@brocki0880 dude i love imports as much as the next guy, but when it comes to drag racing, Americans are king, WE love speed and like it as soon as we step on the pedal, the thing about dog shit V8s is the emence amount of torque, even small 289s produce just as much torque as they do HP if not more. a 460 is all torque, imports cant do that, a 2jz-gte hardly breas 320 with TTs and skylines too with 10lbs. a blown 5.4 V8 has 550, and a blown 6.2 has over 600 at a mere 8-10lbs. do the math idiot

The only reason the V8s are doing it is from sheer cubes, not efficiency or real high end performance.

No dought the V8s are quicker but only due to have ALOT more cubes. Get the jap technology in 500 + cubic inches and the american 2 valve motors wouldn't get a look in. PS. there's quite a few 6 second jappas, in fact a friend here runs 6.40s @ 224mph in a door car with less than 200ci, you HAVE to respect that.

@RIPSNZ theres alot mor than just 16 valves now, ford mainly runs 32 valves now. i congradulate you but i always felt a V8 will be more reliable. especially when powered up. and i do respect all cars that have been modded to be faster than stock. but i may be wrong, but in all reality, its all about personal prefference. if im gonn adrag race, i will go with a V8, if im gonna corner, a light nimble car, and if i would drift, well lets just say ill do it with anything thats RWD lol

@BYCURE213 For sure, each to their own I just think alot of V8 guys (not yourself) don't really realise just how good the jap stuff can be especially for their size. 2000+hp from under 200ci with straight 6s is common place now and even my 182ci 6cyl on petrol 60fts and 330s quicker than the same chassis did with a 500in blown alky big block (same weight too) we just lose out from 1/2 track due to the huge top end the turbo wants to make and we have traction issues the blown V8 didnt have.

@BYCURE213 You are right, no question about it because thats all thats been at the top end of the sport so far, keep in mind even these "big power" V8s (other than top fuel) arn't really making "that" much hp/ci compared to some pretty basic jap motors, 7-8hp/ci on petrol is not uncommon from 180-200ci and yet even the best top alcohol V8s are only around those numbers so it shows how good they really are. In the mean time, I am also very impressed with the big american TT v8s. take it easy.

My only point was, for the size of the engine, per cubic inch, these big turbo 2 valve V8s are still making quite conservative hp per cubic inch compared to what is very easy and reliable with a jap 4 valve. I run a fully water cooled street motor on petrol at 7-8hp per cubic inch (low 7s on the 1/4 with 182 cubic inch) and a friend is up around 11hp per cubic inch on alcohol (low 6s 225+mph on the 1/4 with 220cubic inch)

Anyway, don't get me wrong, I LOVE these big turbo V8s, I'd just love to see a real modern spec 4 valve V8 with a decent amount of cubes, would be incredible what could be done I'm sure.
