Hello I have a roadmate 1700 I was updating it from magellan and the battery died I did not copy the files and folders first I was wondering if you might be kind enough to copy you're files using explorer and email them to me PLEASE this is the only way to get it working without magellan raping me to repair it any mini usp cable will interface the unit to a pc thanks very much Brian hbhale2000@yahoo.com
Just returned mine - 30 minute battery life, cannot charge from USB, cannot enter coordinates, cannot add or edit POI files, not compatible with any POI or mapping websites, must keep in vehicle - lacks portability, glare on windshield at night, very distracting...
this absolutely works .I just bought this today, went to radioshack, got the red white yellow rca cable for camcorder with the 3.5 jack.went home plugged the 1700 into home dvd player with the red cable into video, white and yellow in audio.movie playing on magellan..... the screen is amazing.im a girl and I figured it out.its simple yall...surprisingly,the people at the store, didnt even know about it.paid 183 with tax at the store for this gps.well worth it.plus it has the sd slot on top.
@frankeecook Girl, you ar a life saver. I thought I had to return my Radio Shack camcorder cables, and look all over for another set. Just plug the RED into the VIDEO, who knew?

Buy a cable that's got red, white, yellow RCA connectors at one end... then at the other end you have a 3.5mm jack, which will have 3 rings on it... if you have a cable as I described, it WILL have the 3 rings at the other end. Then, ironically, you have to connect the RED RCA to the video out (camera, DVD, whatever) which is usually yellow... and that will give you the video to your GPS.
Nice car and nice set up. Can you send me a pic of the actual cable you use for video? My email is wholesalelv1 @@@@@@@@@@@@ yahoo.com. Where did you buy it at? TIA
@xxaznvtguyxx i'm using a cheap portable dvd player from walmart as the source. The cable i use can be found at the source.ca website, item number 4218509
@aziolkow It may not work with every dash but in my ford escape, there is enough space above the CD slot to put a 1x3 piece of velcro. It is very strong and it does not move at all even in bumps and off-road. I use to have another gps there before and i was able to remove the velcro easily without any residue. But the Escape Limited have a painted gloss dash trim, it may not work with regular dash.
@youfermont I have a ford focus. Do you think it will work? My mom bought this GPS for xmas. I didnt know it was mainly use for truckers. BUT I kinda liked it. Because its from my MOM. but see my ford focus is a very small car but this gps is toooo big. :S
sorry for the delay, I had trouble with 3.5mm cables too. I first tried with a generic portable DVD player cable and it did not work. I tried a second one from Circuit City and did not work either. The one I found to work is a Ipod video out cable branded Nextech. The Ipod pin-out is a little shorter between each contact than conventional 3.5mm camcorder cables. I guess any cable with the ''made for ipod'' logo would work for the rm1700 video input.
a was about to return my gps coz for the reason that video doesnt work but when i saw this, i rushed to circuit city and get one and i was really happy to got it working.
and yes i faild on the 1st attemp w/ other cables LOL
Does any one know anything about the Add a Feature Mode? any codes any one?
