My favourite bit is at 1:38 when Mary says ... "well I don't care WHAT people say, this girl's love's getting stronger with each passing day.." She was a great actress in these songs, I think that's what makes them so amazing

@diktatorship Agree. Actually she said in a sort-of fresh interview that she had enough pain in her when she was a teenager, so the drama in her singing voice came very easily.

HIM are my favourite band, and it still annoys me that people a) are so gushing about Villie and b) they only like this song because they used it as an intro. And can the hypocritical people who are saying HIM suck ect please actually listen to them, both HIM and Shangri-Las have sweet melancholy tendencies. Just enjoy the music, especially this song which is just encapsulating.

I remember listening to this in anticipation, expectantly and eagerly, for HIM to come on stage. I loved that night. That night was beautiful. Knowing I would see Ville, his sweet and beautiful face in any second. I only get to see him every couple of years. So every time I see him matters so much to me.

The truth is ladies were phenomenal in their day. People should realize that no female group was singing with this style and tone in 1965. The Shangri La's were cutting edge for their time. They opened the door for a female punk style like Joan Jett, Blondie or Pat Benatar. I also believe that Summer Nights in the movie Grease came out of "Give Him A Great Big Kiss" with the 'tell me more' lyrical idea.

Ville's a big Amy Winehouse fan and came across the Shangri-La's through her. Needless to say they shared a similar theme to HIM in the fact that they sung about the darker, more melancholic side of love.
