@AlwaysBe5 haha happened to me when I listened to Alan Watts. I realized how ridiculous some of these philosophers endeavors were. Eventually though, they led me to understand that this ridiculousness is the game of life! Glad to have connected with another person on a similar level.
i am so blessed to hear this man speak in any way shape or form...so intensely full of light, how can anyone deny him..all he wants is LOVE and unity...but he says we MUST believe it in ourselves for it to be true...i wish ppl saw the light instead of the dark
i, (my name) feels responsible for today's suffering. i feel pain & love in all levels. i have experience life, work, leadership, talents, hate, & love for 31 years of my existence on earth. today, i am no longer attached from material gain or goods. i no longer will spend time thinking about small ideas or negative thoughts. i will no longer waste my time at places that does not reflect who i am.
Be careful. It is hard not to depend on K. His words are so profound that watching/reading/listening to him become an escape from the monotony of daily life. Remember "you must be a light to yourself". If you rely on his words you are lost. By all means listen, but the key thing to take away is to watch your thoughts and responses without trying to change them, without concerning yourself with where this will lead, but with the realisation that order can only exist when you don't.
@SteveDutchy If you define love as attachment, then nature shows atomic structures constantly attaching. If you define love as a consciousness beyond duality, than nature helps bring one beyond duality by bringing us death, once dead, there is no duality. If you define Love by a comforting gesture, such as a loving hug, and medical care. Then nature constantly gives us food, air, and many comforts. However, to have love, you must also have its opposite. This is the way of the force.
...that is orderly where thought operates only in the right place, i don't know. Maybe it is an everlasting struggle that thought must constantly watch its own "bad behaviour". The problem is that there are so many distractions in this society (we are educated to acheive or fail), that nobody has ever really tested it. Perhaps i should go for it!
A pyschological death. Is that possible whilst you are alive? A physical death is possible, certainly. But a psychological death whilst you are alive? Is that possible?
@martynblackburn1977 I suspect thought evolved as a tool to assist the brain to aquire physical security. Somehow this has then moved into the psychological field where thought continues to concentrate on security. I think this is a hard wired program that thought can not stop doing. But i also think that thought can look at its own behaviour logically and become fine tuned or sensitive to when its motivations are selfish. Thereby keeping itself in check. Whether this leads ultimately to a brain
That is a part of it, but it is a limited aspect of the situation. Because while thought does assist survival, it is not a necessity. Plants, trees, fruits, vegetables, worms, ameoba's, all are managing well without complex thought processes for the simple reason that the will to survive is a force of it's own. It is not something that requires your logic. The expansion of the mind is simply that life constantly wants to expand itself beyond it's present limitations.
JK is implying that something called the self with all its problems and violence and greedyness can come to an end through understanding and watching without judging. Is he right? In theory it may sound plausible, but in practice that is quite something else.
@martynblackburn1977 Here again, its for you to "to do it" not wether it's a theory on in theory. It certainly isn't something I can watch in myself from a distance psychologically. The problem is words, and especially K's charismatic use.
Is it possible that by the phrase "choiceless awareness" K actually meant to be deliberately aware of your thoughts/feelings but not to do anything about them? If not, then how does a person move from self centered activity to selfless activity? It's surely only possible if you make a deliberate decision to do something about it.
@theadarla No. It is an involuntary awareness; it is supposed to be the space between awareness where there is no self, where the self is looking but not judging or not being aware that it is looking. It is impossible. You can't look without the one who looks, because as soon as you see something a response is triggered in the memory and identification takes place.
@martynblackburn1977 I understand what you are saying and I agree that it is impossible to look without the "me". So what do I do now? K said do nothing, just watch and see what takes place. But who is the watcher? We seem to come to a dead end every time unless you interpret his words differently. I think he meant that we should deliberately watch as i have previously suggested. Otherwise it is impossible.
@theadarla Yes. He did say "do nothing". In that he meant that in an instant all your pyschological baggage should drop, melt away, come to an end, etc, just by watching. Is that really possible? For that to happen something radical and fundamental must take place, the self is disolved. Can that happen? Who has done that? Has JK done that?
@theadarla look without the psychological me-that's all that's being said-and btw it doesn't matter if K is right or wrong- you are still in the same mess looking for an answer before you would do anything. Its like asking "will this water put that fire out ? I don't know, so I'll watch the house burn.
This suggests that we make a concious effort to watch? Maybe K was a one off and for him it was all obvious. Perhaps he couldn't really understand why nobody else managed to change. After 20 years of thinking about what he said but not changing, I am now looking at it from a purely practical point of view. I am making a deliberate effort to watch thought/response in order to losen its grip on my actions. I realise I am still present in this and have no idea where it leads but what else can i do?
When the self is not there; you don't exist; you are dead. That is the only place where choiceless awareness can possibly take place. As long as you are alive, you, the "I" will be there. JK is advocating that we see things with fresh eyes, like seeing something new everytime, without our prejudices, etc. Is that possible?
@martynblackburn1977 I don't think it is possible to instantly see your whole conditioning and drop it. Over time, if I watch my responses to everyday challanges I notice that they don't seem to take a hold and dictate my actions as much. Perhaps this way, my conditioning gradually loses its grip? This implies a deliberate practise over time which K rejected but I don't see any other possibility. The puzzling thing for me is that he also told us to "do it and see what takes place".
@theadarla Your conditioning is YOU. You can't lose it. You think by watching your responses that somehow you will lose yourself? No! Because there is always the one who watches and that is YOU. To lose that, to drop that conditioning implies a physical death, not a pyschological one.
quite fuckin arguing on what you think is right, either listen to what he is saying and respect this or figure out for yourself why you dont like this and move the hell on.
