  • κομματαρα και αναμνησεις...δεν βγαινουν πια τετοιες μουσικες..dark feelings that lead straight into the light ..

  • interpol led me to this

  • No I don't know the details yet. There are in shipment and I should have both discs next week. The label on Amazon is listed as "Fab Distribution", which I believe will just be the Canadian (my home) release label, so I don't know at this point what the parent label or edition is.

  • THIS should have been Charlie Sheens theme tune.

  • This stuff has just been re-released on CD (Feb 2012). You can buy the first two albums today on Amazon. I think this will break big (in a small way) with the re-release. Too bad Adrian is not around to see the accolades.

    They were so perfect!

  • @theekrusher Do you know if they've been remastered or contain any bonus tracks? I've got the Renascent releases but just wondering if it'd be worth buying them again

  • @josssmith

The release arrived. No idea if it is "remastered". The label is "1972" and is a US printing. Sound quality is fantastic. Been spinning nothing but the sound for a couple days now. Wow...........so fucking good!

  • @theekrusher ok thanks.

  • great. thanks. i am happy to find it here. i find myself back in my teens. Schade um Adrian.

  • Yes this song kicks!!!!this is pure coldwave how it always should sound like

  • What a top top fuckin tune

  • does anyone know how to get in contact with someone toget permission to use this song in a film?

  • @dklustick yep you have to get a licsence mate. from the owner of the copyright more than likley the lable they were on. find the office number and ask them someone will point you in the right direction. if you owned a bar for example you would have to apply for a music licsence (in court) which would give you a blanket cover for all music played. but even then court cases have happened. but as a amature film maker i think they may give you a break.

  • @noFinPIKEY

Hey thanks man, I'm just an 18 yearold american trying to bring this music back. It's so good I can barely believe my ears sometimes.

The sound is unpopular ,Pandora doesn't even have this... which is very wrong but I feel could be also to my advantage for licensing.

  • @dklustick good luck

  • Check midheaven. They will have From the Lion's Mouth and Jeopardy in January 2012. See their upcoming releases.

  • 30 years old but never forgotten - AB RIP

  • Adrian Borland était grand .

  • good

  • ES GENIAL! saludos desde Mèxico.

  • The Horrors

  • @ElliotandMitch Ripped them off.

    Yer Sir,indeed.

  • This is so great ! I have been lucky enough to see them playing live once when they where performing in Spuugh Vaals in Holland back in the 80's. Now almost 30 years later this song has not lost one bit of it's magic it had back then.........

  • if u cant hear the cure in there,u dont know anything about anything, never mind music!

  • no thats what my ears are telling me,even U2,but way more Cure!

  • The band The Horrors wish they could be.

    In their fucking dreams.

  • what an awesome song!!!

  • Seriously, why didn't I know these guys before. And why does nobody seem to like ever have heard of them. Seriously...

  • this is basicly the cure before the cure to me,at least elements of it

  • @evelskunny wrong. only a fool would make such a comparison. but nice try. ;)

  • Who had seen them 1980 in Munich, at The Mirage ??? ( am Kosttor) ...

  • Le sound.... Un amour de jeunesse. Peut-être le meilleur groupe new-wave que j'ai jamais entendu... Je me rappelle avoir couru chez "New Rose" quand il est sorti! Fabuleux, magique, mystique... Des guitares évanescentes, une voix complètement désincarnée qui m'as sorti les tripes du bide... Waouhh! Ce groupe, et les Chaméléons et Comsat Angels.... Le bonheur!!

  • Magic till today,

    R.I.P. Adrian Borland !

  • I know it's such a cliche to say 'so ahead of their time' but I mean... Come on!

  • The song constantly playing in charlie Sheen's head

  • Always amazing to see that when it concerns the Sound some Joy Division- devotees have the uncontrollable need to creep out of there holes nagging that JD was so much better. Pathetic.

