  • Thanks bro.

  • Unlike the chameleon of the Indonesion mimic Octopus, we have no natrual camoflauge abilities!

  • This r not prono?

  • Wonderpus? That's what he said!

  • it mimicks to get prey(mimics an apparent mate for the sea crab to lure it, etc)and to scare away predators(if it is attacked by a damselfish, it will mimic a sea snake, a predator of the damselfish)

  • watch?v=H8oQBYw6xxc

    It's that one.

  • are you serious?

    this is called batesian mimicry

it does it to copy deadly animals (like the lion fish)so it doesnt get attacked?

  • what is the difference between a mimic octopus and a

    wonderpus?

  • the mimic octopus imitates up to 15 other species, the wonderpus is just a beautifully colored octopus.

  • wunderpus and mimic octopus are 2 different species

  • "the mimic octopus can mimic not only the coloration, but the shapes of other animals - no one is quite sure why it does so. Maybe it just likes to amuse itself by confusing the other reef creatures! "

Er ... or maybe its a defense mechanism? Trying to imitate the appearance of predators, so it itself doesn't get attacked/eaten?

  • Wonderpus Not Wunderpus

  • Wunderpus is actually the genus name (Wunderpus photogenicus): I believe it's an alternate spelling.

  • i bet your mom's an alternate spelling

  • You bet she is.

  • Unshakeable style there ltd. :-)

  • According to Wikipedia, the scientific name of the mimic octopus is Thaumoctopus mimicus.

  • That's correct. The Wunderpus has eyelike markings, not stripes

  • Very nice shot, but:

A Wunderpus is not similar to a Mimic Octopus, they are different kinds.

Try to make a Wunderpus starting mimickry ( spread your hand e.g.), and you´ll run out of air. Because: it would think ( they are quite bright) "What does he want? I am a Wunderpus and no bloody Mimic!"

But your local dive guide should have told you anyway.

  • Good shot, but:

The Wunderpus and the Mimic Octopus are not the same species. A Wonderpus is doing no mimickry (imitating other fish or things).

Try to make a Wunderpus starting mimickry (spread your hand e.g.), and you´ll run out of air. Because it would think " What does he want from me? I am a Wunderpus and no bloody Mimic Octopus!"

  • lol it looks like theres a vaccum cleaner in the hole and the poor guy is gettn sucked in. how eeire

  • It got sucked into a black hole.

  • wunderpus /= mimic octopus.

  • wunderpus (this guy) is a type of mimic octopus

  • @sepiachoice Wunderpus ≠ Mimic octopus

  • what an amazing creature. I really start to not care about what might be on other planets when I see what crazy shit is down below

  • totally agree. This shit amazes me.

  • Cool.
