  • In reality the Ukranian people welcomed the nazi's as liberators and themselves strung up the jews for their part in bringing bolshevism.

In former (and later) Stalin territory the populace was happy with the arrival of the German army unlike in the west, because they got authoritarianism instead of totalitarianism and there was no liberty to lose to begin with.

  • @SloterMFmeyer in all Eastern Europe (that part who knew Joseph Stalin methods) welcomed germans as liberators.

In Latvia - germans has been latvian main enemies for centuries, and 7 months of communist intervention (we are calling it "Baigais gads" Nightmare year) was enough to call them liberators - even the germans soldiers were surprised about it.

  • @aabele That is a very interesting comment and I thank you for it. :)

  • @SloterMFmeyer Yes you'r right comrade jews killed ca 10 Millions people in Ukraina, 43 M in Russia 23 M in Germany... now they have abortionsfactotorys every year they kill 55 M, according WHO...88!

  • Life has its ironies......wasn't it this very same Dana Andrews who played the character "Matt Sovetic" in the "I was a communist for the FBI" series on CBS radio back during the Korean and Cold War 1950s? Strange how America gets duped into loyalties forged in Hell then later gives the appearance of switching them while sacrificing tens of thousands of its own troops for less than nothing as they did in Korea and Nam. America will never learn. Right now the drooling Moron Majority shuns RP.

  • jewish propaganda...

  • @nszjaszczur you're a complete idiot for saying that

  • Music by Aaron Copeland. The theme is a well-known Russian folk song. "I travel the vast World."

  • @tigranvartanovitch

And excellent music it is too.

  • wow

  • Germans = GERM HANDS Hitle r was the anti Christ

  • @mearder ??? lol u mad bro

  • Pro Soviet wartime propaganda, made in this country during WW2, when we were allies, showing a falsely positive view of Soviet society that was commonly held by many liberals in the West at the time. Most of them refused to believe how bad things were over there until Alexander Solzhenitsyn published The Gulag Archipelago.

  • good movie, thanks for posting this one.

  • My god, so this movie is where "Fiddler On The Roof" came from! Schlock begets schlock.

  • The North Star? I know just Ronny...

  • And our bloody politicians want us live in German dominated Europe? Those bastard Germans need another kicking; they are getting above themselves yet again. As my father used to say " The only way to control a German is to keep your foot on his neck!

  • @Plymouthpilot

you have the same problem to, but you cant keep your foot on your own neck...

ISNT THIS A GREAT WORLD!!! ^^

  • And you want live in German dominated Europe?

  • Much as one would like to explore the sub-text of this movie, the comments here make me blanche at the prospect more than a Tzarist facing up to Lenin's legions.

  • HOLY CRAP! LONGEST VIDEO EVER ON YOUTUBE HISTORY! :O

  • When I was young most everyone in this movie was denying ever having worked for the Soviet Union. I believed them. I thought they were the victims of McCarthyism and that their high ideals were being criminalized. This movie comes as a shock to me. It is worse than naive, it is a lie from beginning to end. Even the Soviet propaganda ministry would have been more subtle that this bludgeoning of the truth by Lillian Hellman.

  • Yep, it was hokey. But the USSR suffered 20 million dead to the Germans. The US and other allies cannot comprehend the suffering of the Soviet people. Stalin was no angel. He was a bastard. However, we shouldn't judge movies like this by modern standards. It's not fair. Besides, anyone ever see a WWII John Wayne movie? Just as hokey.

  • @Categorycinque Has anyone ever seen a WWII movie from the Glittering Ghetto that wasn't hokeyer than Hell's Icecapades? ....with the dubious exception of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT with Lew Aires and Noah Beery (1940)

  • Hokey, hokey, hokey. When this film played in theaters in 1943, the Japanese had overrun huge areas in the Pacific, and despite American victory at the Battle of Midway, they threatened Australia, Hawaii and Alaska. In Europe, the Germans controlled almost all of Europe, and despite the Russians winning the Battle of Stalingrad, they still held much of Russia. Films like this were meant to persuade young men in the western democracies to risk their lives to stop the Japs and Nazis!

  • You American haters bore me. So much jealousy and anger.

  • @Categorycinque It makes them feel better about themselves and their countries, you know cause it's not like they've been screwing things up for centuries verses our brief time that we've been exposed to history.

  • Pro soviet propaganda celluloid like this was the monotonous bill of fare during the 1940s which should strike no one as surprising since Hollyweird ---the Glittering Ghetto----was as completely controlled by jews then as now. Interesting flick though...kind of a reminder of what we went through back then.

  • @dasUBootVII another idiotic statement Mr. Nazi

  • @zu0832 Yours or mine?

  • resistance of Ukrainian villagers, through guerrilla tactics, against the German invaders of Ukraine is like what happened in south Yemen against the Britain invaders of South .

  • Must've been this film that turned the Good Morning, Vietnam restauranteur on to Walter Brennan.

  • And "just for the record", if I were as stupid and ignorant as you appear to be, I wouldn't take it upon myself to make medical commentary in public.

  • Comment removed

  • ...and just for the record... when you have a lot of iron-in-your-blood... then you will NOT bleed to death... and as for me... I bled very little... or bleed very little... and healed super-quick... ...hmmm... and one more thing... don't you need to make sure the the correct-blood-type would need to be given to another patient? ...hmmm?! ...and why would I steal-blood from kids?! ...becase that would be super-bad-luck... and I think that the Yankee-Americans LIED about it!

  • @marktsheppard I KNOW that the "Yankee-Americans LIED about just about everything then just as they do now....in June of 1941 Roosevelt's Room 14 Lie Factory was churning out the sewage just like the Bush Clinton and obama regimes in this country today---for example, they told us that Hitler was planning to invade South America by sea and burn all of the churches down. Interesting considering that he was a Roman Catholic and couldn't dream up anything better to do with Germany's rapidly

  • ...and this is some of the super-over-the-top Communist propaganda which is is designed to hate me... but at least now... it's educational...

  • hahaha, nu neplohaya potuga no, kone4no ne dotyagivaet, hotya 4e ozhidat' ot amerikosov. I syuda vsunuli fight for freedome! :)))

  • I type in Minna no Peace and this is what i get?

  • I can't watch this without laughing. This is such a great view of Communist propaganda

Lets forget that more of these farmers where murdered by Stalin than by Hilter.

The Soviets aided the Germans in the Invasion of Poland and were still allied in with each other on June 20, 1941

  • Being made closer to the actual source of time, it's no wonder this film is much more vivid and realistic than modern films about World War II. This is much less Hollywood than COME AND SEE, which looks suspiciously like guerilla fighters trying to rationalize their desertion of villagers. This one is much more realistic in the characters, told in a more logical format, and more interesting. Thus, it is a better film.

  • @drystyx, the timing of the film is the most important part of its legacy. Very few films were made at the time about the russian Front with a positive view. After the Cold War settle in the film was barely shown again.

  • @drystyx

I agree. While this film has the 1940's cheesy acting, I really found it better than many war movies and enjoyable to watch because you feel for the characters in their humble setting.

  • So this is how General Waverly got his start, while he still had hair, before he needed help from Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye to keep his inn in business. This explains a lot.

  • My 5 year old nephew could have made a better movie...

  • @jrm21386 LOL

  • @jrm21386 How would your nephew have handled the bombing scene at 0:34:30 and the revenge killing scene at the end