  • @hanzie28 culture club was better than joy division : )

  • I'm sorry but this sounds like 3rd division Bunnymen. Back in the day I had as many obscure records (Wah Heat included) and saw as many of the whole L'pool/Manchester Bunnies/Teardrop Explodes/Fall type bands and this one escaped me completely. Now I see why.

  • @BiffScooter1

from the lion's mouth is better than any bunnymen album

  • @YOYOdaMOOSE Better than Heaven Up Here? To each his own. The problem I have with the Sound is the lead singer can't actually sing. Then again neither could Bob Dylan and that never stopped him.

  • @BiffScooter1 never stopped Ian Brown or Ian Curtis either!

  • @BiffScooter1

the lead singer for the sound is awesome, guess thats kinda personal preference i suppose... heaven up here is awesome but from the lion's mouth is better

  • @YOYOdaMOOSE Just your opinion but whatever, dude. Doesn't change the fact Ian's vocals are majestic as well as the shards of guitar Will lays down. The Sound after hearing some of these videos I get why they never got big. Sorry, they just are not that good. Anyway, not into old crap at all in 2011 but just some Danish dude was raving about them. Don't get it. I think I'll stick with the Raveonettes in 2011 rather than going back to listen to stuff like this.

  • @BiffScooter1 Excellent reply but they do gain bonus pts for stage presence over "did he move, no, that was just the stage light catching him" Adrian--the dead Ian for being a spastic and the baggy Ian for being a personification of the dancin' by shufflin' your feet around while wearing '80s raver clothes.

  • WTF play it again sam was their last label which recorded their last album

& my FATHER WAS IN IT FUCK!!!

he worked with bauhaus , smiths, the sound, drove the pixies in his car, saw joy division in New York etc ... his job was to go out there & import the 'big upcomming' records to belgium

why was i born at the wrong time...

  • Droning, minimalism at it's finest

  • Yes!!!

  • Why is everyone obsessed with comparing The Sound to Joy Division? I don't get it.

  • @Staticnz Me neither. Doesn't sound anything like them?

  • one of the best songs EVER amazing

  • haha, charlie sheens inspiration

  • Awesome! I saw The Sound supporting Comsat Angels, must have been around 1981. One of the best gigs I have ever seen. RIP Adrian.

  • My favorite song from one of the best albums from the eighties. From the lion's mouth, Comsat Angels' Fiction and U2's October were by far my favorite albums around that time. Hearing just one second of any of those songs brings me back to that time immediately... Echo's Porcupine was added to the mix later. Great times.

  • Wow! I haven't heard this in years. I totally loved this band in the 80's. Almost forgot about them untill I saw this. Thank you for posting. This guy's minimal guitar playing is Epic!

  • still one of my most memorably songs from The Sound and of the 80`s. Wish i could get it on cd, awesome.

  • This IS Charlie Sheen's theme song.

  • Damn, you stole my comment!

  • Let this never become the Charlie Sheen theme song.

  • RIP, Adrian!

  • great band great song

  • I think he mean when you are in a flow.

  • I listen to this every once in a while, great great song!!

  • Wave at its best.. Echt een fantastische track!! RIP Adrian..

    Grtz from Amsterdam

  • Een van de eerste nummers die ik van The Sound gehoord heb. Ik was gelijk verkocht.

  • They could have, should have been MASSIVE......

  • @stevebray55 NO Indie bands just were MASSIVE then - and they really diidn't want to be. But they would have been massive to those who knew. Anyway if you like this. checkout The Chameleons

    watch?v=x7AnaKs3HJ4

    watch?v=-iwxkLByt68

...and you'll find another load of brilliant songs by them yourself

  • I love this song.

  • A genre defining song!

  • why does this music give me more energy and a sense of homesickness after more than 20 years? maybe because this stays a great song!!!!

  • Brilliant..!!

  • muy buena banda !!!!!

