  • Bourbon and poker in the ice age? Sounds rather nice...

  • GAME OF THRONES

  • Happy New Year....in 2012..pleeassse don't murder me!

  • Oh I miss Jerry too. :(

  • dammit if jerry's smile ain't the most infectious thing ever :-D

  • why daven?

  • I'm not a bobby or phil hater seen them both plenty of times. Phil lesh and friends better then bob weir and ratdog but jeff chemnti is the the shit. Just listen to the back ground of bobby and phil and most of the time if it was just jerry without backing it would be much cleaner. I miss Uncle Jerry Rip.

  • Least Bobby's wearing pants in this one.

  • This really would be better if someone could edit it so its just Jerry singing. If anyone knows how do it up on another video.

  • Who gives a shit.....Just listen to the music play.

  • They're destroying this country all around you while you people argue about your damn scene.. You guys do realize that don't you? Just thought I would mention that.

  • I knew there was a good reason for me being nicknamed Lobo.

  • Grateful Dead=Love

  • i find it impossible not to smile while singing this :)

  • @LillVicka Don't you mean 16 years?

  • The hippies of today are ravers…fuck

  • @Jestified92 I hope not... Ravers are egotistical addicted to shit assholes, they dont even listen to psychedelic!

  • @aznmetalmunkey but look at how much of the youth has succumbed to the fad, much like those days where it wasn't your regular, you did it because it was different, it had feeling though at that time because it was new and unprecedented, but these days are a facade for them, they think this is a way of life but it isn't, it's actually quite embarrassing, sad to say i work at bestbuy and all these kids do is come in, play the shit they listen to, and shuffle while wearing tails on their belts...

  • @Jestified92 two different scenes on the east coast

  • @imagine27pce I'm from cali so from my experience it's this, yes i know it's a not only a wide generation gap and altogether culture difference but the way it's going is as i've explained it, i see this every day, i've been to these raves, i've actually seen it, soaked it in, and this (in my mind, by all means believe as you please, i don't mean to stir up arguments or debate, just my opinion) is what i've realized, take it or leave it

  • @Jestified92 I think it might be more correct to say the hippies of today are (music) festival folks...

  • @DudefromEvanston fuck it, agree to disagree

  • One of my favs from them...oh how I miss going to their shows. You were amazing Jerry...I miss you. Peace.

  • when I awoke the dire wolf...600 pounds of sin was grinnin at my window...all I

    said was "come on in"

  • sittin here dirnking my cold sierra nevada love this. i miss jerry

  • our wedding song.

  • @sutahlongbranch1 not gonna lie, you couldnt have picked a worse song, haha

  • @yoshortyb you are fuckin sick dude. there is no such thing as a bad Grateful Dead tune.

  • @seattlemac I'm not saying it is a bad song, i'm saying it was a poor choice for a wedding

  • Sweet! Even though almost every track from the Dick Pick's Volumes is available on Spotify nowadays I usually end up watching YouTube instead. There's just something about The Dead that makes you wanna watch the show as well as listening to the music.

Just over 6 years since Jerry past away now... :(

  • @LillVicka Jerry died 16 years ago...

  • Pleeeease dont murder me. To see Jerry would have been something else.

  • would've been cool to see him play pedal steel..

  • Happy peaceful 69th, Jerry, wherever you may be :-)

  • This is such a great band, great track. Just checked out a really awesome track you may like if you dig this search " Pai Crowd, The Music Video,,,Groove•O•Ly•O•Scene "

  • so glad furthur played this at gathering of the vibes. probably my favorite song.

  • THE HIPPIE MOVEMENT OF 2015 IS UPON US SPREAD THE WORD IF YOU WANT IT TO HAPPEN

  • @nimrodremsa ummm the hippie movement of 2007 is well underway. where have you been, youre late..

  • @nimrodremsa why wait till 2015??

  • i heard some where when this song was written it had some relation with the Zodiac killer in Frisco during the 70's is there any truth to that?

  • man i dont need drugs to get me high, grateful dead is enough.

  • they are having so much fun, i love this video.

  • Sounds like a good sound for DnD!

  • wow this was recorded 30 years ago today

  • please dont murder me. so true man, Halucinating!! ahahahaha yeee

  • MUSIC JUST DOESNT GET ANY BETTER RIP THE MAN HIMSELF JERRY GARCIA

  • I remember watching this when it originally aired. I was in college. It was so cool. But all we could do was talk about it. We had no vcrs or anything. THANKYOU youtube and whoever put it up. wwjd?