we are not all one.... it is they same deception from the beginning, in the Garden in Eden. That is when this deception began, that we are gods, we are all one, we can make peace in the world and decide the future. It is the biggest deception there is because there will never be peace here that is real and lasting with God and His Son Jesus Christ.
we are one silly! ... an entiy only exists in relationship with the other just like an atom- and if you break this deep enough you would understand that everything is energy and so we are all made of atoms therefore we only exist in relationship with each others - that make us one.. point made
how do you know that god is the creator? did he tell you that, or did you read it in a book? or is it a feeling you have? or do you think that because you were told to?
like he did with joseph smith? or are you a new orleans fan? can you honestly say that you know for a fact that there is a god? or are you trying to convince yourself on the basis of a personal experience you had? i think it would be completely honest to say that nobody knows of the existence of a god, despite all religious teachings. in the end, it is what we are conditioned to believe. if you relate that conditioning to something you interpret to be a religious experience...what then?
No, I'm obviously not the one who needs convincing. I know with out one doubt there is a God. And I believe you know in your soul but you're nature does not want to comply. That is the struggle of Fallen Man. God is Holy and we are not but that doesn't make Him any less real just because you don't want to acknowledge Him. He is very real and it is very obvious. He isn't going to force you to Love Him or accept Him.
God is set apart from us. We can not enter His presence as we are in our fallen state. He is perfect. We are full of sin. Since we can not enter His presence as we are, there needs to be a bridge,or intercessor, to Him. That is who Jesus Christ is. "No one comes to the Father (God) except through Me(Christ)" John 14:6. There is only one way to God because He is Holy. That is through His Son Jesus Christ
you don't know that. someone told you. you learned it from a book. you chose to believe it. it isn't something you have perceived directly with a mind completely clear of thought. you are looking at life through the veil of information that impedes the mind from clear perception. i don't mean to be persistent, but you haven't given me the true meaning of holy.
The knowledge of Gods existence is in our very soul and being. the evidence is all around you. If you cant see it, that is because you CHOOSE to be blind. I know God and He is VERY real and very aware of you, me and everyone. He has chosen to let you live this long for a reason. Think about why that is. You know He is real. You wouldnt be talking about Him right now if you werent aware of Him.
i see the beauty in life. i see the confusion thought and belief have brought into the world, also. i see the divisions in human kind due to the variety of beliefs we choose to hold onto. i see the beauty, the peace in the understanding of thought and its role in leading people to label the beauty of nature according to something they learned in the education they received. i don't know he is real, if he is a he or if he had a son because i don't believe in anything but how the mind works.
"God" is apart from us? Yet, we are all made in "God's" Likeness. Yet we're separate from "Him".
That's like saying two identical twins have absolutely nothing connecting them. Or that a child was made in their parents' image, yet they've no connection to each other. They are separate.
It's just an opinion. Please don't take it personally. -:o)
Nodoubt - but if there's a creator God that would implied division between the creator and the creation - therefore conflict is arise and unconditional love is never reach-
Besides creation implies the ending or completition of the creation and WE ARE STILL EVOLVING therefore where's creation in place??
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
DUH, That is why Jesus Christ came. Do you understand or at least read the comments I left below. He is the reconciler to God through His death on the cross for our sins. He paid the price for us. That is what we deserved. Through Christ we can now have access to God. It was the Fall of Man(Adam) that separated us from God and it is through Jesus Christ that we can now have a relationship with God again.
@nodoubt257 Someone who believes that a guy fathered himself in order
to send himself to earth in order to kill himself in order to appease himself for the very sins to which he himself convicted mankind as retribution for having fallen for a trick effected through the agency of a TALKING SNAKE doesn't get to call other people's beliefs "ridiculous". I'm sorry, you don't get to laugh at Buddhists, Mormons, Scientologists, Atheists, or anyone else anymore.
@bedtechs you don't see any criticisms of all the false gods either. Everything belief and any god is accepted except Jesus Christ. Why don't you think on that for awhile. Oh, because you are so full of "wisdom" and dont need to think beyond yourself. The wisdom of Man is foolishness to God....and rightly so. Look at your foolish comment. You are "Wise in your own eyes" Yet dumb as a rock.
Don't fear wisdom and science. It won't hurt you to learn. "The wisdom of man" was bad for the Kings. That's why that line is in the bible. I think you missed the point that your religion is just as, if not more "ridiculous" than any others. Why don't you believe in Zeus, Thor, or Apollo? Because you wasn't born in a time and place where that was the mainstream. It's very christian of you to resort to insults when you have no leg to stand on. Enjoy being a sheep.
@nodoubt257 When was the last time people were treated extremely cruel or KILLED because of worshiping Zeus, Attis, etc... The BIBLE contains more verse where "GOD HIMSELF" commands death, of children, and innocents alike. MORE verses COMMANDING you to kill, destroy, even sexual abuse, and the list just keeps going on. Mathew 16:24-27 Deuteronomy 13:7-11 Jeremiah 48:10 Isaiah 13:15-18 Romans 1:24-32 Leviticus 24:10-16 Deuteronomy 22:20-21 2 Chronicles 15:12-13 JESUS did not NULLIFY LAWS.
@Fastlan3 You know nothing about God or His Word. there is no persecution for worshiping a false god. persecution comes from worshiping Jesus Christ. Besides, You are making accusations against The Living God and Creator like He is accountable to you. He created everything and can destroy all of it, if He so chooses. Who are you to bring accusations against Him? You are a created being. He answers to no one. Everything He does or chooses is just and right.
And yes, according to the laws of the BIBLE, people who worship false GODS are to be stoned to death and you also should go destroy their home town, and KILL EVERYONE, and BURN EVERYTHING. (Deuteronomy 13:13-19)
Since there are no GODS of any sort, the ones who claim to follow a God, and do such harmful things, will be held accountable. You can have your illusion of heaven. I will take care of life and the Earth we reside on.
You describe God, as what most consider EVIL...hmmmmmm
@Fastlan3 you are deeply lost. for one and as for your comment "You describe God as what most consider evil"?????? There is no sense in that comment whatsoever. YOU have a HATRED of God and I need to do nothing about it. You will take care of yourself.
I simply stated believing god as something above judgment or criticism as well as IT (Jehovah) is portrayed in the BIBLE, is frightening. If this is found to be real, there would certainly be nothing praise worthy about it.
