  • would you recommend this for action photography

  • @pkdukesnides1 why not??its an awsome camera for starters, but if you increase your budget a bit, i suggest go for Nikon D3100, else go for D5100..

i personally own Sony a200, and Nikon D5100....started off from a200, now moved to D5100...love both my DSLRs =)

  • @waqasyasin why do you say for starters, does it not have many capabilities or something, and can you slow down the shutter speed and what is the continuos shooting mode like?

  • Comment removed

  • @pkdukesnides1 yes we can do everything possible in photography with this DSLR, dont under estimate it =) its one of the best DSLRs for those who are new to photography, CHEAP, GOOD, QUALITY WISE great....continous shooting mode is good, but not as good as the later models, its 3 Frames per second (i dont use continous mode)

but if you are considering buying this DSLR i say go for later ALPHA models, they up to date and the mega pixels go way high than this one (10.2)

  • I own this camera ! and i LOVE IT !

  • Comment removed

  • Does it only take pictures?

  • @SJSkateHD Yep

  • can you change the lense?

  • to anyone with a knowledge of sony cameras, which camera would you deem the best; this sony a200 dslr or the sony cyber-shot hx100v?

  • Cool! This camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: (copy address to browser): tempusALL.bymac.org

I got very professional time-lapse videos with thiscamera! cool sunset videos!

  • this takes video right?

  • found this camera in craigslist for round 350.imgettingthis one tomrow and be buying the lenses soon b4 my trip to spain.good timing.

  • Defonatly getting this now !

  • i dont know why videos about cameras in youtube take so much time in buffering and this guy looks like he is animated

  • i want the lens on the a100

  • a200 or canon xs?

  • that dude is as white as paper

  • OMG!!!! I LOVE HIS SHIRT XDDD

  • My Super Steady Shot is broken and now all my photos are misaligned from the viewfinder. If this were a Canon the SSS would be built into the lens and not the camera body. Fucking bad idea, this is.

It's like an Mac's webcam going out--- you have to send the whole damn thing in to get it fixed.

Don't get this shit. Stick with Canon or Nikon.

  • @EdgarCorona enjoy your non stabilised primes ! haha, faggot.

  • @EdgarCorona I had a similar problem, cost me around 200 to get fixed.

  • Would you recommend the a200 or the canon eos 400D?

  • @c0LdPlayR0cKs i am asking this 4 months and nobody tells me!!!

  • @russia086 yeah, not the only one :))

  • Hi im new to photograpy and im thinking of buying a dslr what should i get for £300 or less and the lenses are a reasonable price? thanks

  • @bammargeraskate96 A sony without a doubt, more bang for your buck, and a cheaper price for lenses (due to the super steady shot being built into the camera body and not in the lenses)

  • i dunno, your better saving your money now and going for a canon 1000d or maybe a 550 if u fancy saving more. the lack of movie mode and high raw processing times along with some what high noise at 800+ iso makes this camera a little bit old now.

  • I got this cameria last year for my birthday. I don't really know anything about it but I think it sucks. I wish it could record

  • Seriously considering one. Who says it's ugly? i think it's pretty solid looking. better looking than a pentax at least!

  • @Cagey75

Search for the pentax D2000 (the white one)

  • why buy a camera and just take pictures. buy a 9 in one and take picture, video, listen to mp3's, mp4's, voice recording, webcam, mass storage all in one!

check out this video for more

    youtube. com/watch?v=WweH2X6z9ZE

  • Mate what you are talking about is a 'jack-of-all-trades' glitchy gadget. This is a professional DSLR camera, which costs a lot of money.

  • me too

this on or the nikon d40?

    someone answer me please

  • i wanted a d40..but they have stopped selling them. Not to good they dont have an af motor ..entry level id go for a sony or nikon d3000

  • This or the Nikon d40?

  • i don't know either ahhh!!!

  • That camera looks damn awful. Eyepiece is a nightmare of course that could be replaced. Hopefully. Better get this camera than d40.

  • which is better? canon slr or this?

  • it's a nice Cam i one to !

what I like most about it is that it is compatible with old Minolta AF lenses so you can purchase cheap lenses for it and they work perfectly!

  • I have this camera, and being somewhat new to photography, I was wondering if you could help me with a query. I have noticed that the exposures take quite a long time. Even with the shutter speed being capable of up to 1/4000, the camera rarely goes beyond 1/100 indoors in normal lighting, and 1/300 outdoors on a bright day. Would you consider this to be normal for this camera, or some sort of issue to adress, because as I see it, it is not performing as it should.

  • what lense do u have on it ? Kit-Lense ?

which programm do u use: Auto, P, and so on?

  • I have expanded my knowledge of this camera since the time of my previous posting, so I am no longer in need of assistance. Thanks anyway.