  • If I was to make a movie of my teenage years , The Sound would provide the soundtrack - RIP Adrian

  • ♥ I started winning ♥

  • Excellent!

  • I have only just discovered this band, it`s bloody amazing! Does anyone know where I can get hold of any of their music on cd?

  • @cooperman1981

Have a look at the database "Discogs". Type in "Sound, The", it is band No. 2

    Good luck!

  • @TheWhiteShark100 Cool thanks for that, I will check it out.

    RIP

    Adrian & Ian

  • @furakkueroru hahaha! that's if mr. ed is singing, though.

  • The tension is almost unbearable.

  • if these guys were around today they'd be gods. in the 80s they were seen as also rans. i disgree, borland was a superb artist and his death is a sad loss. think it'll take some supercool young blade to namecheck him before he gets due recognition. then again, maybe we should keep him to ourselves and appreciate just how fanastic he was.

  • @phlser im forever honoured and it is biteersweet their histiry but i bow to them, i first heard them when i was 12 or 13 now im 43 n still listen to them oh man , .... what seether n radiohead be without sound joy psyche chameleons???????????????????????????????? oh england oh scotland wot a great land for bandssssssss makes me cry. people r so shit, bands r so awesome n bands r poets POETS !!! what a paradox... i should just date n go with bandguys artistspoets ypyp XXXXXXXXXX

  • so great, this emotion trip through the internet. Great number, even more than 20 years later. Reaches my heart so much easier than the most music i heard since. Lets share more of this music. I for example was also glad to rediscover Kowalski and Grauzone on You tube. Send me your tips!

  • @surfje65 Try Listening to possibly the greatest unknown band of the 80's, The Comsat Angels. Listen to their first three albums, Waiting For A Miracle, Sleep No More and Fiction.

They're also playing at Plug in their hometown of Sheffield this December. Do NOT miss this one.

  • @ds23efi2cv6 I got them all!

  • @surfje65 Chamelions, Fehlfarben album "Monarchie und Alltag", Wall of Voodoo, This Mortal Coil ( Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Modern Englisch, Colourbox, Cindytalk, Wolfgangpress - together), The Glove(Robert Smith), Laibach, Cristian Death and later Vast, Death In Vegas, Marc Lanegan Band, Goldfrapp, Tex

  • so beautiful so desperate

  • You will - eventually - win, Mr. Adrian Borland.

Thanks for the great music, keep on swimming.

  • Love the song and The Sound.

Why did the producers of the video superimpose footage of a jogger over the bands performance? WTF LOL

  • Criminally underrated..... this band deserved so much more recognition!

  • perfect,just perfect...

  • Grandi the Sound, grande Borland - pietra miliare della new wave anni 80

  • wow. thats my joint. thnx for posting this!!!

  • Che ricordi!!!!

  • make sure is strong enought

  • He means he is in a flow!

  • I've posted a cover my band's done of this song. We're a modern day dark post-punk ensemble.

  • Thanks for uploading this onto Youtube !!!

  • It sucks some times with under ground music i grew up with joy division Then i just hear these guys 31 years later? The sound wow there great R.I.P to Adrian he jumped in front of a train whatever way it doesn't matter to be that troubled so sad

  • i go with 124 php. sound outdid division

  • There are few songs that race through your soul, this is one, a pearl of new wave, even more better then Joy Division !

  • I had a aprty in 1990, it was fll of house and boom boom, i had a tape of the sound,... It went loose...

  • @124php hmmm probably not!!!!

  • @124php Yes you're completely right. been lookin and listnin alle evein to Hook en Ratio en Division and bands, this one is what you say an paerl. one of the best, the mother of all wave-songs en spheres. Beautiful!

  • @124php That's BS, The Sound have nothing in common with Joy Division. Both bands are two of my favourites !

  • @124php NOT NEW WAVE!!!!!!

  • @124php The Sound isn`t better then Joy Division and vice versa, their just different!! They were fans of eachothers music and very good friends. But you`re right, this is a pearl! R.I.P Adrian

  • @124php AMEN!