You seem to not understand mutual concern, and faith+religion with such conviction is dangerous.
By what statement are you referring to which I am conveying any conviction of hate.
@bedtechs This is the best reply I ever read on You Tube-It couldn't be said better- I was hysterical my children love it & my wife could not stop giggling - :))))))
Please, everyone, let us forget all our prejudices, anger, hatred, and envy. Please, let us join in harmony to end the suffering of life on this planet! We all know the world is in a bad state and fighting has gotten us nowhere. It's time to open our closed fists and start working together for peace. Thanks for posting, I wish you and everyone who reads this only the best.
Hello friends, I am a Falun Dafa practitioner. Falun Dafa (or Falun Gong) is a cultivation system in the Buddha School based on the principles of the Universe: Truth, Compassion, Forbearance. It helped millions of people to regain health, peace of mind and obtain spiritual fulfillment. Since 1999 this peaceful practice is being brutally persecuted by the CCP in Mainland China. More than 3000 Falun Gong practitioners have died at the hands of CCP in the past 10 years.
It seems as though comments should be disabled for EVERY Krishnamurti video on youtube. I have yet to see something posted, that spoke truth, that spoke from actuality. My message right here included.....too much ego that creates a want to respond, to convince. Please disable comments.
This man is awesome. People create Gods to run to when in trouble = fail. Not realizing yourself, not thinking for yourself = fail. Being responsible for your own thoughts and controlling it objectively = win.
wth are u talking about medo3218891. he is right about god too. what are u another delusional fool who thinks god is real? hahahaha u are delusional and will always be that way.
Well, except the God thing .. he's right about every thing else.
We are all connected to each other. some lost the connection and acting like they don't have one (Racism, War, Hatred ...etc) we should help them with that journey inside themselves.
and then comes our Responsibility towards the world.
You're not responsible only of your limit self but you're responsible of the whole human being. every choice you make, give the human being an image of what they should should be.
ppl are ignorant to say this man was a fraud or that he was trying to force his knowledge on us..
THE MAN IN ALL HIS SPEECHES IS SAYING TO WAKE UP!!! TO THINK FOR YOURSELF YOU CAN BELIEVE WHAT U WANT... BUT IT MUST BE WHAT U WANT TO BELIEVE NOT WAT U ARE TOLD AND CONSTRUCTED TO BELIEVE..
WE ARE ON THIS EARTH TO CARE N NATURE IT AS WELL AS EACH OTHER.. BUT WE FAIL TO DO SO ON SO MANY LEVELS...
Well spoken YoungMind20,, I Love this man Murti and the many truth seekers ( Lennon, Harrison, Dylan, M.L.King, Ram Dass, Tim Leary, So many wise souls that have lived and died to WAKE US UP with love and wisdom and we always kill these enlightened ones when they speak out against the corrupt powers that destroy and conquer. and rape this whole planet..Such foolishness in man's fake ego games of destruction... Watch Bill Hicks and George Carlin on religion and other topics on Youtube
@YoungMind20 WHAT ABOUT THE CHRISTIANS OR THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!! OUR GOVERNMENT!! LOL. WAKE UP. DON'T INSULT MY TEACHER. HAVE YOU STUDIED THE LIFE OF JK? HAVE YOU READ HIS QUOTES OR BOOKS? HE IS THE WORLD TEACHER AND YOUR TEACHER. IF, YOU ONLY LISTEN TO HIM. YOU WILLL UNDERSTAND HIS WORDS, DON'T JUDGE HIM OF HIS RACE OR HE'S OUTTER A APPEARANCE. HE IS JUST A MESSAGER. AND YOU KNOW WHAT IGNORANCE PEOPLE WHO TO PEOPLE WHOM SPEAK THE TRUTH. MARTIN LUTHER, JOHN F. KENEDDY, GANDHI, MALCOM X LINCOLN.
@YoungMind20 yeh and he always said 'the speaker is not your authority' -he also admits his words are illusions, but ONLY IF YOU ACCEPT THEM.. what an incredible mind.
YOU don't understand LIFE. YOU do NOT have to SUFFER to understand life, nor do you DESERVE to suffer. We were born innocent, whether you believe it or not.
Your thinking is from your religious indoctrination.
Darkness is subjective......to me it is when people blindly follow something they believe is good b/c it offers false promises, and yet it is the very thing that is used to exploit them. To me, that's darkness.
I don't see the terrible agonizing that K and Buddha did. Maybe it is more widespread in the east. But I'll tell you one thing, I don't need any man to try and drill into me the way K does what his thoughts are.
There's no choice involved in awareness becase what we are aware of is there all the time whether we like it or not, see it or not or aware of it or not.
@Bruce88keys That's not what he meant. Choiceless awareness pertains to the thinking process not to value systems. To be choicelessly aware means that the thinker does not step outside himself and says, "I am aware". One has to be aware, but without choice. It isn't a moral philosophy.
@Bruce88keys Have you read "Freedom from the Known"? Read it, and you will see that Choiceless Awareness implies looking without the self. You can't be without the self, it is there all the time. I think JK was disinegnious with this. When you look with selflessness, you are not there anymore, and you don't come back either, your simply dead.
@martynblackburn1977 Is this a fact for you? On the one hand you say you can't be without the self but then go on to describe selflessness. I don't mean to offend but are you playing with this because it brings comfort? I have considered for many years what K meant by choiceless awareness. There has to be an awareness of your conditioned responses. But these reveal themselves over time, as you face different challenges. Once their falseness is seen, they dissolve. You describe the end state.
@theadarla You can't be without self. That, in effect, is what I wrote. What I didn't write was that I believed in selflessness., it was a figure of speech. It brings no comfort for me. How about you? The end state is death and in death you don't exist, the self is no more. You can't be aware of that, no matter how hard you try.
@theadarla This idea that seeing things can dissolve things is probably a lot of nonsense. You can't see without the one seeing, that is, the self who sees. So choiceless awareness implies that there is no seeing and hence no self who sees, because as soon as you say "I see", there is the self. So where can choiceless awareness take place? It cannot take place. Ever.
I had to give you two thumbs up for that comment.
EXCELLENT:) I'm glad to know there are people in the world who are actually utilize the ability to experience "AWARENESS" of others and their plight, and recognize that it is affecting us all.
awareness and (personal) integrity, 3 factors that are a must to become a really responsible individual, at least for the little things you can do as a single human being (?)
The Dalai Lama said something like: "Stop meditating, begin to be aware...",
What dear Krishnamurti is enlightening, is the essence of Life - it is not to be discussed or argued about since that includes thoughts - it is just be realized in stillness of mind - being aware and still in mind. You cannot concentrate on finding this stillness - it comes when it does when you keep you cultivate your "garden" by being aware about being aware...
This realization that we are all one (alone) can only take place in Unitary Perception, what Jiddu Krishnamurti called meditation. It cannot take place through thought.