  • I was going to buy a Sony DSLR because I had a sony DSLR looking camera but was a point and shoot. But after I played with a Sony DSLR I found that I was completely confused about how to work it, I tried using a 450D and found that I understood it from the start so I have gone with that instead.

  • good choice sir.

  • Just picked up my A200 with 18-70mm from Argos of all places at just £259.99. Had to drive 60 miles for it though... but hey, superb in every way. Low light performance is VERY impressive!!

  • I agree low light performance is very nice. Just don't raise the ISO to high ;)

  • Now I know where i'm getting mine... I didn't realise they sold them!!

  • LAZY OAF T-SHIRT!! WOO

  • This camera is a totally awesome entry level DSLR. I am so satisfied with it.

  • Got a question about Live View, I know it isn't available on this model but this is something I've not had a definitive answer on because I don't know anyone with the A200. I know it doesn't have Live View but after you've taken a shot can you still review it on the screen? It doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere and I don't want to assume.

  • of course! haha don't worry the function is there, and you can also zoom in on the pics, quite a large screen too. you can also view histograms of the image to see the levels of colors, black/white levels. Really cool. And delete pictures too of course.

  • >_> I know it's such a dumb question to ask but somehow when I was reading all the reviews I completely missed the playback button on the back at the bottom left. I was too busy reading specs, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :P

  • yes you can. most of the DSLR ( or all?? ) can do that

  • Me too!!

    It`s awsome!!

  • Live View is when you can see through the LCD screen what photo you are taking instead of having to look through the viewfinder.

    Hope this helps

  • Being an old manual SLR person Penx MX, looking to go digital, what do they mean by live view. Thanks

  • Hi. They mean having the picture on the 2.7 inch screen. Rather than looking through the eye.

  • In short, the ability to view the image on the camera's screen, as if you were looking through the viewfinder.

  • you can see the picture you're about to take on the lcd screen

  • why does he hate it?

  • do you have suggestions for a filter on this camera

  • I Have This Cam,

    It's Amazing,

    Images Come Out Brilliant....

  • D60 owns more

  • yes. there is no live view on this model. the live view is available on the 350

  • the sony a200 or the nikon d40? plz help me ????????????????? to take mainly landscape & macro i have about £250 ano its not much but its all i have

  • Sony a200 is better than the d40, the d40 has 6 mega pixels and only 3 af points where this camera has 10 mega pixels and 9 af points.

Its a much better camera and the only thing going for the d40 is the brand name.

  • sony a200 or the olympus e410 ? ? help

  • dude, just cause a200's better specs doesnt mean its better than d40, the a40 beats it hands down when it comes to actual pic taking, btw olympus's suck :D get the d40, iv tried both and the build quality diff is big, the nikon does rock... nice and user freindly too :D

  • get the a200. d40 is an old piece of shit :D

  • lol. I was in the exact same situation... I have just ordered the a200. It looks a lot better. You might want to save up 4 some more lenses as landscape and macro are two ends of the spectrum.

  • This Camera is the shit

  • I meant A330!

  • I need to know, a200 or a350??? It's jsut the price of the 350 thsat's killing me ... but if it's worth it I'll get it. HELP!

  • Can i have some help on this one? Does this mean photo's i have taken on this camera will not be able to be accessed and viewed on the camera's screen? Because I am looking at this camera or the Nikon D40, but there is a 4 megapixel difference between the two, any help out there?

  • why not get the nikon D40x ?

It gives you everything that the Nikon d40 has to offer but it comes with 10 megapixel.

  • get Pentax Km or K200... better than both

  • Will the a200 take in black and white or bo you do this with the software sorry im new to all this

  • Its in the menu, creative mode.

  • Does this camera have a sony hot shoe? I guess i mean not the normal universal hot shoe.

  • Hi pciades, can tell me who to contact to get a better price for buying Sony Digital camera n USA. Interest to buy at least 100 pcs.

  • WOW ur wearing a laxy oaf tee wow

  • hey should i get a nikon D60, sony A200, or canon rebel XS (PLERASE RESPOND)

  • i have just bought one of them today and im so happy with it, i bought the twin lense pack so it also comes with a 75mm-300mm lense. The main use for it for me is aircraft phtotgraphy as i do go plane spotting at heathrow frequently, my m8 has also got that camera and it is very very good

  • Thanks for a great video, I decided to go up to the a300 due to no live view on this camera

  • nikon d60 or canon 1000d or sony a200?

  • nikon d60

  • it looks amazing and i think for what you get compared to the d60 is so much better

  • Thats not true! I have an a200, and it looks better than most of the Nikons.