  • great song

  • rip adrian borland

  • @sponooch I spotted Adrian Borland in the Marquee Club once and bought him a beer. I have never know anyone be so pleased / embarrased at being recognised, a really nice bloke. I've always wondered how successful The Sound might have been if Adrian had looked like, say, Simon Le Bon???

  • @ianseddon1976 Cheers !

  • @ianseddon1976 After a concert in Haarlem i met him at the bar and he WAS a really nice person to talk to. Fuck Simon Le Bon, he`s ugly within

  • @ianseddon1976 TRUE. I've wondered that myself. Guys were (and still are) pushed much harder if they're attractive. Sad, but true. And the same thing happens to women. It's a terrible world.

  • Yet another theme song for my life. 1. Strange Day, Pictures of You or Just Like Heaven (The Cure) 2.Love will tear us apart (Joy Division) 3. New Dawn Fades (Moby version of Joy Division) 4. Creep (Radiohead) 5. Anzol (Radio Macau)(portuguese) 6. Cranberries 7. Forever young (Youth Group version of Alpahville) 8. Dive (Nirvana) 9. Today (Smashing Pumpkins) 10. Jeremy (Peral Jam) 11. Cahos AD (Sepultura) 12. Bulls on parade (RATM) 13. His song (Cowboy Junkies)
  • This in all its simplicity sounds awesome!

    so very stylish!

  • i had the album jeopardy on vinyl, thought it was great, got the cd a few years ago, which got stolen...can't win!.

  • I recently discovered the sound while i was researching more punk bands to listen to. Sadly I just discovered that Adrian Borland committed suicide :(

I think the greatest legacy a human being can leave behind is their amazing music.

  • Exponentially better than anything today. RIP AB

  • one of the top 5 best bands of all time for sure...

  • a dream

  • prachtig anno 2009 ook nog

  • Definately one of the best bands ever in that period I sawthem in 1983 i think it was

    In Rotterdam the Netherlands

  • He's great, I love this band. But, I don't blame him for killing himself. Depression, it's a funny animal.

  • my cousin Neil grew up in this era, went to manchester university during the 80's, and got me into this type of music. This was his favourite band, along with joy division and the chameleons

  • He only commited suicide because he was really sick, unlike most musicians who do it out of pressure or some egotistical thing etc. I've actually know people who are so sick, they wish they could just die. Sick as in fucked in the head or having bodily injuries and diseases.

  • Start winning, stop Swimming!

  • A-NO-NA-DA-DO, nunca antes el descubrimiento de un gupo me había impactado tanto.

    Lo dicho, impresionante.

  • I LOVE THIS BAND!!! sux that I didn't get to watch them live, at least I can listen to them whenever I

want :) yeah I find many people don't even know who they are :/

  • probably most UNDER rated band ever, lucky enough i saw them six time live, they always gave there best, outstanding band.nice to know the younger generation recognise them

  • Well perhaps, or The Chameleons they get my vote.Did see The Sound live at Hammersmith Odeon in Nov.'85.Still got the ticket!!!'

This trip also included seeing Vince Hilaire for the first time an old hero of mine.Playing for Pompey away vs.Spurs in a League Cup game. And for the first time see my beloved (well they were in those days)Chelsea vs.Villa in the 1st winning 2-1 Speedie&Dixon scoring for Chels. The crowd was 17500!

  • The Chameleons and The Comsat Angels get my vote.

  • one of the best song ever!!!

  • fovero sygkrotima....fantastic band....cheers from greece

  • shame how hard getting The Sound stuff is!

  • Go to the renascent web mate, they've got all of them

  • mate, I could only find Propaganda and The BBC Recording there

  • just checked on their site, i can't believe they're out of stock they used to have all the albums. You should email them to ask when they'll be on sale again. Otherwise i'm keen to send you copys even if it's better to have originals, let me know