I am so sick of this play on words. What is called "meditation" or what is called "thought" both emanate from the same source: our physical brains. Trying living without one! In the end, I do not care if we are "one" or "separate", so long as we nice to one another. Yes, simply being nice goes a long way. Stop with all this philosophical nonsense. I find myself much nicer than most so called "religious" or "spiritual" people I meet. They can "mediate" all they want!
your words sick show this - once you empty your mind you can leave space for something to enter - if you are constantly thinking you are constantly sustaining your current world with your internal dialogue so you will always repeat the same actions and make the same decisions in life forever - when you meditate/stop thinking your energy resonates to a different frequency, your chakras open -kundalini awakens and you become one with conciousness-and realization of immortality and eternity occurs
I hope that when I get the age he's at in this video that I can just sit on a bench and spout gibberish and have naive young foreigners oooh and ahhh at my senseless words.
He is speaking from a place which is Truth but is at the same time not very easy to be de-coded with the rational mind. It is not the by product of the limitations of logic. It is from the very source of one's Being, the nothingness of creation.
This is why alot of the time guru's speak, and appear to be talking absolute nonsense. Because some of them do not understand that you have been conditioning into the logical methods of understanding, which is one kind of language, and they are speaking in a different kind of language which is less limited. Another reason is because they may at the level of their experience be one with Truth, enlightened, but at the level of expression they are not very good orators or speakers.
In the case where one is a realized being, but is not a very good communicator, if the observer is not going to derive much understanding from the words, there is another option - and unfortunately, the one which is rarely taken, because one is not conditioned to understand things in this way.
You can learn from the simple presence of the Being, watching him, the subtleties, the way his consciousness is expressed. The smallest percentage of communication is words. Look beyond words.
Exactly. Not many have developed the intuitive side of their being; they endure much suffering and confusion in their lives. You must cultivate your ability to understand one not by his words, but by taking in the totality of his being. It is much easier than it sounds. Believe me.
Yes sir I understand that, the misery, suffering, despair and uncertainty are common for all human beings and I think everyone realize that but, can you just tell us the way to get out of it?
Except just perceiving/realizing/understanding the fact.
When he speaks of realization of the things he is speaking of, he does not mean it in an intellectual sense. To realize humanity and in fact the whole existence as One is not an intellectual phenomenon. It is to be perceived through direct experience at the level of consciousness, beyond the surface of the conscious mind, where the perception of the subject and object, observer and observed unite. This results in a transformation of consciousness and perception, it becomes one's Being.
It is a science of evolution of consciosuness, through application of certain kinds of training and methods. So it is not philosophical nor is it intellectual. Krishnamurti is speaking of realization in a non-intellectual sense, in an intuitive sense. It happens when one is absolutely natural and relaxed. Now if you ask "how?", you are simply asking for a strategy in order to attain that which is natural, which is impossible. Nature functions not by way of doing, but through non-doing.
Mmm... i am responsible yes but it is upto the moment and place, only then and there can i show my understanding and be helpfull... he's right on, we're all the one life...
That's kind of interesting...but I think there are certain levels of change that can at least awaken those who are prepared. In that sense perhaps its not true change, but rather just catalytic action
How do you escape being trapped in thought, or in the ego, if the only tool I am aware of is my mind? I've been learning about consciousness and feeling the stillness around me, but many times I feel like I am trying to be conscious rather than actually being conscious. Do you have any advice on this? Because I am trying to change...but of course in the form of self-development to escape suffering. Its just that I often am not sure of the process, or I feel I don't know enough...
I've talked about this in a forum which I have renounced, I'm not sure does it still exist. But here is the formula :
The only change there is, is when you stop seeking change. Because you are constantly wanting/seeking to change yourself, that makes it impossible.
Once you "understood" there is nothing to understand, everything falls into place. When that happens everything you value will be gone, and you let realization take you whereever it takes you.
well, I believe you but you must agree that very few actually live IT, the way you mean. I agree with everything you said in here, solid. In my 'reality' if I may call it that, the people around me are very much slaves under the thought structure, I know very few who are not "trapped". Take it our leave it this is my situation here. Thanks for the respons good input. I was just barking dude;)
Question the seeker, question the whole search? What is real? Is there such a thing as a SEEKER to begin with? Who is this 'YOU'?Find out for yourself! If you are lucky enough to enter it, to have it dawned upon you, well, then there will be no more questioning will there? I cannot help you. What could anyone possibly teach about an illusion anyways.
damn, can't you just be simple and stay in one post?
One does not have to die, nor one have to question the seeker. One is in perfect harmony, only when one understand there nothing to understand. This is why followers exist because they want to understand but it is blinded by the wanting to gain something/ power or saying my teacher is the best come join me, that is when understanding and freedom stops and destruction of humanity and oneself begins.
oops, I am sorry if I have upset you?, are you reffering to me? well, I dont have any internet at home and I have little online time, I just express myself in the moment what comes up. Sometimes I surf and have so much fun putting in 'my' thoughts about stuff I forget that maybe there is some guidelines to all these places like youtube etc of how to do stuff here I am just exploring it is astonishing to me I often discover something new to do or say, I am not on the computer everyday so I dunno.
What about the physiological part of IT. For many there has been a physiological CALAMITY. They have died and come back? I see that this is not neccessary but something is definately happening HERE (pointing at this appearance) My vision has TOTALLY changed physically speaking. There seems to be a huge change going on in this body and there seems to be more coming, a SuperSensitivety to the Moon or Pacha Mama like never before. There is no need to say more about that here, just playing my part;)
this man is talking about human beeings and their very own responsibility for their very own actions, i guess: karma, the physics of cause and effect. destroy the planet and you destroyed you own future, your own children.