  • agreed i had a Nikon D40 then went to the Sony A200 and I prefer the sony much more

  • I love the A200, way better then the D60. I find it nicer to hold and the controls are where they should be.

  • How will this compare to a Rebel XT/XTi?

Also Sony has some promotion going where you sign up for a Sony card and u can get one for $217.

  • It depends, Im in the same situation. I was thinking i would go with the nikon d60, Then started looking at the rebel xsi, Then leaning back towards the nikon d90

And NOW lol im looking at this one.

Its hard to choose. Cause i dont want to spend so much money, then have it be wasted

  • i used a200, switched to xs and currently on xti. i love the xti. xti with wide variety of ef lens is a big plus. but this cam is fairly good!

  • How did you do that. The a200 was announced in february 2008 or around this time. When did you buy the xs and when the xti. You must have spent around 2000$ right. why didn't you get a semi-pro or a professional????

  • sony a200 is the best you can buy at this price.amazing...i'm planing to get it near the summer

  • ta. i'm only learning and need seriously help

  • experiment take your camera everywhere ..your friends might mind but then when you show them those beautiful pictures they will mind less...also i would recommend signing up to flickr for critique also because you can get lots of model specific help on groups dedicated to sony cameras and lenses and shooting styles its good fun...if you sign up message me it would be nice to see your work.

    peace

    Brian

  • what is the difference between the ALPHA A200 and the A200K?

  • A free lense I think...something along those lines...check Amazon.

  • alpha a200k is a kit including the sony a200 and a sony dt 18-70mm lens

  • what does it mean about the zoom. I am novice camera enthusiast. I apologize if this is a stupid question.

  • if i get it right you are wondering what 18-70mm means in terms of zoom. That means that your zoom range will be about 3,8 X zoom or so. If this is not what you meant then rephrase it.

  • That is what I meant. But, how did you calculate it? 70/18 = zoom, is that how it works?

  • exactly...for instance 55/18=3.05 and that's the zoom of most kit lenses... (please excuse any mistakes of mine, i'm neither from america nor englad....greece)

  • Sony A200 or Nikon D60?

  • I would like to know the answer to this question too :S

  • A200. I tried Both today and bought the Sony. If your gonna buy, try and get a hands on feel of them both, so you can see for yourself.

  • Thanks :).

  • I would like to say that there are no best camera in the world,i think it's only which 1 you like it better.

And i don't like to say sony is the best and the rest are rubbish.everyone of them are good, you just need the go out there try it and see which i suits you better.

  • What is ISO?

  • it is the level of low light performance

  • this camera won the TIPA award for DSLR Beginner

  • Check out my photos, taken with the Sony a200. (in the video responses)

  • which is better, Sony A200 or Nikon D60? ...

  • I´ve bought the D60 ... great camera

  • shame there is no live view. i'm quite tempted to go for this or the canon 1000D : /

  • 1000d i gott :p

  • zomg i gor one for christmas. love it!

  • Hi, i like your reviews, good job! I have a question for you!

Sincerely tell me wich is better the Sony Alpha A200 or the Canon EOS 1000D DigRebel XS.

This will be my first DSLR and i want to my the best for my budget. In MExico City i can find the A200 with the 2 lenses 18-70/75-300 at 615 USD and the Rebel for 485 USD.

    Thanks for answer. Greetings.

  • you can use old Minolta lense with the A200... making it even better than a D40.

  • Bought mine today, should be delievered next week! :D

  • im thinking of buying a new one right now. I can't wait till my 15th birthday. When I say can't i mean i won't. I'm just confused between this cam or the sony DSC t700

  • im turning 15 in 8 days and trying to decide between this or the d60!

  • SONY! top quality..

  • do u think this camera is good for a person who is just being introduced to photography?

  • Yes,Sony A200 is my first DSLR it is a good and easy to use camera when you get use to it :)

  • 5head...

  • ma friend is getting one of these on saturday but he cant open it till christmas, what is the max arpeture of the 18-70mm?

  • F3.5

  • just got one and couldnt wait for christmas..so i opened it :p im a total noob and i find the instruction booklet very informative. i would go bonkers w/o it. im hoping to expand my shooting skills with the a200...got it at a great price.

  • THE a200 is greate! it's the best!!! XD

  • Sony A200k OR Nikon D40 witch one is the best ?

  • sony A200 is alot better but theres more lenses for the Nikon D40 but if your looking for a better camera the sony A200 is alot better.

  • love the shirt

  • Got he same Question, Sony A200 or Nikon D40???

  • A200

  • hey, so im a beginner in the whole dslr world, what camera do you think would be easier for someone like me to use, the nikon d40 or this one sony a200? thxx

  • the sony alpha a200 is the best...

  • Great review, quick question. What kind of lens are you using in the review? Will an 18-70mm standard lens do?

