  • theres a good hint of the irish convicts from donegal in this song, when the penalty for stealing a loaf of bread was to be sent to australia, never to return.

  • i always new that there are angels in this wrld and now i know it fore sure!!!!

  • Mirusia Louwerse and Andre Rieu are always magnificent musicians, and I love to listen to everything they perform. Their interpretation is creative and gripping. It's no wonder they are admired and appreciated my millions around the world. They speak our language of the heart. I read the Rieu speaks six languages, and when he speaks before or after his music, it lifts my spirit, as does Mirusia with her sweet, humble, genuineness. Keep it up, both of you.

  • an angel amongst us, beautiful girl. xxx

  • I love this song it keeps me relaxed and i always sing it.I l remember when i was 6 i used to sing it.

  • I never really thought ot this as a 'sad' song before - but this is absolutely beautiful and quite poignant. Wonderful performance, Mirusia.

  • Wish I can listen to her live... i bet i'll be bawling my eyes out through out the whole concert

  • The entire DVD is amazing but Mirusia's sensitive rendition of this song was so moving. What a beautiful voice.

  • mirusia has got to be the best soprano in the world..

her voice is fantastic.... just superb. MrPerthlD

  • 3 dislikes?!?

go listen to your lady ga-goop ... idiot

  • AMAZING

  • Simply awesome!

  • AWESOME

  • As I understand it, (I am Dutch, so forgive my ignorance), it's a song about a ship, which is heading for Australia and leaving the old homeland, England.

Does every Australian know this song? Nice song, by the way!

  • @Geense1963 we all learnt it at school in grade 1 (50 years ago) but don't know if they still teach it

  • she's one of the reasons why i say that god exists!

  • Beautiful!

  • amazing composure and control of her voice

  • ACESTI OAMENI MINUNATI ,BRAVO ANDRE RIEU

  • This is absolutely beautiful. At 1:11, what is that guy playing? A special kind of piccolo? It sounds awesome.

  • This has got to be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.

  • @Brenniman65 With the most beautiful voice I've ever heard :D

  • ME RA VI GLIO SA!!! INCANTEVOLE... DOLCE... SINUOSA, TRAVOLGENTE, DELICATA, BELLA, PACIFICA, RILASSANTE, CONFORTEVOLE, DIVINA!!! IMPAREGGIABILE!!! :-)))))

  • The last part of the song is higher than I knew she could sing with that ease without resorting to "falsetto" (ie head voice in technical terms). I'd like to hear her sing a high C and see how she approaches it

  • @mcgintythegreat very well said! Thank you!

  • This song is one of the best that Mirusia Louwerse sings. I just love it. Andre Rieu and his JSO are so inspirational. I love all his music and went to his Live concert in South Africa last year and will be going again this year. And one thing i must add, its well worth all the money for the ticket. I will pay ANYTHING to hear him

  • perfrkt

  • @paulwojciechowski And seeing it, too.

  • Listen to Mirusia is hearing an angel sing.

  • awsome !!!!

  • perfekt

  • the father of Mirusia Louwerse is a dutch people

  • seems the voice of God soo beautifull

  • why is she calling ozzy osbourne :P

  • Is this the Australian national anthem?

  • @TheBlindPig1 No, it isn't the national anthem. It's an old Australian folk song about the first convicts that came to Australia; the First Fleet's planned destination was a place called Botany Bay, but when they arrived they found it to be an unsuitable place to set up a colony so they moved closer to modern-day Sydney.

  • this beautiful young lady *OOZES* CLASS XXX

  • Merveilleuse musique, merveilleuse voix!

  • Mirusia, Carmen Monarcha, Andre Riu certainly has introduced 2 of the worlds greatest singers to us all. Who is next? If only Suzan Erens was still with him. What a trio those 3 ladies would make. Anyone not heard Suzan sing "Don't cry for me Argentina" listen now. I have heard over the years many fine singers perform this song but Suzan's is outstandingly the BEST ever. I hope you agree

  • @swaffham11 Andre Rieu has already found the next one. Listen to the Ave Maria sung by the South African soprano Kimi Skota with Andre on his South African tour.

  • great voice :) one of my relatives that i have never met... not even knew about till today

  • LOS ANGELES ESTAN CON NOSOTROS

  • Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi!

  • I don't usually speak in superlatives, but Mirusia's is quite possibly the loveliest female voice I have ever heard. I think that she could sing the phone book, and it would sound like a choir of angels. Absolutely delightful

  • @aqua600 i do agree with you

  • She looks like Kate Hudson

  • Oh I wanna kiss her.

  • she went to my school wtf shes seeing with andre! WOW!

  • I am an Aussie and I sang this song at school 40 years ago. I have 4 children now and I was shocked that they have never heard this song before. My GG grandparents were convicts.

