  • I then decided to read more of the origins of the Cham people and their language. I was so eager to hear a Cham dialogue and what they looked like because I do speak fluent malay. I've got a sister in law who married a kelantanese and their language is more thai than malay. . I came here hoping to see if there were any such video uploads. You surprised me with your interest and your knowledge in this topic. I am very grateful to you and proud of your dedication. Keep up the good work.

  • Hi brooklynmonk, I did read up on the Champa Kingdom sometime ago and it wasn't as comprehensive as it is today. I intended to read more about the island of Sumatra just today and came across the state of Aceh. I was astounded to read that the Acehnese were Cham descendants and that their language were mainly Cham. They were minor protectorates of the ottoman empire. Learnt to build cannons from the turks. Stoutly defended themselves from the Dutch barbarians......

  • million chinese, vietnamese living in Cambodia too.

  • well pls we don't want them to do anthing stupid to us. we r budda.... we r not sumlim, pls keep that regeilon to urself.... u respcet us n we respcet u.....thx

  • @kacy12345able I have no idea what your comment means. Sorry, if you could maybe get a native speaker or a high school graduate to re-write it, i would be happy to answer.

  • there is no thai muslim but malay muslim in southern thailand

  • By the way, I'm Filipino and I love linguistics and culture very much.

You mentioned that there were Chamic people who settled in the island of Palawan of The Philippines. Where exactly are they? I would like to know thanks.

  • @Just4Kixs They are living in a small community in the southern end of the Island.

  • I'm very glad that research is done with the Chamic people and their langauge. Not much has been done with it and it's said that it could be an endangered language.

  • do the Cham people have any indigenous martial art traditions?

  • @BareseMaledetto I havent been able to find any Cham martial art but I heard a rumor.

  • hi Antonio, do you know of any homestay programs within the Cham communities?

  • @louiselah No, but if you really want to do that, send me a private message and I can probably arrange it for you.

  • @brooklynmonk1 thanks!

  • Your question doesnt relative to my comment, my comment was toward the general cham population in the world. They will continue to be where they at if they let their islam religion dictate thier lives (living in a bouble). By the way i dated n lived with a cham girl for 2 years, anid i will never make that make mistake again. Thier mind sets are weak and very out dated, all because of their religion. As far as Cambodia is it doing alot better compare to 10 years ago and we are in turn around.

  • @562long Proof to us that the "weak and outdated" Cham mindset is because of Islam. Go ahead - prove it.

  • @562long your comments show anger towards cham community in cambodia, seem like they have fuck your mum and your sister.....mybe in this case, u have broke up with your ex cham lover....she didn't allowed u to insert your small dick to her anus, hmmmm thats why u are mad and showing your hatred to the cham people,

  • These people are not Khmer and has no relationship with Khmer. They have been in Cambodia for centuries but they have never benefitted the country in any shapes n forms. Im extremely sicked of these cham people the fact they let religion dictate their lives and over look the bigger problems they are having. They r lost people n will continue to be lost if they continue to let the muslim religion oppress them. WAKE UP U FAWKN CHAM, THE QURAN WONT HELP U ONLY U CAN HELP YOUSELF AND YOUR PEOPLE!!!

  • @562long So, your point is that the rest of Cambodia is doing incredibly well?

  • @brooklynmonk1 salaam alykum my bro in humanity, Yo Brother, when can We see you in/on the traveling channel, Discovering channel and or one of these channel's with you'r own show bro?...Maaan You gotta have you'r own big network show's and time slot, FOR REAL'S... N E way, LOVE YOU'R SHOW BRO...

  • @brooklynmonk1 Hey Antonio! Don't let that fool 562long represent all of the Khmers! I want to see Cambodia be diverse as much as possible with many cultures and people living peacefully together regardless of their religion! This dude thinks that Cambodia is only for the Khmer people but he is dead wrong! We Khmers welcome anybody! I love Muslim religion even though am an Atheist! More Muslim means better for Cambodia!

  • @brooklynmonk1 Hey Antonio! I noticed on wiki it say's that the Khmer make u 90 percent of the population????? I wonder who gave them that percentage! So that means the Cham, Chinese, Vietnamese make the rest of the 10 percent lolz1 This is absurd!