  • It IS the 18-70mm kit lens on the a200. The a100 we showed in some shots had the Zeiss 16-80mm lens fitted.

  • I'm about to purchase this camera for $339.00. Would this be a good starter camera for someone getting into photography?

  • I have had my a200 now for about 6 months, it is my first dslr and I find it's quite a good camera for the money and with the backward compatibility of Minolta af lenses and flashes it represents great bang for your buck and I'd say it's easier to use and understand and comparable with both the canon xti and Nikon d60.

  • I just got this recently, and it does seem to vibrate when it starts up, contrary to what he says.

    Minor point, good review!

  • It does vibrate slightly but the anti-dust mechanism only activates on power off, not when you turn the camera on. This is stated in Sony's press releases and websites.

  • what's live view?

  • Live view is just like using a compact camera you can view from the LCD for taking pictures.

  • thanks for answering my question.

I don't see why people have a problem with me asking questions.

  • I have just bought 1 A200 i am happy with it,but A300 also have live view the rest is the same as A200.

i buy A200 because it is cheaper that can fit my budget,if you have more money to spend you can consider A300.

  • yeah. I am actually thinking of getting the Fujifilm Finepix S100fs , I know its not a DSLR, but it fits my needs perfectly

  • why is the A100 so much dearer than the A200 on Amazon?

  • what lens do you have on the a200 there?

  • what i noticed, is that the a100 in this vid has a CZ lens... I myself have an a200, good value for money... the kitlens is not too bad, but i like more to shoot with my sigma 28/200...It's an allround lens, and i don't have to change too much...

  • Hey everybody! Could you tell me, what is the difference between a200 and a200k? Thank you very much...

  • a200k refers to the lens kit i believe is the dt 18-70mm

  • I love this camera, im getting it fro my 14th birthday! i cant wait..i love photography!

  • im gessin that ur not 30 like it says on ur profile then.

  • sry lol

    everyone uses my account =)

i honestly dont know who posted that

and am a little freaked out

cuz only my family knows my account info

    n no1 is 14

  • you're fourteen and getting an slr?

    wow

    someone's a little spoiled?

  • I'm hoping to get HALF of the money to get this for my 15th birthday.

  • so am I!

  • I bought the A200 back in March, and it's been very good to me. At the time, lined up with similar Pentax, Nikon, and Canon lines, for what I paid for it ($599) at the Sony store, it was WELL worth it. Best price-to-performance ratio. And it also has a goos all-around kit lens. Definitely meant for people starting out or looking for entry-level. Quite happy with it since; if only it was magnesium....naww... :)

  • Why does the video keep calling me retarded?

  • is not having live-view a big disadvantage?

  • Only for certain types of photography. Until a year or two ago no DSLR had it, so no big deal. But compacts all have it and so some ungraders expect it. Its useful for low and high angle shooting, candid/covert photography and tripod based work, but its not essential.

  • thanx

and apart from the live-view, what are the biggest differences between the a200 and the a300?

  • Which camera do you think is better, the sony a200 or the pentax k200D?

  • how is the macro mode on the a200?

  • The 'macro mode' is just a scene mode that sets a smallish aperture. I assume you're referring to how close you can get.

Minimum shooting distance on a DSLR is determined by the lens you put on it. The standard 18-70mm kit lens can focus up to 38cm of subject, which is about average. A dedicated macro lens would give 1:1 lifesize reproduction.

  • Dear sir, this Alpha A200 use for photo only or movies clip also available in this camera?

  • You don't get movie modes on any DSLR. The mirror mechanism gets in the way. If this is important buy a bridge or superzoom compact camera.

  • Or the Nikon D90 =]

Kind of out of the $ range, but it promises to be a good camera with Mono HD quality movies=]

  • Well you do now! As Jamanesli says, the new Nikon D90 has HD movies but with some limitations (eg limited to 5 min clips in HD mode, 20 in std mode, mono, no mic options etc)

  • im getting this. Quality camera and the price is great!

  • its an amazing camera im planing to get it :)

  • Same here. Good luck with your photography!

  • Features and performance are always good to know, but what about maintenance?

Before you make your purchase make sure you ask where the 'main' backup battery is held, how long it lasts and the likely cost of its replacement.

  • I have one and it is superb. It's now £269 @ Amazon, I went through all the different cameras in this price bracket and you will not find more value for money.

  • Can someone please give me a solid answer on which camera i should purchase......the NIKON D60, SONY alpha 200, Olympus Evolt E-510, or the Canon Digital Rebel XTi??????

  • Im in the same situation, I think im going with the sony, seems like the same quality of the Nikon/Cannon and has a bigger range of cheap good quality lenes because it can use older minolta lenses.
