Thats crochet not knitting on the first bag, and the second bag she was making was the original form of crochet before someone thought of using a hook, very cool that you got video of that thanks for loading.

The second bag is made with a needle. The technique is known as "nålbinding" (needle binding) by the SCA crowd, but the New Guinean stitches are done in a figure eight and are not usually as tight as "nålbinding" stitches.
