This unit is very good, but DO NOT upgrade to version 48 of the firmware. Stay with version 42 instead. The reason being is when I upgraded to version 48, every time I connected my network usb drive, the router/modem crashes causing inability to access the unit''s web-based browser interface, and losing internet connection completely until it is rebooted.
The latest version of firmware/software is very buggy. Netgear's customer service is terrible.
My DG834Gv3 has 5 antenna ports on the main board but only one connected to the antenna that sticks out the back. Wireless N 5.00ghz is all good for speed but the range is half of the 2.4ghz so if you are a distance away you won't get any speed increase as the lower the signal strength the lower the speed. If you can mod and hack your router you don't really need a new one.
i installed dd-wrt firmware on mine, i run it on 150 mw on both the Wireless N and Wireless G antennas. I also run the Wireless N antenna at 5GHZ. It's a huge increase in speed XD
Omg i just got this can't wait till geek squad comes out to set up! I have 4 lap top computers and all on the internet at same time and it is really slow but mow omg i love it!
CQQL, I've used Netgear for several years now. I haven't had one single problem or interruption. I run the predecessor to the unit he held up with the CQQL blue lightshow / button. It has been running nonstop for more then two years now. It has seven antennas, the one he held up has eight. I almost daily run three laptops and a PS3 and a PSP along with a Sony Locationfree TV router and not once has any one of these devices had any difficulties running in sink.