  • @khmerpreah401 Yeah that is the government number. if i take data from the minorities themselves, the Cham are already almost 10% of the population and the Chinese are about 15 or more percent. think about it. there more than a million Cham and and just in phnom penh about 30-40% of local people are Chinese.

  • @brooklynmonk1 The Chinese population in Cambodia probably range from 1-3 million! I find it hard to believe how the population jump from 6 million to 14 million in just 30 years after the Khmer rouge killed nearly 2 million people out of a population of 6-7 million people! It just doesn't make sense! When China complete their railway train system from Guangxi to Phnom Penh via Vietnam there will be even more Chinese immigrants to the country!

  • @brooklynmonk1 I hope the Cham population continues to grow larger and larger and maintain their language and culture! I hope one day Cambodia can become a multi-ethnic country! I encourage the practice of Muslim religion in Cambodia! After all, Cambodia used to be an Islamic country when one of the Khmer king married a Malaysian Princess! But it only lasted 5 years!

  • @562long Wow ! You're ignorant aren't you ? FYI, Islam has always encourage Muslims to work, work and work. To develop themselves, to educate themselves. 1 of the Pillars of Islam is giving Zakat - so if you're poor, you cannot give Zakat.. You must have money in order to give zakat. Also, Islam says the hand which gives is better than the hand which receives and that God loves a Muslim who at the end of the day is tired from having been working all day long. You need to educate yourself.

  • Cham ,Indonesia ,malaysia.thai, filliphine, fiji, madagascar, vanuatu, brunnei ,moro etc .... we are Austronesian brother :)

  • You Cambodia should treat Cham people equal.

  • @tungchankiet WE TREAT THE CHAM LIKE ANY OTHER GROUPS! AS A MATTER OF FACT! I DON'T EVEN MIND IF WE CONVERT CAMBODIA INTO AN ISLAMIC COUNTRY! This is coming from a Khmer Buddhist!

  • I am cham from cambodia, I was born in compongchnang. I am a christian.

I believe in Jesus as my Lord and my God (allah).

  • @rony23ify But yet Jesus will not recognise you since Jesus came only for the lost sheep of Israel ( Hebrews ). Jesus' teachings are not for non-Jews. And Jesus will not accept you worshipping him as God since Jesus said in the Bible, more than 70 times, that " I am the Son of Man". Can you show me where in the Bible where Jesus says to worship him as God ?

  • @FareezLovesMe And he(Jesus) Said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mar. 16: 15-16.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Is 9: 6

My Dear brother, I can not show you the answer. Only God

  • @rony23ify And Jesus also said that " I am not send except to the lost sheep of Israel. " and it is recorded in the Bible that when a Gentile woman asked Jesus for help and Jesus refused, Jesus justified it by saying " Do you throw bread crumbs to the dogs ? " Therefore, the verses you quoted have to be understood in the light of these verses - that is " the every creature " refers to every Jew for the message of Jesus is only for them.

  • @rony23ify In that case, Jesus had contradicted himself - so which is it ? Was his message for the Lost Sheep of Israel or for the world ? What we have here is yet another contradiction in the Bible. Indeed, if Jesus did say to preach to the world, then why he himself didn't preach to the non-Jews who were living amongst him ? Among his disciples, who was a non-Jew ? Why then did he refuse to help the Gentile woman, likening her to an animal, if indeed his message is for everybody ?

  • A friend of mine told me that chams are pretty much Malaysian. She said that they are the same. I disagreed with her. I really did not understand what she meant by it...it makes no sense. I mean, how in the world are they the same? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @kushinbou the cham are ethnic Malay and the language is similar

  • @brooklynmonk1 In that case, can a Cham person claim that they're Malaysian instead then and vice versa? Because that's what my friend was implying.

  • @kushinbou Under the Malaysian constitution, all people can claim full rights of Malay citizenship if they: 1. speak Malay, 2. are ethnic Malay, and 3. Speak Malay language. Using that definition many Cambodian Cham have moved to Malaysia and have obtained residency or citizenship. Vice versa doesn't work.

  • @brooklynmonk1 What's the population of Chams in Cambodia now? Do you know!

