  • Dwight?

  • where can you buys those?

  • sweet gun

  • May I ask what the weapon is that is in your holster Sir?

  • @runlarryrun77 A 1873 Peacemaker Clone in .45LC

  • @murpheysmuskets Thank you. You sure love your vintage guns :D

  • What sort of range is it accurate to? it looks like your shooting at about 20 yards?

  • How much would I expect to pay for a good flintlock? Nothing fancy. But a nice working gun.

  • @02Blackbeard The cheapest rout to go would be an Indian flintlock from Veteran Arms. A level up from that would be a Pedersoli (be sure and check gunbroker)

  • @murpheysmuskets Thanks for that :)

  • do a drive by 17th century style :)

  • Is the pistol's bore rifled? 'cuz it looks waaaaay too accurate for a smoothbore. Or maybe your aim is just amazing :D

  • @KingOfNormans It is an amazingly accurate smoothbore :)

  • @KingOfNormans Looks very cool too! :D

Any chance to see you shoot a Dreyse needle gun? I see soooo few videos of that and they're all bad :(

  • @KingOfNormans I hope so... I have been looking for one for some time now (its at the top of my want list) I have quite a few really good videos up shooting a Snider Enfield. Not as cool as a needle gun, but dang close.

  • @KingOfNormans A straight bore and good sights and trigger should be good as rifled to 50 yards

  • Do you reckon that the Germanic Dragoon is the norm for flintlock pistol accuracy, or is just the exception? You said it's the most accurate that you own, but I've only seen your Germanic Dragoon and Pedersoli Harpers Ferry, so I'm not sure if you own others. Do you think the Navy Sea Service pistol would be as accurate as (or close to) the Germanic Dragoon?

  • @MarkJT86 The sea service pistols are nice, and plenty accurate. I think the Germanic dragoon has it over most flintlock pistols because of its length and the tapper barrel has.

  • @murpheysmuskets I'd say, any decently bored Barrel of suddicient length will do.

  • Is this another thing we can buy from you Murphey?

  • @SuperR3volver Unfortunately my business didn't take off enough to carry things in stock. I have to do things in bulk orders of 3 or more. Which is why I been selling to local reenactors. Hopefully it will take off soon though.

  • thats amazing. especially for a flintlock smoothbore with no sights. I buy irish linen from arts and crafts store for my patching, by far the best i used. The one flint pistol I owned was no good with ball, so i switched to 9 .32 caliber balls with the cardboard wadding and it did fine. thought of doing that?

  • @mark3smle The much-praised Archers and Longbowmen didnt need any Sight, so I wonder why everybody thinks, that no/simple Sights on Muskets etc. are preventing accurate aiming.

  • @LutzDerLurch practice. but you can easily train a soldier to fire a musket than you can train one on a longbow. muskets are more accurate than one could expect. but within reasonable distances. one cant control what blackpowder does to an unpatched ball in an oversized bore.

  • @mark3smle Funny thing is, that under ideal Conditions a Longbow may even be a very little bit more accurate than a Musket, but that is with perfect Ammunition, no Wind etc.

But within the Realities of War-Ammunition and Circumstances, a Longbow sucks. The Variation in Aerodynamics, Weight and Balances between the single Arrows of Military Supply were far more excessive, than the Variations in Musket Ammunition. So the Bows lost the Cosistency of Ammunition, that many Bow-Priests get ...

  • @LutzDerLurch [cont.] by making their own perfect Arrows. And with Bow, it is not as much Skill, as many think, its just physical strength that takes build up Time. With a Bow, you can actually see the Arrow flying and readjust your Aim, whereas with a Musket you can only walk downrange afterwards, and see if you have scored.

I find the Longbow highly overestimaded and mystified, as are Samurai.

What kills off the Bow most dramatically, ist that your Bow may reach 200-250 yards at maximum,

  • @LutzDerLurch [cont.2] but in between you have to carefully estimate the Targets Distance and aim accordingly. With a Musket, you do not need Elevation at all for the first 150-200 yards.

Also it is often stated that archers trained lifelong, and Musketeer only weeks or Month. But that is a Matter of System. The famous english Archers were ordered to practice every Sunday after Church for an Hour. But as with all imposed Activities (School-Lessons, eh?) One can bet the Hour was more theoretical

  • @LutzDerLurch [cont.3] So with beginning at Age 5, and training until Age 18, and then going to War (Soldiers were always mostly young Lads) you have 1 Hour a Week for 52 Weeks per Year for 13 Years, or shortly: 676 Hours of Training. A Musketeer was training under a completely diffrent System, he was part of a standing Army, usually drilling 3 Hours a Day, 5 Days a Week and 52 weeks for one Year, before considered a Musketeer, 780 Hrs. of Training.

  • @LutzDerLurch [cont.4] And lastly, it is a myth, that Musketeers were cheaper and easier to get than Archers. Matter of Fact: Archers were popular because the were incredibly cheap. It costed English Kings no more than the Parchment of the LAw. The Commoners had to provide themselves with a Bow, with Arrows and Targets, and train without Receiving anything for it. archers were nearly for free. just took a bit of Time, but there were always young People growing.

  • @LutzDerLurch [cont 5] With a Musketeer, its more Difficult. A Musket was, compared with a Bow, insanely Expensive. Nothing you could expect a Commoner to buy on his own, let alone the necessary accoutrements. Careing for a bow is virtually done without wasting much Time, cleaning a Musket after use is essential in keeping it working, and takes an Hour or more. Lead and Powder were far more expensive than today, and whilst you could reuse an Arrow, well a musket Round is pretty much lost.

  • @LutzDerLurch [cont.6]So with a Musketeer Unit, you need to supply the Arms, and the best way is to keep the Musketeers training not once a week but make Musketeering their prime Living. But then, they cant till their Fields and make a Living, so you have to feed, cloth and pay them.

After all, it is often said, archers were great and expensive, and musketeers crap but cheap, but truth is quite diffrent.

  • @LutzDerLurch [cont7end] all expensive but usefull things were kept at Elite-Troops. But you would hardly find Archers in the 1600s.

  • Would you venture to say this is a good option for concealed carry, maybe 125 years ago?

  • @CaptainBerz Na man open carry! lol

  • I've never shot anything like that. Looks like a lot of fun. Great video, I think your starting to get me into this kind of shooting lol.

  • Have you ever loaded either the pistol or the Bessie with the military standard buck and ball? I forget which the british army issued it with 3 or 4 buck shot under the round ball Against singular targets I doubt it would make a change but I wonder if it would make a differance in the firing mechanics.

  • @john4knecht I have shot the Brown Bess with 2 44cal balls sitting under a .69cal ball. Other than accuracy dropping way off too about 50yards, and it kicks a lot, there isn't much change.

  • What kind of muzzle energies do get with that pistol, Murphey? I imagine it's not super high. Really goes to show how devastating heavy, slow projectiles can be.

  • Dude, you need to put some epic 300 fight seen music in the slow motion parts!

  • I have that exact same pistol.I used a lubed felt wad that fits tight in the bore for over powder and patch the ball as you show..It really bucks hard.

  • It seems to have no kick whatsoever... is that an accurate assessment?

    -TEW

  • @theeastwatch yes sir!

  • It don't mean a thing, unless its a Blunderbuss.

    -TEW

  • Flash BOOM fun time! WHOOT!!!!!

  • Nice, looks like a lot of fun :)
