I am not Anderson Sylva but he is a great example of how effective striking can be! he know Jits but appears more comfortable on his feet. Sakuraba was way past his prime and known to be a heavy partier at the time of this fight. Sadly, Japanese fighters dont fair very well as they age. Its a tough life. Ralek is a very good representative of Gracie JJ but I would like to see him in other bouts with fighters who are closer to their peaks.
@myksgrl He caught a Kimura and swept then the refs stopped him cos he got his foot stuck in Ralek's shorts and restarted him from a much worse position. I mean of course he lost the rest of the fight upto and after that point, he's completely done, but he deserved to be left to finish that submission.

@1lostinspace The point is that Striking and Wrestling don't always work. You will ALWAYS face someone bigger and stronger than you at some point. Even Brock Lesnar, as huge as he is, went up against Cain whoever and had to use an Arm Triangle to beat him after trying to win by striking.
I like boxing and wrestling and muscling people around also. But when I meet my match physically, I turn back to Jiu-Jitsu and technique. When all else fails, the power of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is undeniable.

Sakuraba was way past his prime and known to be a heavy partier at the time of this fight. Sadly, Japanese fighters dont fair very well as they age. Its a tough life. Ralek is a very good representative of Gracie JJ but I would like to see him in other bouts with fighters who are closer to their peaks.

@myksgrl He caught a Kimura and swept then the refs stopped him cos he got his foot stuck in Ralek's shorts and restarted him from a much worse position. I mean of course he lost the rest of the fight upto and after that point, he's completely done, but he deserved to be left to finish that submission.

@jitteryjoe It doesnt matter who you are, a kimura has a procedure to be completed. Sakuraba could not even come close to finishing the Kimura as my video proved. I dont know if you have any hands on experience in Jiu Jitsu or MMA but I do and so does the my revolving world. Please show any video of ANY one that completed a Kimura in the same or even close to the position Sakuraba was is in. I will say with confidence that you will not be able to provide any such proof to your claim.

@myksgrl Except Sakuraba doesn't normally finish the Kimura, except on Minowa, Renzo and Royler. He normally uses it WITHOUT control of their body to roll them into an armbar.

Even when Sakuraba adjusted himself to a better position he still got rolled over which shows goes against you saying sakuraba uses it without control of their body. @myksgrl How did he get smashed? LIterally nothing eventful happened in that fight. Ralek showed his mediocre stand up against a much smaller guy who shouldn't be fighting anymore. The kimura theory comes from the fact that Sakuraba ROUTINELY lets guys escape the initial kimura attempt to get an armbar.
I'm of the opinion that Sakuraba has been fighting far past his sell by date - but on no level was Ralek Gracie's win impressive. Be honest.
