much luck
the guy had no flaps selected... even with a gusty 10kts crosswind a do228 is very difficult to land on a normal runway let go on a stol field... ive personaly landed in a 35kt headwind on an airfield called jomsom VNJS in nepal
Having another look though, it seems he may have had a flap malfunction which means he would have to land fast and land right at the beggining of the runway so he dosen't run off the end, in which case I should eat my earlier post....yum yum
Fonix! GRANDE ATERRAGEM! acabei de ver uma outra aterragem no Corvo espetacular ms com um Dash. Nao sei qual a melhor!......
Is there a control tower, or automated weather reporting on this airfield? Or any kind of airport official who the pilot could have called before departing?
Actually, the pilot is apprised of the weather prior to leaving for any airport, let alone Corvo. He already knows. The final cap is when he flies over and checks out the windsock to see where the wind's coming from and selects his runway accordingly. Of course, you can only cope with weather. Airports suck as Corvo almost never have control towers. You're on your own.
what does he think he's flying a bush plane? my God this pilot is good. he was sort of landing a 19 seater plane on an aircraft carrier in that condition. don't see much of a difference. damn good!
The DO-228 is designed to take punishment equal to what the Twotter (Twin Otter) can take. It can be found from 9,100-foot-high Lukla in the Himalayas to Congo jungles, from the Caribbean to Corvo. Definitely a bush plane and then some.
Do you honestly think the DO-228 is as tough as the Otter? Try landing the DO-228 off-strip and see how that goes. The Dornier is a good plane, but does not come close to the toughness of the Otter.
Oh I would never compare a 228 to an Otter. I was just pointing out to spode down there that the 228 is not as tough, even though he seems to think it is. To my knowledge there is no airplane out there(same size) that is capable of doing what the Otter does. And that is why Viking is putting them back into production.

The plane seems to speak for itself in many videos just as the Twin Otter does.
SenorSpode 3 years ago
The Dornier is not even close to as tough as the Otter..That retractable gear would shear off if it went into the serious off-strip sites.
qwerty3008 3 years ago
Cool thing with the Twin Otter is we just land it across the runway or taxiway when it's strong wind.