...that is orderly where thought operates only in the right place, i don't know.

Is that possible?
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@martynblackburn1977 I suspect thought evolved as a tool to assist the brain to aquire physical security. Somehow this has then moved into the psychological field where thought continues to concentrate on security. I think this is a hard wired program that thought can not stop doing. But i also think that thought can look at its own behaviour logically and become fine tuned or sensitive to when its motivations are selfish. Thereby keeping itself in check. Whether this leads ultimately to a brain
theadarla 1 year ago
@theadarla

In theory it may sound plausible, but in practice that is quite something else.
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@martynblackburn1977 Here again, its for you to "to do it" not wether it's a theory on in theory. It certainly isn't something I can watch in myself from a distance psychologically. The problem is words, and especially K's charismatic use.
Bruce88keys 1 year ago
@Bruce88keys I don't understand.
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@martynblackburn1977 I know
Bruce88keys 1 year ago
Is it possible that by the phrase "choiceless awareness" K actually meant to be deliberately aware of your thoughts/feelings but not to do anything about them? If not, then how does a person move from self centered activity to selfless activity? It's surely only possible if you make a deliberate decision to do something about it.
theadarla 1 year ago
@theadarla No. It is an involuntary awareness; it is supposed to be the space between awareness where there is no self, where the self is looking but not judging or not being aware that it is looking. It is impossible. You can't look without the one who looks, because as soon as you see something a response is triggered in the memory and identification takes place.
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@martynblackburn1977 I understand what you are saying and I agree that it is impossible to look without the "me". So what do I do now? K said do nothing, just watch and see what takes place. But who is the watcher? We seem to come to a dead end every time unless you interpret his words differently. I think he meant that we should deliberately watch as i have previously suggested. Otherwise it is impossible.
theadarla 1 year ago
@theadarla Yes. He did say "do nothing". In that he meant that in an instant all your pyschological baggage should drop, melt away, come to an end, etc, just by watching. Is that really possible? For that to happen something radical and fundamental must take place, the self is disolved. Can that happen? Who has done that? Has JK done that?
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@theadarla look without the psychological me-that's all that's being said-and btw it doesn't matter if K is right or wrong- you are still in the same mess looking for an answer before you would do anything. Its like asking "will this water put that fire out ? I don't know, so I'll watch the house burn.
Bruce88keys 1 year ago
This suggests that we make a concious effort to watch? Maybe K was a one off and for him it was all obvious. Perhaps he couldn't really understand why nobody else managed to change. After 20 years of thinking about what he said but not changing, I am now looking at it from a purely practical point of view. I am making a deliberate effort to watch thought/response in order to losen its grip on my actions. I realise I am still present in this and have no idea where it leads but what else can i do?
theadarla 1 year ago
When the self is not there; you don't exist; you are dead. That is the only place where choiceless awareness can possibly take place. As long as you are alive, you, the "I" will be there. JK is advocating that we see things with fresh eyes, like seeing something new everytime, without our prejudices, etc. Is that possible?
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@martynblackburn1977 I don't think it is possible to instantly see your whole conditioning and drop it. Over time, if I watch my responses to everyday challanges I notice that they don't seem to take a hold and dictate my actions as much. Perhaps this way, my conditioning gradually loses its grip? This implies a deliberate practise over time which K rejected but I don't see any other possibility. The puzzling thing for me is that he also told us to "do it and see what takes place".
theadarla 1 year ago
@theadarla Your conditioning is YOU. You can't lose it. You think by watching your responses that somehow you will lose yourself? No! Because there is always the one who watches and that is YOU. To lose that, to drop that conditioning implies a physical death, not a pyschological one.

