I have a Cockatoo. And one of my relatives put on gloves and held the bird. I was wondering if I can hold my bird with my bare hands. Do you really need a towel to do it? - FaithAngel1000
You can hold a bird with your bare hands, there is nothing wrong with that. The towel is more a tool to protect yourself a little and when using the towel it will often times lay over their eyes so they are slightly less stressed (although its difficult to reduce the stress in this situation). Once you have hold of the bird, you want to wrap the towel around the bird so their wings cant flap this will help avoid injury to your bird and make the procedure far easier.
What kind of parakeet? Budgie, cockatiel, conure, lovebird, ringneck, ect? If you mean budgie, you don't have to worry about restraining them, their bites don't hurt much. just let them step up onto your finger by putting pressure on their chest. If they're really wild, pick them up gently, but grasping around them.

@MrWho142 if you have any medical concerns regarding your bird we recommend you take it to a local vet.
