I've read that the Japanese were going to surrender soon since they realised the war would be lost, but I've also read that Truman and his closest were pretty ignorant of the implications of using an atomic bomb. Of course the US wanted to protect her hegenomy and so on. Today the US is also closely tied and allied with both Germany and Japan, certainly economically.

I totally agree that civilian casualties were taken on both sides with great despair. However, the difference between attacking 1 harbour and 2 cities is of completely different scale. Also, the Japanese army was already crushed from the Pacific Campaign. Germany and Italy had already conceded.

Yeah. It was an option amongst many others. I've read that the Japanese were going to surrender soon since they realised the war would be lost, but I've also read that Truman and his closest were pretty ignorant of the implications of using an atomic bomb. Of course the US wanted to protect her hegenomy and so on. Today the US is also closely tied and allied with both Germany and Japan, certainly economically.

It did not save hundereds of thousands of Japanese lives, it snuffed them out in an instant, there were 6 months of continuous bombings that did not shake the emperors resolve, it took 2 atomic bombs and the deaths of a quarter million people in a matter of days for them to surrender, and the US was prepared to drop more.
They targeted cities..not military instalations..to demoralize the enemy..the enemy surrendered and the USA sent in a FORCE TO TAKE OVER...even after peace was declared.

Sure, it took innocent Japanese lives with it, but as a whole, it actually saved thousands more. Had the US chosen to invade on the ground, there would've been more lives lost. I totally agree that civilian casualties were taken on both sides with great despair. However, the difference between attacking 1 harbour and 2 cities is of completely different scale. Also, the Japanese army was already crushed from the Pacific Campaign. Germany and Italy had already conceded.

Too bad it was necessary to use the A-bomb, but if Japan had developed the bomb first you know darn well they would have used it! Yes, war is hell. well for a relatively small country like japan i think they put out a good fight for their emperor. Anyway japan wouldn't be the superpower it is today if it weren't for those chain of events. if it didnt happen i think japan would be what north korea is today technologically outdated and slave worshipers to their leader. in the end can't we all just get along hehe =)

Japan was also researching the atomic bomb during WWII. If only Japan had it first, do you know how many lives that would save. China would be liberated and so too would korea and the Sovient Union, maybe even America. Japan is a noble country, too many lies were put on Japan in order to make Japan look bad.

i think the bomb is justified, just, becoz it ended the war, and a lot more people would of died if the war had carried on, than the bomb kill count, i guess. and i do suppose japan would of done it to america if they would of had the bomb, but then again wuld that of been such a bad thing?

That's absolutely unprovable. The bombings were totally insane and inhumane. The whole thing is ludicrous. The U.S. was imperialistic for taking over Hawaii. Why should a chain of islands in the middle of the Pacific be part of the U.S. anyway? It was purely a military strike on Pearl Harbour, nothing about killing civilians. And Americans whine about imperialism and terrorism? Ha!

The Japanese really need to stop hating on America about this. America warned Japans Emporer a numerous amount of times before AND after the hiroshima bombing. The Japanese Government DID NOT care about their people, all they cared about was keeping up with the U.S., they didn't care how many of their civilians died. Don't believe me? Go do some research. Hundreds of thousands were killed in the invasion of Normandy and Europe. The emporer of Japan was determined to win at all costs or have his nation destroyed in the processes. An Invasion of Japan would have prolonged a seemingly neverending war, Cost the Alieds and Japaneese millions of casalties and completely destroyed the Japan. Not to mention Stalin poised to clam her for the USSR.

I think U.S. could only use first nukes without hesitation coz just other nations hadn't nukes except U.S. at the time.
And probably they were able to get valuable data of the results.
If nuke was not existing at the time, they were not able to use it.
In fact they have never used it after that.
