  • Arcade Fire playing this song live is the only thing that ever made me cry in public. I was front row, right in front of Régine. I woudn't be ashamed if she saw it.

  • from the Israeli song America by Barry Sakharof from 1990

  • @dinury1 HA! It does share a couple notes of a melody, that is funny as hell. Interesting.

  • that is a stolen tune

  • the shiznet

  • @soloskywalker78 No, this is not "the shiznet," whatever that may be. This is Arcade Fire, the most shiznittin' band on the planet.

  • How do they keep producing classic song after song and album after album...from the first on funeral tunnels neighbourhood (Go 2 rock en seine for probably their best live performance of that masterpiece) right through to sprawl 11 at the end of the suburbs...(yeah i know the suburbs continued is the last track)They are certain to go down in history as definitely the best band of our generation by a mile....They just have so much class and enthusiam....just absolutely sublime....

  • Just think of all the layers that went into this song!

    Just voices would be awesome

    Just instrumental would be awesome

    LOVE

  • i am a huge arcade fire fan , and for some reason , stupidly i would always skip this song when listening to the album . i dont know why and now i have finally heard it and it is probably my favorite off the album now .

  • this song is in my list top 10 2010

  • favorite song on the album

  • Anyone else read Half Life 2 first?

  • @basisti94 Every time I talk about Half Life I accidentally say Half Light. It almost makes me feel ashamed.

  • I love shoegazing genre. Arcade Fire is not a shoegazing band. Anyway, somehow they achieve this song, to me the best shoegaze song ive listened in a long long time. This band is a blessing.

  • Some people say we've already lost, but they're afraid to pay the cost ... pay the cost for what we've lost.

    This is sheer, musical brilliance.

  • i don't really think they are that comparable to the beatles, they are too unique...we have never seen a band like this. I think in 10 years people will be waiting for the next arcade fire to pop up...

  • @RHfresh c'mon man theres nothing more unique than the beatles... u've heard i am the walrus right ;P but i agree this band is lik a breath of fresh air :D total creativity. their perfection and uniquness remind me of the beatles and pinkl floyd actually

  • Lol forget about U2. Arcade Fire's albums keep getting better. They can be crowned as the next Beatles after few more albums. We're finally gonna have the next Beatles guys. And this time for real.

  • Why does the basic rhythm and the way he sings this song sound so much like social distortion- ball and chain (slower, but still) !?!

  • This is definitely my favourite album... I love this song! (:

  • wow you all spend your time commenting instead of actually listening to the music xD

  • This is currently my favorite off the album

  • awesome song ! awesome album (the suburbs) ! awesome band ! Arcade Fire 4ever !

  • Epic song!!!

  • Even In The Half Light

  • the other good song

  • Song of the year

  • My favorite song on the album. The whole thing is great. Not a bad song on it

  • like what The Horrors couldn't do with Primary Colours.

  • An Israeli song from 1990 that sounds the same...

    watch?v=Qgycwbvpr44

  • @re777us -- You're right, the verse sounds quite similar. Close tempo and same chord progression. This 1-5-4 progression is actually a very common song construction.

  • This is the 'rebellion' and 'no cars go' of the new album. XD

  • The whole album is somewhat of a slow burner. There isn't really any major standouts like there was in Funeral (Wake Up, Rebellion) but there isn't one bad song in the whole album. They just keep sounding better and better with repeated plays. Very good.

  • @RunePyrite

In my opinion, Sprawl II is VERY strong and stands out. But overall, 'The Suburbs' does flow well (like Neon Bible) but does it better. lol

  • @RunePyrite I couldn't agree more :o

  • @RunePyrite you think so....i thought this song was a standout when i first heard it....as with Ready to Start and Sprawl 2

  • @RunePyrite

    What about Tunnels?

  • @RunePyrite really because i thought Suburbs (the song) was absolutely amazing, along with We used to wait and Rococo!