nodoubt257 1 year ago
like he did with joseph smith? or are you a new orleans fan? can you honestly say that you know for a fact that there is a god? or are you trying to convince yourself on the basis of a personal experience you had? i think it would be completely honest to say that nobody knows of the existence of a god, despite all religious teachings. in the end, it is what we are conditioned to believe. if you relate that conditioning to something you interpret to be a religious experience...what then?
shickboy 1 year ago
No, I'm obviously not the one who needs convincing. I know with out one doubt there is a God. And I believe you know in your soul but you're nature does not want to comply. That is the struggle of Fallen Man. God is Holy and we are not but that doesn't make Him any less real just because you don't want to acknowledge Him. He is very real and it is very obvious. He isn't going to force you to Love Him or accept Him.
nodoubt257 1 year ago
tell me then, what is holy? what is the meaning of the word?
shickboy 1 year ago
God is set apart from us. We can not enter His presence as we are in our fallen state. He is perfect. We are full of sin. Since we can not enter His presence as we are, there needs to be a bridge,or intercessor, to Him. That is who Jesus Christ is. "No one comes to the Father (God) except through Me(Christ)" John 14:6. There is only one way to God because He is Holy. That is through His Son Jesus Christ
nodoubt257 1 year ago
you don't know that. someone told you. you learned it from a book. you chose to believe it. it isn't something you have perceived directly with a mind completely clear of thought. you are looking at life through the veil of information that impedes the mind from clear perception. i don't mean to be persistent, but you haven't given me the true meaning of holy.
shickboy 1 year ago