  • While I consider my self to be a "dead head" I don't like all their music. But I always loved their attitude. They played to play music, not to be famous or to make millions of dollars. The music was always at the heart of what they did. Take a toke on my Jerry!

  • its seems its more like learning to cope with the inevitable problems we all face and trying to make light of a dark situation..... note taken... but really every dead song is epic in its own way.... its all open to interpretation

  • Why watch videos you know you are not going to like? Seems like the song so obviously says we invite most of our own problems.....The Dire Wolf was at the window, and all I said was come on in......wouldn't have been in position to be murdered if hadn't invited it, maybe we should all take a note.....

  • why would u watch this video if ur just gonna talk shit about the Dead. fuck off

  • Comment removed

  • Pleeeeaaasseeeee dont murder me, pleeaaasssseeeee dont murder me!

  • Dont murder me, pleeaaasssseeeee dont murder me.

  • Great tune. I have a gig next week and I'm going to play this.

  • Great performance! Thanks for posting!

  • Imagine this playing while someone is standing over your bed watching you while you sleep.

  • Jerry is now sitting at the right of the Father to clear his mind

  • WOW!!! What an awesome version. Would do many things to be a teenager at that time. If you can't close your eyes and hear the talent than close your eyes tighter and open your ears wider. sniff sniff I would have done anything to be there this night. Saw them 7 times live but wish i could have seen them 700 times. Sniff Sniff.

  • I love it

  • @ missionauto unsuccessful troll is unsuccessful.

  • So nice... That was rare, seeing it all in acoustic! Jerry was on top of it; as always...of course!!! Peace yo!

  • @ThePercussion10 I've never seen this song, not in Acoustic. I have a few live versions of Reckoning, and it's always Acoustic.

  • some people don't see beauty in the dead, some people don't see beauty in anything , but its as David Gans says people dont like it or put it down because they cant see why so many people are having so much fun but o well fuck em...

  • When grateful dead kept popping up in forums I read I had to listen to them. With a name like grateful dead this is not what I expected, and I've never been happier to have my expectations squashed.

  • @Parker393 lol i believe it dumbass! screw your attempt at sarcasm

  • @Parker393 uhh.. the Grateful deads pretty great "Brah" what do you listen to? that gay ass mac miller pussy? or that stupid kid cuddi gayboy? or some jsutin bieber? fucking fag

  • @Parker393

your one of those creepy f**ks that probably wacks his pud to Justin Bieber. No wonder you can't handle the dead. Instead of criticizing a great band you don't understand or don't like you should spend your time somewhere else.

  • cant get enough of this

  • @Parker393 did you jsut call the grateful dead gay?

  • This is one of their best!

  • @Parker393 22. :(

  • @Parker393 gay band? go fuck yourself child. =)

  • thumbs up if you're a stoner!

  • @666darklordsatan666 The username made me lol

  • Grateful Dead Will always live on. This is the soul's music and I mean soul music. My last request shall be "When I'm gone and dead... Please before you rest me to bed.... In that old cold dirt box they call a bed... Play some grateful dead tunes... and let all know that I am gratefully dead"

  • how many listens today

  • @inesyu I'm one. I got my GratefulFul Dead shirt on and I'm ready to spred love around

  • @missionauto i bet you have a huge penis. i believe this based on how cool and hilarious you are.

  • @missionauto I hope the Dire Wolf takes a big bite out of your ASS.

  • @missionauto why are you looking up this music if you think it sucks.

  • @missionauto You My Friend, well.. you need to die, Simple enough?

  • @missionauto Ok, that's your opinion, but explain why and how this music does.

  • I wish there still were Dire Wolfs around..

  • Greatest band all time God I miss Jerry Why did he have to go so soon???????????????

  • Who ever dislikes this is an idiot.

  • Now That is a Damn Fine song thank you you just brought a tear to "el lobo's" Eye. The Grateful Dead" knew what music could be if you just let it.

  • @missionauto You are going to have to say a lot more than that too piss of us dead heads man. :)

    Nice try though!

    Peace&Love.

  • @HighImBaked a lot more like what?like 9/11 was done by its own government?

  • @missionauto 9/11 had its own government..? Interesting....

  • @missionauto I love whiskey!