  • @RunePyrite That's somewhat agreeable. The songs that stand out don't stand out as much as the ones in Funeral. But Month of May and Ready To Start damn sure lit a fire in me.

  • @RunePyrite

I gotta disagree with you there. I think The Suburbs is just as good as Funeral and Neon Bible. This song being the best of the album. Suburban War, Month of May, Empty Room, Roccoco, Sprawl II, and We Used to Wait are all incredible.

  • @RunePyrite I can sorta see what your saying here, but I have to disagree. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

  • @RunePyrite True. Perhaps The Sprawl II has a hit potential. The rest of the album indeed fits this description.

  • @RunePyrite The Suburbs, Suburbs Continued, Sprawl II and Half Light I are standouts for me. The album definitely doesn't have a bad song.

Arcade Fire doesn't have a bad song. :)

  • it reminds me of Stay (Faraway, So Close) by U2 but a billion times better. It's impossibly beautiful

  • @cheezeontoast4 U2 SUCKS!

  • @hotpinkmullet U2 is epic

  • @hotpinkmullet Forget about the 2; U suck

  • @hotpinkmullet U2 are one of the 6 legends of modern music. The other 5 being Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, and Radiohead. Fact, get over it. So if you don't like them its your own loss.

  • @5oulPower I think this is your very own personal opinion. I have no doubt you have it well justified though

  • @freymaroto lol. Well yeah... It is my personal opinion but also a generally known fact... I was only stating the obvious. I mean, on those 6 being the legends of modern music, even you would not doubt it too right?

  • @5oulPower I wouldn't doubt it, but I guess they're not the only six legends. I mean, what about the Stones? and Floyd? and Madonna? Bob Dylan?

I guess a lot of people would include Madonna and forget Led Zeppelin, or take Michael Jackson out and include the Rolling Stones, Elvis or Dylan for example

  • @freymaroto yeah I listen to those artists too... And I do agree that they're all influential in a big big way... But if had added all those artists to any list of legends, it would take several pages! There're just hundreds of them. Don't get me wrong though, I had to fight the urge to include them too. (I would like to include The Sex Pistols too!) But I had to condense them and only include the greats among the greats. The cream OF the cream. Those 6 are, IMO the most notable of the lot.

  • @5oulPower I love how you miss out the entirety of punk. Because they are so irrelevant. All you've done is listed artists you like... It is not fact... They may be legends, but they are not the only legends. This band is pretty damn legendary.

  • @000DarkNite000 yeah... I know they aren't the only legends. But like I said in my previous post, I only chose the 6 most notable ones.

And yes, what I've done is listed all the artists I like. But then again I'm extremely open in music so the artists I like (and there're millions of them!) generally encompass the whole of music.

Most importantly, I know my music. I know what I'm talking about when I post my posts. And I know what I'm writing when I listed those 6.

  • @5oulPower It depends what you mean by notable. If you mean influential, then the rolling stones would be there in place of radiohead. Though radiohead is one of the greatest bands of all time, it is too contemporary to have had the impact that the rolling stones had. If you mean good, well, I don't think michael jackson can be placed anywhere near the beatles. I enjoy his music, but in the end it was just shallow pop. There are far better artists. So what are your criteria?

  • @000DarkNite000 I meant good. The reason i don't list influential is because there're some artists who're influential but make lousy music. And about MJ not making it if I meant good... That depends on your opinion of him. I used to think he wrote good, albeit shallow pop songs too. But not anymore. Somehow I appreciate him more now and I finally saw how deep and timeless his music actually is... Give yourself some more time and maybe you'll think the same. :-)

  • @5oulPower

U2 are no way near the standard of The Rolling Stones, Dylan, Elvis etc. So out of place in a list of 'legends' alongside Zep and Radiohead. Not even in the same league...

  • @hotpinkmullet you are correct. Hence why I said a billion times better

  • It feels as though one needed to have lived in the 1980's to appreciate the nostalgic quality of this song.
