This incorporates a few elements that weren't in the MGM movie, but that film is so firmly embedded in our consciousness, some influences from it still manage to seep in. Dorothy and the Lion sound a lot like Judy Garland and Burt Lahr. Also, the Good Witch of the North refers to what should be Munchkin Country as Munchkin Land instead, just like Glinda did in the 1939 film.
@rocketdave i think, thanks to Judy, that is now Dorthy's signature voice cuz when people poke fun of The wizard of oz or new shows or what not she sounds like that
I must also mention how much I *LOVE* Dorothy's voice in this version. She sounds very pure, sweet and innocent on the one hand, but also BOLD, STRONG and independent. Just like L. Frank Baum's original Dorothy.
If anyone knows the name of the actress, please let me know. I have this on DVD, but it doesn't credit the voice actors. I think I could watch it over and over again, just to savour Dorothy's voice.
@Rapture1987 I'm almost positive that it's Laura Summer, who did the voice of Janine Melnitz on The Real Ghostbusters, as Dorothy. Sounds like her and she's trying to mimic a little Judy Garland as well. I'm also pretty sure that's her playing the Good Witch of the North too
It's not a strange adaptation of the story at all. It condenses the book into 26 mins, quite admirably, retaining a number of elements that were cut out in the MGM film (e.g: the Kalidahs, the elderly Good Witch of the North & the young Glinda, the Golden Cap that summons the Monkeys, the Wicked Witch's telescopic eye).
For strange adaptations that are only "worth a few laughs", watch the weird Funky Fables version & the bizarre Korean cartoon (both of which have similar running times).
