Sometimes, yeah. It helps to have new strings, as they tend to take the tension a little better than ones that are worn out. I've broken a few strings tuning for this song, though.

do u have tabs for this? i'd love ot learn it! i tried it before but the hammer-ons didnt come out right and the tabs didnt make sense and didnt sound right!
I was looking through all the covers but no one got it quite right, but then I heard yours and it sounds dead on. Can you link to the tabs you used? I can't find any accurate ones.

This is a fake. A good fake, but still a fake. Watch closely. The right hand does not quite match. Left hand is also slow in spots. You may know how to play the song, but the sound we are hearing is not from that guitar.
Excellent, dude! One of the best versions I've heard. As for the string/tuning debate, DADDAD is ok, but doesn't sound quite right. As you say, CGCGGC is a better option. I don't know how many freakin' 3rd's I've broken playing this song.
As a huge Rush fan and novice guitar player I'm always scouring the "Tube" for Rush renditions and this is the best "HOPE" rendition I've heard; GREAT JOB!! Any way of providing a tab for this piece?? I've heard this is NOT standard tuning, is this true??
It's supposed to be DADAAD tuning, though be warned, you put a lot of tension on the 'g' string with this tuning. Unless you have plently of spare strings [which I don't]I would advise tuning to DADDAD. You'll break less strings and it sounds pretty much the same.
Cool, good luck with that. It's not as hard as it sounds once you get into the groove. Admittedly, Alex plays it much better than most people could, but it's not hard to play a cheap imitation. =P
you have to tune the G string(s) up pretty far, don't your strings break? :O

actually instead of that i would advise tuning the guitar down a full step or half a step. that way it is CGCGGC or C#G#C#G#G#C#