  • @missionauto dude...this is very talented music...maybe you should turn off your television, get an education and meet some new people.Expand yourself. This music requires alot of soul, talent, and depth of personality to write and play.Something a fucking dumbass backwoods retard such as yourself could never hope to comprehend. Why don't you enlighten us on what sort of music you would find yourself listening to.I am sure the television has told you exactly what is "cool" to play.read a book fag

  • @fidellah23 so ya i listen to arsonists get all the girls.Ya your jealous your fucking ears filled with whiskey cant listen to music of the gods'.

  • @missionauto goddamn man for a motherfucker that says this music sucks you sure do spend a lot of time here. do the robot troll again that shit was funny

  • @missionauto i come because the people just cant enough.ya dig.

  • @missionauto dah realize the dichotomy of your activity. how many times today have you listened to this song

  • @missionauto don't shut the fuck up now i was just gettin started with your ass

  • @missionauto the arsonists aren't even comparable to the Dead. Two intensely different types of music. You obviously like the Dead if you spend so much time trash talking over their videos.

  • @missionauto no its just your all so butt hurt and its easy lulz.My bad you're simple minded person that likes the banjo and occasional reference to drugs and O WERE SOOO FREEEEE HIPPY BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH music then kk enjoy it simpleton.

  • @missionauto how many listens today

  • @inesyu i can listen to something as many times as i want and not my change my opinion on it, you boob.I still it sucks.

  • @missionauto answer the question and enjoy

  • @missionauto ...wow you got some issues...Love Wins

  • @elwoodjamesband" I SAT DOWN TO MY SUPPER WITH MY BOTTLE OF RED WHISKEY".Point proven

  • @missionauto you referenced this at yourself…? I think you made a mistake by allowing your head to pop out of your mothers loose vaginal canal.

  • Whoever was the kind soul that video taped this 30 years ago, you've done the universe a massive favor. For all the betamax distortion and poor audio, this has to be one of the great performances by the dead. They are ALL smiling throughout, Jerry, Bobby, Phil, Mickey. The feeling that comes across in this video goes such a long way towards explaining the Dead's lasting appeal and they KNOW they are just nailing it. The guitars ever so slightly out of tune, Bobby's harmonies just flat. Perfect.

  • I've been very unlucky throughout my life and I rarely happy or able to enjoy anything. I woke up in yet another terrible mood and I just wish I could dream forever. But when I watch this song I can't help but break out in a huge grin. Was I ever cheated being born in this useless generation. I hate my life & everything in it, but this song is a rare ray of sunshine :) Cheers everyone!

  • jerry's smile can wake the dead

  • @inesyu

i LOVE that little smirk on his face!

  • @OriginalRitz

and what's phil all smiley about?!

    i love watching these guys!

  • @OriginalRitz

and what's phil all smiley about?!

    i love watching these guys!

they make amazing music and have a great time doing it

  • @OriginalRitz I like how Mickey gives Brent an approving smile after Jerry's solo. "you'll do nicely, son."

  • Did Hunter ever record this one?

  • all i said was come on in

  • Thumbs up if you listen to this song high as hell! :D

  • DEAD HEAD

  • the grateful dead reminds me how goood it feels to smile

  • well said brother

  • I was going through some olde cassette tapes and i have this album on cassette. i am personally too young to know this, but, this is a song about my favorite animal, so it caught my eye. I actually like this song after hearing it now.

  • @sage4teacher

I know I shouldn't dignify this with a response . . . but aside from the racist ignorance of your comment, the musical ignorance is (arguaby) even worse.

Where do you think rock & roll COMES from, matey?

Your comment makes me think that we've entered the In-tell-i-gen-ce free Zone.

  • Dead in the head=joy in the soul.

  • 1:36 "cut my dick"

  • The whole Dead scene gives me faith, not only in music, but in humanity.

The fans are so genuine, and reading the tolerant and love-based comments here almost makes me cry with joy.

  • @Sitekicker123 Yeah the dead are a great band. One of my faves.

  • He drank a whole bottle of whiskey for his supper? No wonder he was see prehistoric card playing wolves!

  • Don't murder me, man..

  • Jerry taught his children (all of us) well.

    puff puff give:P

  • the grateful dead were great performers and are one of my all time favorite bands. but guys they werent as kind as you think.. they were very narcistic people. its hard to beleieve but man they were mean.