  • So do i x

  • i love it

  • That is the best singing voice I've ever heard.

  • Very beautiful song and beautiful voice.

  • @void1962 It takes intelligence to appreciate real talent. That's why Lady Gaga is so popular. The world lacks intelligence. Mirusia Louwerse can only be appreciated by people who knows talent and beauty.

  • ahhh music :)

  • What is the song about ???

  • @udon890 - When the convicts were being sent to Australia, at times torn from their families & loved ones, really very sad and having to spend 6 months in the bowels of a prison ship.

  • @webaroos And the vast majority never returned home. Being told you were going to Australia (or New Holland) in the 18th century would be like going to the moon in the 21st. It was a greatly feared punishment to be deported on a convict ship...only a little less feared than being hung/

  • Mirusia...........Just beautiful.

    Santa Doug

  • You know Andrea... when your finsihed with our little dove... you have to send her back home to us!!!

  • Amazing....

This song embodies our national identity a heck of a lot more than that monstrosity of a national anthem "Advance Australia Fair", and probably more than waltzing matilda.

  • Gyönyörű művésznő ékszer minőségű hanggal istenáldotta hanggal rendelkezik Kedvencem lett!

  • @void1962 Because obviously truly talented people are no longer wished by the big crowds... :-(

  • There's some irony singing Botany Bay in a diamond necklace.

  • sorry about the thumbs downers but i thought it was SENSATIONAL. xxx

  • She has missed the whole point to the song like Mariah Carey singing the Sex Pistols.

  • beautiful voice.. talented singer with great depth..

but i'm sure the fleet boys would be turning in their grave hearing this... no disrespect

  • Dios mio...creaste la musica..por eso te alabooo y te admiro....qe placer poder escuchar este video....

  • (: She's So Pretty!!! and her voice is so majestic >:D

  • I LOVE YOU MIRUSIA

  • why audiences are almost old people

  • @qlldominic: I am old myself but I agree with you. Only a few minutes ago I happened to see Mirusia Louwerse on German TV and I said to my wife: "Why don`t young people like that kind of music?"

  • @Toringo6 I usually ask myself Why I don't like rap music but classic

  • @qlldominic Because most of young people are scared to be judged by someone else about classic music or they don't like it. Mostly this kind of music will be appreciated when people getting older.

  • @AirlineAviation I agree with you. I like opera but sometime I fear to tell the truth to my friend.

  • This lady is simply one of the best. Thank you Andre for bringing this beautiful music to us.

  • Thank you Andre for sharing this wonderful music with us.

  • @void1962 how do you know she's not miming?

  • que hermoza dama

  • Great song, performance, words. The poetry is beautiful, meaningful, and touching.

  • Great voice!!! this song is beautiful and Mirusia is a very very nice woman.

    André Rieu THE BEST!

  • PRECIOSA CANCION Y MUSICA ¡¡¡

  • @void1962, I too wish Mirusia sings more opera. In "Porgi amor" she makes all the best divas we loved suddenly look old, cold or mannered (even the wonderful Elisabeth Schwarzkopf or Lucia Popp!). No other Countess breaks your heart like Mirusia.

    Tue 03 Aug 2010 22:15 GMT

  • I found this song and Mirusia by a fluke. As a German I never happend to hear this song before nor did I know Mirusia. I only knew Andre Rieu and all my prejudice against his kind of music.

I think this songs and the way she interprets it is wonderful. Just gorgeous! It makes me wanna go to Hamburg, get a ship there (well preferably first class ^^) and sail for Sydney. Singing too-ral, li-ooral, li-addity.....

  • I love her voice and I love Paulina Caine's voice...both beautiful and very talented ladies! :)

  • The best of the music and the very nice lady...

  • not Rolf but she'll do!

  • I thought that was a mole on her cheek. * ( It's a bloody mike)*

  • wow she's really good! The way she looks reminds me of Romola Garai.

  • Beautiful voice and the music.....A DREAM! Lady Mirusia is very pretty. ALL PERFECT!

  • What can you say.................Beautiful

  • omg omg!!! i sooo love this song!!! this is my very favourite aswell...

and of course i love it cuz i am an Aussie!!!

    aussie aussie aussie!!!

    oi oi oi!!!

  • André has a very good nose to combine quality with beauty . Just look at all the members of his orchestra. Fenominal !! Murisia is the icing on the cake and she

    speaks dutch as well ...

  • @wum902 Indeed he has! Murisia has the personal touch in her singing ....three cheers for the man on the Generation whistle...E flat...Mary Bergin eat your heaart out!!

  • WONDERFUL!!!!A DREAM!!!!

  • very nice voice !