DUH, That is why Jesus Christ came. Do you understand or at least read the comments I left below. He is the reconciler to God through His death on the cross for our sins. He paid the price for us. Besides, You are making accusations against The Living God and Creator like He is accountable to you. He created everything and can destroy all of it, if He so chooses. Who are you to bring accusations against Him? You are a created being. He answers to no one. Everything He does or chooses is just and right.

No, it seems you are attempting to answer for "HIM" or "HER" what ever conceptual idea you have towards gender, thus making accusations.

You are correct though, that GOD is not accountable, because "IT" simply doesn't exist.
If God can not be held accountable, God is meaningless.

Choiceless awareness? There is no such thing. You are aware with choice all the time.
martynblackburn1977 2 years ago
There's no choice involved in awareness becase what we are aware of is there all the time whether we like it or not, see it or not or aware of it or not.
coaltrap 2 years ago
You can choose not to be aware by killing yourself. Therefore, you do have a choice. As long as you are aware, you've made that choice to be so.
martynblackburn1977 2 years ago
@martynblackburn1977 no, it means to not limit your self to your own wants and prejudices, to be open, not to say I have a choice etc..
Bruce88keys 1 year ago
@Bruce88keys That's not what he meant. Choiceless awareness pertains to the thinking process not to value systems. To be choicelessly aware means that the thinker does not step outside himself and says, "I am aware". One has to be aware, but without choice. It isn't a moral philosophy.
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@martynblackburn1977 Are you nutz or just plain stupid?
Bruce88keys 1 year ago
@Bruce88keys Have you read "Freedom from the Known"? Read it, and you will see that Choiceless Awareness implies looking without the self. You can't be without the self, it is there all the time. I think JK was disinegnious with this. When you look with selflessness, you are not there anymore, and you don't come back either, your simply dead.
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@martynblackburn1977 Is this a fact for you? On the one hand you say you can't be without the self but then go on to describe selflessness. I don't mean to offend but are you playing with this because it brings comfort? I have considered for many years what K meant by choiceless awareness. There has to be an awareness of your conditioned responses. But these reveal themselves over time, as you face different challenges. Once their falseness is seen, they dissolve. You describe the end state.
theadarla 1 year ago
@theadarla You can't be without self. That, in effect, is what I wrote. What I didn't write was that I believed in selflessness., it was a figure of speech. It brings no comfort for me. How about you? The end state is death and in death you don't exist, the self is no more. You can't be aware of that, no matter how hard you try.
martynblackburn1977 1 year ago
@theadarla This idea that seeing things can dissolve things is probably a lot of nonsense. You can't see without the one seeing, that is, the self who sees. So choiceless awareness implies that there is no seeing and hence no self who sees, because as soon as you say "I see", there is the self. So where can choiceless awareness take place? It cannot take place. Ever.