  • @KLBRECH1 Actually, I have a friend that stalked around a hotel after a show in the late '70's and actually found the band's room. She got in and hung out. She said that they were all pretty cool, with the exception of Bobby. She said he was a dick... Everything I've ever heard about Jer, Phil, Mickey has been that they were straight up good guys, I've heard less good things about Bill, but don't really know that from a friend. I've told you what I've heard about Bob

  • I agree. I am part this whole twenty-something stage of what do I want to do and all that jazz. music is merely the expression of ones soul. no matter what style that is, who are you to judge someone elses expression? If you don`t like it, let it be and move on by. No one is forcing anyone to lsiten to anything. You have your own choice and if you choose to rip on someones creative thinking, be ready to reap the after affects.

  • totalydont respect anything thats synthisized remastered or digital ... but this just sucks im sorry jerrys kewl but hes a terrible singer

  • @bluevelvetchair its about the music man smoke another bowl.

  • @bluevelvetchair Bite your tongue, listen to a few dozen renditions of Stella Blue. It was Phil who was the terrible singer, and I cheered like a maniac whenever he stepped up to the mic...

  • i'm only 16 so i never got to see the dead with jerry, but man that would have been awesome. he seems like he was a real cool dude and would have been very interesting to talk to

  • @1969deadhead same here brother. wish he was still around

  • pleeeeeease!!!!

  • Jerry looks truly happy here.

  • Words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia - is there a better combo than that? Another fantastic tune from these legends.

  • Hahaha I was at a Vampire Weekend concert the other day and before the band came on they played this a couple of times... it really added to the atmosphere!!! Hilarious!!! :- D

  • how could you dislike this?

  • yepa yepa

  • well put pilliow

  • Pillowpantleg couldn't have said it any better.

  • I love many different types of music. The real problem today is if 1 band has an origional sound, every record company gets a band to mimic it. Nothing compares to this era. The sound of each band was their own and you could tell which band was playing just by hearing a couple of notes.

  • I am indeed a dead head :)

  • i listen to horrible auto tuned pop then this and now i feel a great vibe compared to that crap on the radio this is amazing music go jam!

  • Theres still great music being made today however you have to search for it. As much as i like the dead/further i also like jazz, electronic, hip-hop(people under the stairs), metal to. You have to open your mind and accept all forms of music there will still be bad music in every genre. The way i see it electronic/house techno is the new psch rock the shit is amazing when your head is in the clouds.

  • I think that by posting a negative view of new music, youre totally pissing on the purity of the promise in the experimentalism of the 60s! I mean, if there wasnt 60s music, rock and roll couldnt have morphed into what is now alt-rock and all the sub-genres of rock, blues, punk, of which hip hop takes heavily on blues and poetry and speaking from the heart. Dont diss on hip-hop, even the airheads who make the shittiest hip hop are at least making unique noise, and thats applaudable. Deadhead.

  • like really, why the fuck was i born int his gay ass generation . this generation has like good nug, aphex, m83 and the biscuits

  • @gtakid4 man join the club, i wish i had a time mashine, i would go back to 1969 - woodstock man and than 70s

  • @4everledzep wouldn't we all man! for me I probably would have gone to 65' or 66' and chilled in San Fran till 68' then hit Woodstock and basically whatever.

  • one of my fav!

  • I really appreciate everything the dead has to offer with their music, on a hard day I just pop in some Jerry and everything seems to just become better. BUT there is good music out there today, not just kanye and lil wayne, there are OTHER alternatives to the 'hippie' generation of music, it hasn't died out, if anything it has trickled down into multiple genres of music today that is just as good and fun to listen to that definitely will give you that pick me up that 'hippie' music has to offer

  • @andrewherr1

right on, man. I hear ya

  • I love Jerry's mannerisms in this one. He's so happy and jovial!

  • One of my all-time favourite Dead songs...hauntingly beautiful and perfect every single time.

  • "Well come on in!" I always thought that was hilarious!

  • Thank you for the video.

  • Saw many a Dead show, first one RFK 72...Jerry always connected through the music, that's the key to good music, did it really move you; this still does!

  • "Please, don't murder me", because I'll haunt ya, until you like, "The Grateful Dead"!

  • It's great how the music in many Greateful Dead songs sort of finds a new meaning when you listen to the lyrics. Well it works both ways I guess, but that's when the songs become interesting. Lyrics here are weird as hell.

  • @Vallelym123 I know just what you are saying. The Grateful Dead have played games with my mind too!

  • I miss Jerry!

  • i could frown for days and jerry will make me smile any day

  • Tom Snyder smoked a cigarette and watched this close up in a comfortable chair!

  • but the cards were all the same...........can I just say "how true this is"