  • This is proof that what brings people together as a country and a people isn't war or catastrophe- it's music and love. She is one of the most talented singers I've ever seen, and I live in Vienna- she's astounding!! I can't wait to see her someday.

  • we saw the show in melbourne it was fantastic,Mirusia has the most beautiful voice. aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi

  • Aussie, Dutch of German (of other )...this song is wonderfull en she is a great singer !!!!!

  • doesnt matter who sings the song. it is what it is. its australian and lets not forget the anzacs today. all others can get knotted, today is our day.

  • What a voice, what a talent. To take an old song like that and turn it into a masterpiece. She is a great credit to Australia and to the world.

  • Orignal better it sounds a hell of alot better

  • your obviously not an Aussie........

Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi oi oi !

  • @petrus4 whats wrong with that chant??????????????? If you aren't Australian you dont understand so dont comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @annamarron I do live in Australia; and the degree of racism you're responding with here, is exactly what I'm talking about.

"If you're not one of us, we hate you."

  • its a very nice voice, Mirusia

    Greetings from Germany

  • damnyou people just enjoy this song

it doesent mather iff is a folk song or not

the also played the macarena on the end that why André Rieu is loved by many different people he made the step to the opera easier to (normal) people

stop talking haver and enjoy or pis off

  • right, right!

  • Wat is je probleem klojo

  • Get over yourself!!

  • excuse me, In grade 2, 4 and 7 I was dressed as convicts, covers in dirt, ripped clothes singing it as if I were on a boat to a land I had no idea about. YOU WOULDN'T BE SINGING OPERA!!

My opinion, which I am entitled 2!

  • Okay, no worries! But to be fair, It isnt a folk song, its a sea shanty, and this isnt an opera, its merely being sung in soprano, and theres a very large Aussie crowd there enjoying it a hell of a lot! But no worries, i'm not that bothered anyway lol!.

  • thanks, we all hav dif opinions, i dont mind this version, but i prefer the rackety version alot mor!

  • In the time when nations still had some individuality, when we weren't all mere pawns of America; there was some good, and much uniqueness, in Australia.

I was born in the country, but for some reason I've always felt like an expatriate; I do not truly belong here, but it has, in many ways, been an extremely beneficial place in which to rest my head.

  • para quem gosta de música de primeira, tem que apelar . não tire está coisa maravilhosa de nossas vidas de internautas.

  • just wonderful- ich hear it every day. sweet woman, sweet title, sweet voice.

  • Increible La verdad esta musica hace emocionar a cualquiera quede sorprendido y admirado por la musica y por todo lo que hace Andre dichosa la gente que puede ir a tremendo recital, gracias Andre Gracias gracias .........

  • i am duch and i am proud!!!!

  • You can have your arguments against Rieu's musical interpretations. But look at the number of people who dig it and are willing to pay >$200 to be there. Rieu has succeeded to make classic music (and some new songs of heritage) a massive spectacle. He deserves every award that is appropriate. Who gave this young soprano the chance of her life to sound all over the globe? And all those dancers from the Vienna scene? And the ice dancers?

Thank you Andre for your perception.

  • @levensregt

how to find an AUssie in a million? Ozzy ozzy Ozzy!!!!!!! Love it!

  • I liked the look on Andre's face after they did the cheer. When she left the stage Andre was like "I didn't know that song." That was funny.

  • i would love to be able to get the sound on andre rieu videos but no matter what i do the sound just comes and goes can some one help cheers from oz

  • Bravo, well-done.

  • didnt read all the posts here but... Is the lyrics meant to be " Fairwell to old Scotland/Ireland forever"... just for the record though, WHAT AN AMAZING VOICE!!!!!

  • "Farewell to old England forever" -is the original.

  • 0.49 it's a LOL

    tremendous voice though!

  • iff i have the money she can wake me up every morning !!!!!!!!!! what a voice!!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting, this is great! I saw Mirusia at an Andre concert in Philadelphia a couple of years ago & was a little disappointed that it wasn't one of the 'regular' girls. But I've been enjoying all the performances of hers I see on youtube.

  • twice a year, every year, i am forced to hear a soprano and it is so horrid i feel like shooting my self in the head, but this is worth not pulling the trigger, great job!

  • She's a Dutch emigre to Australia, no?

  • cosmicdingo - She was born in Brisbane, Australia. She graduated in December 2006 from the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane with a High Destinction and an Academic Achievement Award obtaining a Bachelor of Music in Performance in Classical Voice. In 2006, Mirusia became the youngest ever winner of the Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award

  • her parents emigrated to Australia from the Netherlands, she;s born there

  • I have discovered this singer on Youtube today, and am looking forward to hearing more.

  • my thoughts: Taylor Swift and Britney Spears would be kicked out immediately......the world would be perfect again....