  • @khmerpreah401 the official number is really small, but most independent counts put the number at about a million to a million and a half.

  • @brooklynmonk1 ^^ wow that's alot! I have a question? This is A BIG IMPORTANT QUESTION EVERY KHMER WANTS TO KNOW! What is the overall population of the Chinese in Cambodia? It can't be 350,000! I don't believe it at all! This is just bullshit from the government!

  • @khmerpreah401 The government number is laughable. There are at least one million Chinese in Cambodia, but the number might be a lot higher. it also depends who you count as Chinese, but most estimates say, at least 5% of the population, and in Phnom Penh, if you take actually Chinese speaking, plus people whose grandparents are Chinese, it is about 60%.

  • @brooklynmonk1 1 million Chinese is still laughable! The Chinese have been living in Cambodia for thousands of years and there number is 1 million?? Can you tell me why the government always lie to us about the population of minorities! Khmer will one day be minorities in their own land! Take a look at PP right now! Everything is turning into a Chinese!

  • @brooklynmonk1 They are like Malays by appearance but their language (Champ) is different. I could not speak in Malay with them recently, but fortunatlely I got help from people who migrated to Malaysia or those study in Madrasah in Malaysia or Pattani. What makes them looked like Malays is their faith, Islam.

  • @awmr2008 I think it is illogical to say that the Chams look like Malays because they, like the Malays, are Muslims. This is like saying, anybody who is a Muslim will look like a Malay. The correct thing to say is that the Chams look like Malays because both groups are related ; not because the Chams are Muslims. Indeed, Balinese look Malay but they are Hindus and many Filipinos look Malay but they are Christians - therefore the 'Malay Look " has nothing to do with religion but science.

  • @FareezLovesMe It's a fact, the Cham ARE ethnic MALAY. And that is one of three reasons why they are granted citizenship in Malaysia. They are of the Malay race. please do some research before posting here. The Filipinos are also ethnic Malay. You don't seem to know very much about Asia, but you have a lot of opinions.

  • @brooklynmonk1 To be honest! I been to Cambodia and I get sick and tired of seeing only Buddhist shrines! I want to see more Mosques built in Phnom Penh!

  • @brooklynmonk1 Well, the term Malay could be generic & specific. General in the sense that it groups all related peoples including Minangs, Javanese, Cebuanos & yes Chams. Specific in the sense that the term Malay or Melayu refers to the Malay group indigenous to the Malay peninsula, southern Thailand, Singapore, Riau islands and parts of Sumatra. Therefore, when I say related, I meant in reference to the specific group, not general. Generally, yes the Chams are Malays.

  • @FareezLovesMe

I think he meant that Cham is related to the Malay language that is spoken in Malaysia and Indonesia. They are all Austronesian langauges in the same Western Malayo branch.

  • I am Khmer. For generations, our Khmer King was very generous to Cham people. Our king even gave a mountain at Odong to Cham so they can practice their religion. I personally climbed up to that mountain and met the Cham priest. The only time that Cham suffered was under the Pol Pot's regime. Not only the Champ, but Khmers were also suffered as well.

Since Cham have lived in the kingdom of Cambodia a long time, the Khmer government accept them as a Khmer, we call them Khmer Islam.

  • The Angkorian Empire participated in many battles against the Chams, however they did not conquer the Champa Kingdom, it was the Vietnamese who eventually annexed all of Champa Kingdom.

  • The Chams fled and sought refuge in Cambodia, after the last annexation of Champa Kingdom by Vietnam. Chams suffered just like Khmer Krom people under the Vietnamese, they settled in Cambodia in an area later named Kampong Cham.

  • But they're speaking Khmer in this video. Not Cham.

  • Yes they are speaking Khmer in the video because my translator is khmer. i will do another video later with them speaking cham.

  • the cham will one day rule again.

  • We hope..

  • This is a great video. Thank you so much for sharing. I am Cham and have family in Kampung Cham, Phnom Penh and Pursat... When did you make this video?

  • I'll appreciate if u let me know the province name of that place...

  • @tuberegina08

    Kampong Cham Province of cambodia

  • hi i am Cham. I will be visiting Cham Villages in Cambodia and Vietnam.

  • Wow cham people
