i had to have a few looks. superb cover, very close to the kc studio version. the japanese are amazing at replicating things and have some of the finest tribute acts in the world, although i have heard their pavarotti isn't all that.
This Japanese trio not only had the courage to play one of KC's masterpieces but also had their drummer not to limit himself to immitate Bill Bruford but to play in his own style. He could easily have had a seat on the original KC if he ever had crossed with Fripp. I will definitely check for more videos on this band.
Rock solid. The drummer is amazing. I love the sound of his drums and cymbals and his choice of fills was brilliant. I saw earlier in the thread that his name is Masuhiro Goto and the band is Ningen Isu. I'll definitely check out their other vids.
i play my bass sitting down and donning a suit on gigs. This was a DIRECT Fripp influence on me. That and i play the bass in a very unorthodox way. John Wetton was agenius on bass though. This song is proof... He proves that the Bass is a melodic, singing instrument, not a groove-maker.
Robert Fripp played sitting down on the original album tour.
Big applause to this band, this song is a symphonic composition and you performed it flawlessly. And the video sound quality is better than any other recording here. My best kudos.
Great! I love the whistle, fine detail. If I wanted to be really fussy, I could say that the guitar has a too short decay, maybe it's the SG in comparison with Fripp's Les Paul.
that left my goddamned pants moist...one of the more staggering compositions in 20th century music. thanks for playing it like badasses, you beautiful Japs!!!
how easy is to play with only the BASIC musical instruments a very complicated song...especially if u use all of them in the right proportions(check out how nice the bass sounds!!!!!).....Congratulations dudes!!!!FUCKING AMAZING!!!
hey there, this band is called Ningen Isu. they're a japanese prog-rock/heavy metal jap-folklore influenced band. they've got lots of other vids on youtube. check out their cover of 21st century schizoid man and one of their original compositions - Heavy Metal no Gyakushu ( which also leads into a cover of 21st century s.m. lol )
ALmost note-for-note from the album, very very nice cover from some exceptionally talented people. I played bass in covering this song and it is not a joke to keep it all together. And I had a five piece band (we added keys and a second guitar); these boys pull it off beautifully with a trio! Tres Bonne!
ok im confused here...their guitarist (the sitting fripp guy with glasses) isnt playing with any overdrive on meaty sections of the song. it makes the whole thing sound thinner than a 1 dollar bill. the bass is pretty much on par...drums....well. but the guitar is what gets me. its a great performance but the guitar tone just disturbs me. please feel free to hop on my ass and bitch. im a bass player anyways.
Seing how it is difficult to bring such a Crimson piece to an accurate result, I would not even dare to speak about energy. They manage to keep intact the spirit of this great composition. Respects Japanese friends !
Its notationally accurate,...but very such low energy there. The last time I saw King Crimson perform this piece, it was musical violence that would put any metal band to shame... they ripped the audience's heads clean off....
A College gym floor in montreal I sat in 1970 and watched in aw King Crimson. Better than their studio records. Thanks for this great rendition of one of my favs. Good job, sweet drums and bass, always a KC magic was their percussion. Yes and timing
What can I say .. I fripped out! `been telling that joke for 30 years too. Extremely tight. I like the way the guitarist was seated, and with glasses no less. I miss Bruford's trademark jumpsuit but this drummer is astoundingly talented. The bassist hit the harmonics just right. I barely noticed the lack of violin but would love to see one of their caliber added. Guitar was eerily true to form. A great performance and a fitting tribute. I want more!
I'm sure Mr. Fripp would be very flattered by this impressive tribute. It's great to see young bands, of any nationality carry on the great progressive music of the 70's. Did I say this drummer is smokin'?
Could someone tell me fingering for intro? (just the chord) i've been tryin to play this and just can't get it right+ I've seen Fripp playing this with different fingerings, of which none seems to sound right when i try it. Thx for any tip!
never mark my words park tonsun quite, just straight forward i love it. omg he thinks we are something that we are not, bt we sit and talk, let him know.
Sounds like a modern-day Byo Ko Ran (who did a ripping version of Great Deceiver in late 70s). Why is it only Japanese bands are the only ones carrying forward the great tunes of Crimson 69-73? Faithfully covered, Muir whistle and all. This clip has more hits than Crimson's 72 TV performance of LTIA.
The band is Ningen-Isu, Japanese hard-rock band with gothic/progressive twist since '90s. They changed drummers time after time, and the drummer playing here seems Masuhiro Goto (who also plays several Japanese prog bands).
I notice that the drummer is female. She is a "Billie Bruford", should I say. Flawless. Captivating. Thank you, guys! I am someone from 1969 (I wish I was born 1969). Completely awesome. I wish I could write something in Japanese to say something in gratitude for their work. No words to describe it. Thanks a million!

A bit mid rangey for me.
Lark's was all about the "resistance" going on. That's why it is the prehistory of grunge etc.
This is probably how the asian ear likes it.
The tonal qualty of a language "tunes" the ear for forms. A tonal language having a different series of stresses than, say, English.
Nice choice of cover, though, and respect for their direction. Do THEY write?
Thumbs up!