What dear Krishnamurti is enlightening, is the essence of Life - it is not to be discussed or argued about since that includes thoughts - it is just be realized in stillness of mind - being aware and still in mind. You cannot concentrate on finding this stillness - it comes when it does when you keep you cultivate your "garden" by being aware about being aware...

your words sick show this - once you empty your mind you can leave space for something to enter - if you are constantly thinking you are constantly sustaining your current world with your internal dialogue so you will always repeat the same actions and make the same decisions in life forever - when you meditate/stop thinking your energy resonates to a different frequency, your chakras open -kundalini awakens and you become one with conciousness-and realization of immortality and eternity occurs

He is speaking from a place which is Truth but is at the same time not very easy to be de-coded with the rational mind. It is not the by product of the limitations of logic. It is from the very source of one's Being, the nothingness of creation.
Amirmourad 3 years ago 3

Except just perceiving/realizing/understanding the fact.
utoove 3 years ago

Why does no one talk like this anymore? Have we all just lost hope in man's potential for good?

the world is not suffering, human beings are.
And when one is constantly wanting to change human beings, he is the one who is suffering
dan020350 4 years ago
That's kind of interesting...but I think there are certain levels of change that can at least awaken those who are prepared. In that sense perhaps its not true change, but rather just catalytic action
DoctorFist 4 years ago
there is nothing to be prepared for...
BuddhaAmnesia 4 years ago
there is no levels of change, only complete change, other than that it is an illusion
dan020350 4 years ago
The formula is correct, but then again what could you teach about an illusion? It is silly to kid yourself and others, There is nothing to change.
BuddhaAmnesia 4 years ago
there is no illusion for me, the only illusion there is when one says he knows.
dan020350 4 years ago

taoist77 3 years ago
Now we undestand, just stop and let the world suffer, which is natural.
dan020350 3 years ago
but we are no longer functioning just as human beings... we are trapped in thought.
BuddhaAmnesia 4 years ago
I 'm not trap in thought, but you are trap into that idea that human beings are trap in thought
dan020350 4 years ago
How do you escape being trapped in thought, or in the ego, if the only tool I am aware of is my mind? I've been learning about consciousness and feeling the stillness around me, but many times I feel like I am trying to be conscious rather than actually being conscious. Do you have any advice on this? Because I am trying to change...but of course in the form of self-development to escape suffering. Its just that I often am not sure of the process, or I feel I don't know enough...
DoctorFist 4 years ago
I've talked about this in a forum which I have renounced, I'm not sure does it still exist. But here is the formula :
The only change there is, is when you stop seeking change. Because you are constantly wanting/seeking to change yourself, that makes it impossible.
Once you "understood" there is nothing to understand, everything falls into place. When that happens everything you value will be gone, and you let realization take you whereever it takes you.
dan020350 4 years ago
Could you say that one has to 'Die'... ?
BuddhaAmnesia 4 years ago
well, I believe you but you must agree that very few actually live IT, the way you mean.

BuddhaAmnesia 4 years ago
damn, can't you just be simple and stay in one post?
One does not have to die, nor one have to question the seeker. One is in perfect harmony, only when one understand there nothing to understand. This is why followers exist because they want to understand but it is blinded by the wanting to gain something/ power or saying my teacher is the best come join me, that is when understanding and freedom stops and destruction of humanity and oneself begins.

I hope I can meet you one day :). Your posts on I love opinions are fascinating

good very good. you are beginning.
dan020350 4 years ago
oops, I am sorry if I have upset you?, are you reffering to me? well, I dont have any internet at home and I have little online time, I just express myself in the moment what comes up.

BuddhaAmnesia 4 years ago
this man is talking about human beeings and their very own responsibility for their very own actions, i guess: karma, the physics of cause and effect. destroy the planet and you destroyed you own future, your own children.
